I’m a travel lover who got hooked on TH-cam videos during the pandemic. Decided when I could travel again I wanted to share! Mexico is my favourite destination but I’ll try to share all my trips!

This is a Walking Tour of Planet Hollywood Cancun from our May 2024 vacation.
Quick note...when I mentioned the building numbers in the Adult Section...I was backwards!
We really enjoyed our stay overall! Lots of positives at this resort. The service was great (though I will say we noticed it slows down on weekends), the food was good to very good and we had no issues getting reservations using the app. Drinks were a bit hit or miss (really seemed to depend on the bartender) but mostly fine.
We didn't upgrade to Star Class and I'm happy we didn't....I don't think it would have been worth the cost (just my opinion….totally get others thinking it is worth it to them).
Only downsides we found….we expected more entertainment (being a Planet Hollywood) and it felt like the resort was trying to monetize a few too many things.
I'm not sure we would actively seek out a second visit (lots of places to see!) but I wouldn't rule it out either.
I just do these videos for fun and to hopefully help out other travellers. I’m definitely not a professional! I really do appreciate people watching!

What time of day was this? Just wondering why no one is around lol
@SirJer SUPER early in the morning. Maybe around 7 or 7:30? It's easier to do these when the resort is still mostly sleeping....otherwise people look at me like I'm crazy! Lol

Is your swim out area exclusive to you, or can anyone go in it?
@nicholask8657 the one we had was attached to the main pool so it wasn't very private. Others are slightly more private but you'd still share with neighbouring rooms.

It is crazy that the exact same hotel can be priced way differently in multiple places. We really aren't loyal to any particular airline, tour operator or website....just try to find the best price and book with them!

Are there hairdryer’s and clothes iron in the room ?
There was a hairdryer. And a steamer I believe...not an iron. I'm not 100% on that as I try not to iron ever (but especially not on vacation!) Lol

21:52 nice complete review. How was the buffet food? I have see a lot of comments calling it small and not that good
Thank you! We honestly only ate at the buffet for breakfast a few times. I didn't find it small but I'm not sure how dinner was.

I think the hotel was at about 80% capacity. It was definitely way busier on the weekend!

How much was diamond club upgrade
It was a while ago when I booked (so I don't remember exactly!) but I think about $300 more per person .

Thank you so much for posting this. We, coincidentally, booked that same room and are looking very forward to it. Watching this was very helpful. If there are any other tricks about the room, building or just that area of the resort please let me know. It's our first time.

Melanie was there wifi in the rooms? We leave tomorrow!
We could sometimes pick up weak wifi in the room (and in other areas of the resort) but it really only worked WELL in the lobby. Have an amazing time! I'm jealous!
Does this resort have a casino? If you are a guest of the Royalton riviera can you go to the adults area and viceversa ?
Yes, a small one. We aren't really casino fans so I can't say if it's any good!

Hello Melanie, I was wondering, since you upgraded for diamond club, did you get a butler assistant?
Yes, we did! Ours were very nice but...honestly...extremely disorganized. Other than the restaurant reservations we really didn't find great value in Diamond Club.

We have reservations and I appreciate your video. I can't really get a handle on the restaurant dress codes. What have you found about that?
It's pretty casual! No beach wear but no rules about long pants or closed toe shoes for men.

I’m looking at this resort for my wife birthday. However we’re in our 60 s. Young at heart love music parties. Dancing Entertainment. What’s your taught on the music. As we always go to riu . Entertainment daily / nightly.

Ooohh....tough question! We liked Valentin Imperial Maya a lot...but it's a bit pricey. Lower price we've stayed at Ocean Riviera Paradise twice and enjoyed it both times (definitely look at upgrading to privilege there). Platinum Yucatan Princess was nice too....
Having been to that resort in 2019, I will never ever go there again. We had a termite infestation in the room. At first everything seemed good, no issue there. But one night, I came back and put a glass of Strawberry Daiquiri on my bed table and within 15 minutes, thousands of little termites got drawn out of the table to drink the water coming from the condensation of my glass. We asked to be transferred to another room, they said it was full but they had one more. Upon arrival to our new room, it was full of spider webs, the toilet seat was broken and when we tried to sleep we heard a big "bang", we turned the light on to see a frog the size of a tiny plate that had jumped from our wall to the floor. We packed and left again. Aside from those badlucks, the food is horrible, absolutely horrible. This is insane, I know that in Cuba you don't eat that well but honestly, 1080 ROOMS FOR 1 BUFFET?!?!? That doesn't make any sense to me. And it's not like the buffet is big, it is tiny tiny, the variety of food is absent and is subject to shortage. The best food was the junk food available at the snack bar, which was decent. The beach was super beautiful, but to me, that vacation even at 969$ per person, helped me to get my priorities right, I'd rather spend 300-500$ more to go to Mexico. They say it's a 4.5 stars resort, but we gotta keep in mind that stars are only a measure of amenities available on the property (spa, jaccuzzi, pools, restaurants, tennis court, etc.) and is not a measure of how good the food or the resort is actually going to be, this is why resorts in Cuba tend to have such high ratings for such poor quality, I've been to 4 stars, 4.5 stars, 5 stars and 5 stars with 5 diamonds resorts in Mexico and even the 4 stars resort I've visited in Mexico is SO MUCH BETTER than Valentin Perla Blanca. The only thing I'll give Cuba, is that their beaches are quite beautiful.

