Climb The Reek
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 ส.ค. 2023
My name is David Doyle. The other lads are Tulio de Jesus, Bernard Burke, Frank McMahon. We are very fortunate to have been trained under the expert guidance of Matt McConway who has nearly 30 years experience working on mountain paths. We have been working together on the path on Croagh Patrick since December 2020. All year round, in all weathers using only hand tools and using only materials we find on the mountain. No mortar etc. Volunteers from Mountaineering Ireland join us weekly to help out.

Just Subscribed great work love the climb to the top
Ypuve just destroyed the natural beauty of the place..well done🙄
Respect from Belfast
I climbed the Reek for the first time in about 30 years with my daughter last week. Just wanted to say how amazing your work is. It’s made such a difference, especially on the steep final ascent. Well done & thanks. Gareth
Thank you very much
This is fantastic!! I’m going to give it a go when my friend and I come over in a few weeks from the states. I have no doubt she’ll make it as she’s quite a hiker but my heart wants to try so here I come. Thank you for this beautiful inspiration!
Such a great video - I just zipped back to 7 years ago when I climbed this. Toughest and most incredible day in my life. Will never forget it!
I am traveling from the US to climb 08/15/2024 for The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Great video, nice idea Dave.
Thank you!!
Great work 👍 do you mind if i try to ride it down on a bike?
No bicycles please 🙏
A terrible beauty about to be tamed by brave men And women who move a million tons of stone by their bare Hands in all weathers what a magnificent undertaking Surely God will have blessed them and look after them total respect❤
Thank you very much! Very kind words
That's lovely Dave
Thank you for making this video It is truly an amazing holy place It’s not in my ability to make this journey now but I am working towards it God Bless you 🙏❤️
You are very welcome 🙏
Great video Dave.
Excellent work Dave!
Glad you enjoyed it
Best day of my life
Excellent Dave getting some first hand interactions with the public . Also get to practice some chat up lines with the ladies I hasten to add 😉.
Cheers Mark
Chatting with the climbers,, fair play dave
Nice one Brian, had to mix it up a bit. Looking forward to seeing you back up there
@@climbthereek thought we might see u up there today, next friday april 2nd , will be attempting 10 climbs in 24 hours for hand in hand childrens cancer charoty so hopefully all goes well
We will be watching 👀 later was wondering where you had been.So will be a real treat after a busy day. They take a lot of time suppose the videos and content 😌.So till next time take care.👀🍀🍀❤️🍀🍀🍀👣🧚🧚🧚🧚🧚
I hope you will like the different style of video Diane. Apologies for the poor qaulity sound in places, rookie mistake with new microphones. I'll nail it next time
Look 👀 forward to seeing you.👍👍👍👍
We haven’t seen you for a while hope all is well with you.Still a lot for us to see we just love the music as well.Understand if it takes a lot of work to make the videos.Take care see you soon hopefully 🙏
Lovely to hear from you Diane. Yes it’s been a super busy month and I haven’t had the time at the weekends to edit a video. But as luck would have it I have a special planned for this weekend!
Been a few years since I did the walk..but seeing your excellent video..with a track now..I want to goooooo ..now...!! The Cross of Christ..What a Saviour...😊
How long does it take to get to the top and how long to get back down?
About 3.5-4hrs round trip on average
Thanks I’m loving these videos and hope the weather turns out for us in November. If not, I’m sure there are a few lovely pubs in the area
Well done and so rapidly (on video, of course), that the damage will not extend. Alleluya !
Thank you!
Amazing work
Cheers!!
Dave you need more help. The Reef is a national monument and as such needs caring and looking after by full time staff. I can understand if we didn't have the money but we do. The more work you do the safer the mountain becomes. Cheers
Thank you for your comments. I have volunteers who come up each week to help me. They aren’t always in the videos :)
Great video and great work that was badly needed on the path. What is the purpose of the side walls? Is it to keep people on the path?
The path is held together under compression. The walls provide lateral compression on the sides of the path as well as act retaining walls to hold back tonnes of cobble. Thanks for your kind words
@climbthereek Ah I see. Thanks for the reply.
Good job dave
Cheers Brian ✌️
@@climbthereek attempting the reek 10 times in 24 hours on augest 2nd for hand in hand childrens cancer charity. Probably see you up there some day soon
Great job Dave..👍
Cheers Mick
Sorry if you answered this in the past: is the building on top of the mountain serviceable and maintained? If so, what is it used for these days?
It is a church that is used for special occasions and on the big pilgrimage day ‘Reek Sunday’ which is on July 28th 2024
@@climbthereek Thanks for that info, I wondered because from the drone's view I couldn't tell if the roof was still sound.
Well done on such great work in a truly spiritual part of this island. Given it’s so popular you’ll probably never be done fixing parts of the track. Keep it going.
Thank you!
St Patrick would be proud of you. Love that .Brilliant as always Dave .The work never ends .Still safe.
Cheers Ger
We are back from Northern Ireland great trip always want more.People are so friendly and welcoming. We will watch later to relax 🧘♀️.We came of the Ferry this time last Sunday. So it will be delightful to see you and the Mountain ⛰️ .Till next time.Peace with all what’s going on in the world 🌍.
Thanks as always Diane :)
Good work Dave 💪🏻
Cheers Mark
Maith sibh go léir!
Loved meeting one of the skilled tradesmen on the hike up a few weeks back. I have hiked all over the world (including the Reek in 2009) an never seen this level of competence and artistry in the rehab of this heavily used trail. Congratulations to all involved for a wonderful project. Thanks so much to all for your hard work and dedication.
Very kind words, thank you!
I'd need a helicopter 🚁 to bring me up. My knees wouldn't be able for that climb. My drone will capture what I can't see😢
Wow amazing work, climbed it today you all did a great job. Did you find anything interesting while carrying out the work?
Not really, at least the lads never told us if they found anything!
ahhh dave man, beautiful footage, as always! 💚 keep up the good work x
Thanks Padraig!
It's amazing how much back-breaking work was required to compensate for the thoughtless, selfish people who were in such a hurry that they had to take "shortcuts,'' highly discouraged on trails everywhere because they usually lead to more damage and erosion. Outstanding work as usual. We can only hope that people eventually respect the mountain and your hard work, and cut that out. Maybe you need volunteer "ambassadors'' watching out during especially busy periods to correct poor behavior.
Thanks very much for your kind words
Only special people can do this you need a big engine And a big generous heart Proof that the Irish people have survived centuries of war Hunger genocide emigration and survived is a tribute to all of them To be able to do this God bless these men and women may God lay his gentle hand on them
Thank you!! 🙏
Good man dave, still hard at it
Cheers Brian
More great work keeping it all together👍 From your time-lapse you get a sense of the volume of traffic that must go up and down the mountain day after day, creating that never ending need for maintenance.
You said it Gerry. Non stop this time of year and every weekend! Cheers 👋
"Fair play til yee"😊 Again cool to see the regeneration starting on areas of the mountain previously under pressure👍
Sound man, he’s very encouraging signs of growth returning
You are a great ambassador for the area and Ireland .Great work .Stay safe .Roll on the sunshine.
Cheers Ger! It’s nice to get a few hours of Sun ☀️
Love the tunes!!
Awesome footage Dave, weather looks amazing
Cheers Sonic!
I thought this music was a little like Massive Attack. The band is Telsonic again ;-)
