Meet Steve Hurrell, the man who captured behind-the-scenes photos of the Band Aid recording in 1984
Shocked by television news reports of a famine in Ethopia, musicians Bob Geldof and Midge Ure brought together the top artists of the time and recorded the iconic Band Aid charity single, Do They Know It’s Christmas?
Recorded on November 25th, 1984, this year marks the 40th anniversary of its release.
The single famously featured stars such as Bono from U2, Boy George, Phil Collins, Bananarama, Simon Le Bon, George Michael and many more, who all performed for free.
Stroud-based photographer Steve Hurrell tells Faye Hatcher how he played a part in the recording of the iconic whilst working for film production company Tattooist International.
Since his retirement Steve has concentrated his photographic skills on wildlife photography in and around Stroud and sells prints and greetings cards at The Shambles Market, Stroud, on Fridays.

Will they all die in a bizarre accident involving a consignment of Fish Fingers and a Mafia boss from Nessa's past?
A real historical treasure.
Simon, you have not answered any of my concerns and I feel that you do not represent me or the majority of Stroud constituents views. Shameful in my humble opinion.
It should be written by John Rogers, a very distant relative of mine. He was burnt at Smithfield's by Mary and bishop Bonner. Many were burnt in the making of the new English bible.
Why is this been sold ? Probably to some foreigner ? Get rid of the dross like the Elgin marbles and keep this in the UK 🇬🇧 it's OUR HISTORY
I AM FLABBERGASTED. A WATCH IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THIS RARE BIBLE. Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona sold for: $17.8 million, October 2017. The actor's personally worn Rolex Daytona became the most expensive wristwatch ever sold at auction, thanks to its association with Newman and its rarity.
I am in Australia. Are you saying that dead Rock Star (many of them died on drugs) and decadent celebrity material sell for more £ than the Word of God? No wonder Great Britain is in deep trouble. This book is priceless. The auctioneer should know that this book should be restored and placed in a museum. Christian British people should all pray for your country to repent and return to God. You are about to lose it. Fight for your beautiful country at the cross of Jesus Christ. Pray for a miracle from God to send you a righteous leader.
Harry Potter eat your heart out. Ha!
I suppose it contains all the same ridiculous nonsense in it than in its more recent printings!
Belongs in a museum. Our ancestors used to believe the stories in that book.
Yes another work of fiction and with as much truth as Lord of The Rings
A wonderful book of fairy tales to keep the peasants in line. 🙄
💸
It belongs in a museum
How much did it sell for?
£8,000 apparently
In the begynning * God created heaven and erth. The earh was voyd and empty and darkness was on the face of the depe, and the spirite of god moved upon the face of the waters. And God sayde: let there be made lyght and there was lyght made. Definitely not the version authorised by King James I.
He estimated it would sell for 1000 pound. Wow ! Way too low.
I would like to see the printing press that was used on this.
When first bound, this book was probably worth a couple of years wages for a well heeled clerk. It was the treasure of a community and I suppose it would have been read to people who hung on each word. It obviously remained in a rectory/ vicarage for many years having been passed down from one priest to another before being shelved in favour of a new volume/ translation. Sad to think that it is apparently worth almost nothing today by comparison.
If she could get a slightly larger microphone, the audio would be better.😂
As an American..I really hope this incredible Bible should stay in England.
For anyone interested : it sold for £8600 to a UK collector.
Amazing. About the price of a garden shed these days. The words alone are invaluable.
Thank you, I am so glad it will stay in the U..K.
Thanks, I was wondering...
Bargain 😊
Thank you for the follow up.
Thank you very much and greetings from North Germany. I love the Bible- God's word.
It is indeed Gods Word. I assume it has Gods name in there.
So little money for civilization.
Are you shitting me? 1,900 usd? I'm not even slightly religious, and I don't give a flip about rare books, but I would give $4,500 bucks for it
The consensus of major conservators today is that books such as this should be handled with bare hands rather than gloves. Bare fingers are far more sensitive than gloved ones, and are proven to handle the books more gently. Transferring oils from human fingers to the pages is just a ridiculous myth. "Avoid gloves for most books: Wearing gloves can actually damage books and make it harder to handle them: Gloves can dull your senses. Gloves can tear pages. Gloves often carry more dirt than clean hands. Gloves SHOULD be worn when handling materials that are marred by the natural oils on skin -- this includes photographs and film, metals, ivory -- and whenever there is a suspected health hazard (e.g., mold).
is this available on the Internet Archive yet
Items like that( organic materials ) should be stored or put in a crystallized vacuum or at least partially, to make it last longer ...to prevent decomposition ...
Very cool. Thank you.
The previous civilisation certainly knew how to build.
Beautiful bible
Before the King James Version!!!
Good for toilet paper and nothing else.
Just watched an episode of Cracker on Plex. Even then she showed true acting skills.
I own a Baskervilles Bible from 1769, would it excite anyone? All pages present and all illustrations also! PM me for a chat! Could be persuaded to sell!
At the 3min 55sec point, on the right hand side of the page, six full lines up from the bottom, is a reference to Robin Hood; spelt Robynhoode. I'd love to know what the context for that is.
You can read it at 3:56. It's in the Prologue and is used in the context of the tale of robin hood. I can't quite read all of the text before and after, but it is used in reference to the tale.
@@Giantdwarf00 Thank you.
Does it have a church bulletin tucked inside its pages from 1566?
This Bible just sold for about $12,000 usd. Would have loved to buy it at $1,000 😆
Minke….looks a little Manky to me….. rust in the body work, bumpers not straight, rubbers perished and everflex looking dreary….. more a 5 or 6 outta 10 I reckon. At least another 10-15 to spend just looking at it here
He’s not exactly gentle with it 😮
Please post the price it makes
£7200
A CATHOLIC Bible
Those items (feast days etc) were removed because of the Protestant revolt this Bible you are looking at is a Catholic Bible, an original Bible that was used for centuries 1500 years until Luther removed books and passages, added words like ‘faith alone’ etc
Very cool
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth!
Under the dank stairs at a vicarage. Imagining that. Actually Imagining if all the money spent on every religion went into bringing triage to our beautiful planet. Crazy, eh?
Please put it in a museum!!!!
It's been sold already.
This will sell for $20,000 plus.
£7,200 it went for.
@Giantdwarf00 That's a deal, I'd say. This is an excellent investment that will do nothing but go up in value, not to mention the cultural significance. Do you know who purchased it?
@@elanarobin Not sure. The only info I can find is that it had international interest, but went to a UK based collector 🤷♂
Uummmm only £1,000…no
