I feel like this would be the perfect music for the introduction to an RPG game, before its title screen - each section fits a scene perfectly! 0:00 - The main protagonist's home town. We're introduced to some of the cast, going about their lives. 0:32 - The adventure begins! Our cast set off to discover the truth behind something or other. (A legendary artefact? A mysterious place? etc., etc.) 0:47 - A view of some of the first few areas in the game, such as a rolling field, a forest, or a section of coastline. 0:54 - Shots of the protagonist and their allies exploring, or running from one place to another. 1:17 - A showcase of the battle system, with the protagonist fighting common enemies. 1:35 - The main antagonist appears! 1:42 - A shot of the party facing off against the main antagonist, then the screen fades to white. Cue the title screen!

I love love love the part starting at 0:55. That swap to the natural minor was very smooth. You're so focused on the music box from just before, and there are still some major chords that momentarily give back that first sound. The use of pedal tones across chords (in the highest string voice, especially) in conjunction with the EP's walks down the scale helps promote the idea of slow progression. Remnants of previous ideas stay present as each new one is introduced. It's a technique I really want to get better at. The part at 1:35 is more like a breakdown than another rise in intensity, but _only_ because of the orchestra hit's thin presence as a sample. It would work better if the orchestra hit's parts were doubled by the soundfont's equivalent patches. (Examined the orchestra hit sample; That's a low Eb on trombone and tuba, cello, and timpani. On strings, Eb in two octaves and a quieter G in between. There's also an Eb played on flute, doubling the highest Eb on violins.) Okay, so I've just tried what I suggested in FL, and found that it's limited, again, by the samples. Mario 64's instruments aren't very friendly towards traditional orchestral arrangement the way that Ocarina's instruments are. I'm not gonna cut all this out, though, because the analysis will probably still be useful later. It will be for me, anyway. Anyway, this is a really good composition, especially for wanting to emulate the Mario 64 sound. The A section's EP ideas are spot on, melodically. My favorite part is the B section. It's sooo good.