Thank you! I have to admit that isn't something I really looked for so I can't say yes (or no) with a lot of confidence. What I will say is there were a lot of options for other diets (vegetarian etc.) so there likely were some gluten free options. Sorry I couldn't help more!

Well….it CAN be. We booked the cheapest diamond club room with Sunwing and then once booked went on the Royalton website and paid $60 to select our room. We were able to pick a pool view room with a jacuzzi on the balcony. It was less expensive than booking THAT room category with Sunwing. The issue is….until you’re booked…you can’t see what rooms are available to select on the Royalton site so there might not be better ones available. So, it’s a bit of a risk!

Nice walkthrough, we are going in a few weeks to the adults only side. It looks smallish but nice, I take it we will be able to book all the restaurants on all sides ? And you mentioned you have been there 4 times, Can you recommend some good excursions?
Thank you! The adults side is a bit small but the resort itself is so big...you don't really feel crowded most of the time. The restaurants are almost all on the family side (only one adults only). If you have Diamond Club you can make reservations at any of the restaurants...if not you just show up and put your name on a list. Excursions...these aren't all ones we've done from the Royalton but in the area we have enjoyed the Catamaya Catamaran, love going over to Isla Mujeres (you can book a Catamaran trip from the hotel....it was okay but a bit crowded/disorganized for us). We love taking the ferry over on our own and you can either rent a golf cart yourself or we've used Isla Driver Robby (they will drive you around to different beaches, points of interest, bars and restaurants). Doing that one again in January! The excursion to Tulum and cenotes are good too! Taxis have gotten crazy expensive in the area but going into Playa del Carmen or Puerto Morelos just to wander around is fun too. Have a great trip!

Yes! You can definitely do that!
Yes. Even more so, you should (in my opinion) always try and ask for a late check-out. Last time we needed one, they gave us the room until 5 pm, for free. Our transfer was around 5.30 so it was perfect. Especially, if you are Diamond Club and are kind and polite to your butler, you should be able to manage something.

Oh boy....I've been thinking about this since I said it in this video! Okay.....here's 5... 1. Cayo Santa Maria 2. Medano Beach (Cabo San Lucsa) 3. Playa Norte (Isla Mujeres) 4. Samana (Dominican Republic) 5. Four Sands Beach (Blind River, Ontario). That one is a bit of a wild card! Lol

Sorry - I couldn't watch to the end. Your sarcasm is just too painful. Cuba junkies don't care about most of the things you covered. We are just overjoyed that we can still vaca in beautiful Cuba without being confronted off the resorts by children selling contraband like so many other Caribbean resort countries. We don't go for a 'posh' factor. We go because of the people and the island and it's culture. It's difficult to listen to you compare every little detail to resort experiences in other countries.
That’s okay! Was just sharing my thoughts…everyone is welcome to their own opinions. I’ve travelled to Cuba before too - we felt very blessed to be back and had a great vacation but it was different this time. I like to share the good AND bad in my experiences…no where is perfect!

We found everything to be very clean. Definitely no bed bugs!
Are both sides of the resort open?
This was filmed in March…at that point no. I’m honestly not sure if that’s changed but I would guess they would wait until totally re-opening the one side until their capacity is higher. That likely won’t be until high season!
So only the Relax side is open?
In February only one side was open. They seem to switch up which side is which (when we stayed the first time the side you are referring to as relax was considered the active/party side!) They may have opened the other side now?
I’m headed there in a few days and I’m very nervous. I’ve heard so many horrible reviews. Would you recommend this resort?
Yes, I would still recommend it. It isn't perfect but I do think a lot of the bad reviews are a bit overblown. Still lots of positives!

Hi, the hotel was built on 2014 you think the installation looks old? You think the splash can be better??
We honestly didn't find it looked old. But I did just read they are planning to renovate all the rooms and restaurants starting in August! The Splash is brand new so I'd imagine everything is fresher!

Love this place! We were just here at the beginning of march (3rd time) and plan on going back again next year. We found the food a bit better this time than in previous years and having the resort booked to 1/2 capacity was sort of nice. Just a tip- you should consider recording sideways so that the videos fit better on screen. Especially when watching on a TV.

The beach was small (kind of in a cove) but really nice! We were lucky as there was almost no seaweed when we were there. Nice and calm for swimming!

The theatre has always been there. When you went last the roof was likely missing from a hurricane.
Ahhh...yes...that's possible! We were told they only recently started shows again since reopening!
@@melanielovesmexico6404 we have been to this resort 4 times. Loved the resort and staff. We just returned from Varadero and noticed that Cuba has big supply issues. Didn't go for the food or the room, for sure the sun and beach.
@Frank Newman 100%. I was expecting the food issues but maybe not quite as bad as they were. Still really enjoyed the resort overall!
Do the rooms have air conditioners?
Yes! The air worked very well!
