James Watson founded Watson Aero in early 2015, with the intentions of bringing a full-time engine overhaul/heavy maintenance facility to the airport (2J3) of his home town of Louisville, Georgia. James got his start in aviation in high school as a loader for the local cropdusting business, mixing chemicals for the spray rigs and fueling the aircraft. James went on to get his A&P/IA ratings, finishing top of the class in both courses, and scoring a perfect 100 on the IA exam. This channel is to provide viewers with an educational prospective and James day-to-day operations.
James has been involved in the overhaul of aircraft engines for the better part of 10 years, and holds factory maintenance certifications from Lycoming Engines and Continental Motors.
James also holds maintenance certifications from Cirrus Aircraft, and can provide your Cirrus with Service Center quality maintenance, at a drastically lower cost! (Excluding CAPS and avionics work).

Legit a better teaching than what I learned in person!
Many of us are working on homebuilt/experimental aircraft, so we are perfectly legal installing and timing mags, without an airframe and powerplant rating.
Thanks for this. Really appreciated. Clear, concise, and to the point.
excellent
👍
Appreciate your video sir. It really help.
This is better than what they taught me in Powerplant.. lazy teachers...
Excellent job James! Very simple clear and concise instruction
Yoooo! Doing some last minute reviews before my O&P’s in one hour and I come across you, homie. Hope you’re well! 💪🏾
Awesome explanation!
What is the purpose of X hole in distributer?
Thanks.It's a nice video
super clear instruction, thanks
So the TDC mark aligns with the TOP case split? Other instructions say the little hole on the starter?
Same.
In the video he stated and is showing the 25 degree alignment mark on the rear of the starter ring aligned with the split in the top of the crankcase. There is also a 25 degree mark on the front of the ring gear that aligns with the hole in the starter. So, there are two ways to align the gear to 25 degrees BTDC as stated in the Piper manual.
Very interesting and informative video. I notice it's using the Tempest brand oil filter, which Champion Aerospace recommends against.
Why?
Tempest competes with Champion so of course Champion Aerospace recommends against its use... Like Dah.
excellent video. good explain
Thanks! This is the video my professor recommended to us. But I notice something on 3:36 you said right hand side, but you point the left side of the engine... ?? I'm just curious
In this case imagine the aircraft is on it's nose. That cylinder he pointed to is on the right or co-pilot side if you are sitting in the seat.
@@G4Disco ohh. Alright, got it. Did not thought of that, maybe I was slow at that moment hahaha thanks!!
Very helpful! Thank you! N2953U
I have a feeling if automobiles had to be maintained as rigorously as aircraft, there would be fewer on the roads
Thanks James. Great explanation.
GOOD job
Good video.
Short and down to the point. Well done, Sir!
great review for new a and p.
Thank you!
Great explanation on how to handle a man with an impulse coupling.
Thanks for posting sir.
I have had more problems with the guys that have there A and P doing work then when I do my own. The A and P boys cannot be held accountable for there work. So I do my own.
Greg Plaka if you’re not a properly certificated mechanic doing the work that’s illegal
Im an A&P.. we can face jail time for improper work, thats pretty accountable
TheAow4321 truthfully the likelihood of jail time is extremely slim unless it can be proven something was done intentionally
dgreene1013 just saying, the risk is there. My certs can also be revoked(more likely)
TheAow4321 i know so can mine!
Right left side cylinder is confusing to amateurs. Number 1 cylinder is farthest forward on Lycoming, farthest rear in continental. TIO-541- Lycoming number one is on the left from the rear.
purchase a Manual money well spent
Damn that's helpful
Should make a video on finding top dead center and compression check
Literally the best magneto video I have seen
Great video James! Very professional... Clean cut, well spoken and HD. You build confidence to your viewers! Keep em coming! I've recommend you to all my students.
Damn man wish you could put Magneto's on my Continental engine
Good stuff, hope to see more.
Very informative !
