🌙 Auglish Stone Circle Complex 🪨🪨🪨🍀
🌟Captions Available. Bronze age stone circles and alignments in the foothills of The Sperrins. A fascinating and sadly neglected prehistoric ritual site with cosmic alignments .
Small stones were used to make the circles similar to the Beaghmore complex not far to the south. Both of these sites were only discovered from under the blanket bog in the 20th century . It is very possible more sites still remain undiscovered.
Join me for some quiet time exploring the stones and illustrating the history
and the connection to the 18.6 year lunar cycle.

It was fun hearing the bullroarer there , it has an Otherworldly sound . Pretty easy to make , I watched a couple of videos and gave it a go. No giant at the Giants Causeway..... 😕 Sadly, it's True..... 😢 I found the centre interesting enough, but think it's Totally wrong that the parking is stitched up by the National Trust when access to the stones is FREE For All! Having had my rant - this was a lovely film CC. You captured the true feel and essence of the place. The coastline is magnificent and the cliff walk was exhilarating. And as ever, the "eyes in the skies" were guiding you.... Your music choice was sublime and I enjoyed seeing this other-worldly location from all the different angles. Kudos on another great film. 👍😁 PS. Who or What was that closing the door in the stones...... ? 😮

It's the same with the Cliffs of Moher. Come from the sides, it's free, the area is naturally free and open, but if you take the bus you have to go through the museum or whatever it is and pay a fee.

Hello Crystal 🤗 I have mixed feelings , I totally see why foreign tourists are happy enough to pay for full experience, after all it's likely a one of bucket list visit. And all the folk I saw seemed to be enjoying themselves. On the other hand, I can understand the frustration of locals not being able to park anywhere near the public right of way that is the coastal path , without paying the full National Trust Visitor Experience rate. Anyway, I am rambling , I hope you are keeping well. Thanks for stopping by...🌻🍀

The visitor centre is a ripoff...are they still doing the Creation story in there? I walked both directions to the causeway...first time from Dunseverick castle, then in May from Portballintrae...stunningly picturesque walks on both routes, wildflowers everywhere. Portcoon is so peaceful and beautiful, sat there for ages watching the tide lapping onto the rocks...no-one around, perfect. I love the causeway, it's a special place. Great video!!

Fabulous! I love your animation, and the soundtrack is amazing. Great story - the Irish prevailed and drove out the Vikings. Well done, my friend 👍. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend 😀.

See that stone building you where sitting in it's a fridge where they store the food

Hello Barry , Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍 I am pretty sure the stone huts at the monastic site are Beehive monks cells , similar to the ones on Skellig Michael and other places. Food would most likely have been stored in a souterrain , a stone lined under ground passage or chamber . This way no light gets in and it stays at a constant cool temperature. 🍀

I really enjoy where you take us since it is so different to my part of the world. The history is really fascinating to me and I would love to visit one day. They did an amazing job at the reconstruction and nice to see the man took over and cleaned the site up. My kind of place. Thanks for this!

Hi Wade ,Thanks for taking the time to stop by, Much appreciated . 👍 Funny , I enjoy your content for the same kinda reason....not many big open spaces here . And your historic forgotten buildings etc reflect the variety of early settlers that made a new life for themselves . Hope you and yours are all good. Catch you later. ✌️🍀

Hi Curious. This was a fascinating visit to the history park. The monastic settlement was impressive, the tower and monk's cell particularly. Sorry the crannog was gone....I have a 'thing' for crannogs. The replica on Loch Tay, Scotland, burned 3 years ago, but a new, larger museum is now across the Loch. Hope to see it someday. The court tomb didn't feel 'quite right' as you said, but couldn't help but get a wee shiver when you went inside. Good thing you could warm yourself by the fire. Enjoyed this experience very much. Take care and Thank you. S 🕯🌑🕯

Hello Susan, nice to hear from you as always . 🤗 I also have a thing for crannogs , my dream home would be a modern version , on a small private lough full of Brown Trout..... Oh yes I was so gutted when the Loch Tay crannog burned , I remembered seeing it on an episode of Time Team years ago. I guess the idea of having an open fire inside a wooden structure with straw on the floor , was always going to be risky . The ancestors no doubt had similar accidents from time to time. I had a look at the new facility you mentioned, it`s is really looking good now , And I believe the construction of the first of three new crannogs started in May . I would love to spend some time in Alba , I used to be over 2 or 3 times a year , but not since covid . It would be nice to get over in the spring , if I do hopefully I`ll get to Loch Tay. Stay safe my friend.🕯️🌒🕯️ 🌻

I climbed up to the cairn on Mullaghcarn in March and intended to visit this place afterwards as it's just across the road from the forest carpark but I spent so much time on the mountain it was very late when I got back to the car. Looks really good for a wander around...is there an entrance charge? Nice to see you met some of the local wildlife too!

    • @TheCuriousCelt

Hello David , Aye there is a £3 charge ,payable at reception . I reckon it`s worth it , plus you do get a map. The Red Deer are in a pen and pretty tame. I think if the fawn hadn`t been there, one of the does at least may have came right up to the fence. After the park I took the scenic drive around Gortin Forest and stopped for a picnic at the start of the summit trail . I saw a couple of wild Sika about 20M away which was nice . Also saw my first ever Red Squirrels . I don`t think I would make the summit from the main carpark, but I wouldn`t mind doing the last section sometime. Did you get any drone shots of the big girl ?

@@TheCuriousCelt it was so cold up there with a good dusting of snow on the summit and the wind was fierce and biting...I could barely keep my hands out of my pockets longer than 5 seconds, I just got a few pics plus some video clips and left inside 5 minutes...couldn't wait to get back to the car! might see if there's enough footage for a very short video.
