I've just bought myself one of those mini looms as I have so many hand knitted socks that need repair. You have inspired me!! Love your self-striping yarn. Fabulous colourway!
@midgeporter7495 oh I'm sure soon you'll be excited by a hole in your socks! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, I so enjoyed hearing about your 3D printing … as you know from my insta posts, my husband is big into 3D printing and has designed and made loads of stuff…all the way from handy things like an insert for the cutlery drawer (!) a door stop, brackets to hold the patio doors open etc - but also loads of Fibre tools for me! He has made me 3 looms and endless shuttles, as well as little boxes for my whorls and needles, also wool combs and blending board feet to tilt my home made blending board!! I could go on (even more). We found the shuttles he made fitted together better with a kind of puzzle piece shape (my idea amazingly😂) and also I like my shuttles curved in the ends and thinner, to manipulate warp threads etc! It’s a whole new exciting world!! (Sorry I went on!!). Oh, and I’m pleased you are bringing your loom into the house…weaving is wonderful especially in the winter! I’ve just finished my experimental gift weave - just have to choose my moment to take it off the loom - always exciting!!
@beverleylawton6899 I've been printing absolutely everything I can think of! Plant pots, Coat hangers, bookends and anything else that that ctahces my eye but designing a 3d object is a totally different way of thinking that I'm used to and I'm really enjoying the challenge. I have 3 different shuttle designs scribbled on posties that I'm dying to play around with and see if they work!
@beverleylawton6899 oh and I used a wee jigsaw joint think on the stitch shuttle I printed. It's quite a clever way of building things
@@FibrePunk I think it’s great that you are enjoying it so much. Have you made sock blockers yet? Also, my husband always tells me that 3D printing is a skill that takes time and his prints are so much better now than they were when he started. I guess it’s like spinning and weaving! You alluded to it in your video, about all the variables like bed temperature, tolerances and the density of filament you choose (I don’t know the technical names!). My husband also has an SLA printer now which is a whole other skill!! It’s great that our hobbies complement each other😂😂 I want a new tool and he designs one! 🥳
@beverleylawton6899 oh I haven't tried sock blockers yet. And yes I love a complimentary skill/ hobby!
3D printing is such an amazing tool! I remember when my little brother started learning to us a 3D printer. We were giddy over the littlest things he made. That Christmas he made me a yarn bowl, and I also have a 3D printed Turkish spindle now too.
I'm definitely still in the giddy phase!
the small drum is called the licker-in. the large drum is called the breast
I momentarily forgot the licker-ins name but I never knew the big drum had a name at all. Thank you!
1st i gasped when i saw your necklace :D and then of course all your creations and your 3d adventures are awesome ;) well done dear <3
Thank you sweetpea ❤️❤️
Would love to see you demo the darning loom!!! Thanks for a great video.
@@Lpaddle oh I could definitely do that! Thanks for watching
Great episode. So happy to hear you have met your nephew. Lucky teddy bear. Sounds like an 18 month sweater for him at one year old is a good plan. Your socks with that detail, the Officer Sweater and the blanket, all look wonderful. Love your gorgeous dyed yarns! And excited for your 3D printing adventures. Best wishes for more October!
@toomiepal thanks a lot Mike! ❤️❤️
Love the socks. Happy knitting
Thank you! And thanks for watching ❤️❤️
Thank you for the video ai love the fabric
Thank you!
Hi Marcus, I am knitting with your DK yarn whilst watching your Q&A. It is absolutely delightful and I am making quick progress on my Manzanilla sweater, even though it is 27 C, because summer wants to be autumn ;-) It sounds like Juno might benefit from learning to run alongside a bike. Lieuwe is much more high energy than Boele, and I can't imagine what he would have been like as a puppy.... Oh my... Good luck with that. He runs very well next to my e-bike (yes I cheat), but it can't be warm when we do that, and Boele doesn't like being left alone. Taking two dogs with me on the bike, is a bit scary though... I did manage it once, but I think I shouldn't push my luck any further than that one time. I love your little loom and I am going to look for one for myself! Ronald's socks wear quite quickly and I want to try weaving patches to reinforce/mend them. Happy autumn and see you soon.
Thank you for your video. Happy spinning.
@@neilstephen6761 thank you for watching ❤️❤️
Thank you for this great video, Marcus. It was lovely to sit and spin with you, while I watched! I enjoyed hearing your experiences - thank you for sharing. I thought your experiences of being a guy knittjng and engaging in the fibrearts, was interesting. Also your perspective about our wonderful community (here, and on Insta) being so loving and supportive being largely due to being female dominated, was real food for thought. Thank you for that. We have a lovely, caring community and I’ve always found Insta to be a great space to share my creative endeavours and learn from others. Btw, I need one of the little darning looms - it looks amazing!
Thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️ I totally reccomend the wee darning looms. They're very very fun to play with. And I don't put off mending things now haha
🎉love video and you are hot
Awesome Q&A
Thank you ❤️
Very nice Q&A! I am new here, so served as a nice means of introduction. Have an awesome week ahead!! 🖤🖤
Welcome! Tha k you for watching ❤️❤️
Being seen as a novelty is never fun! It devalues your work, reduces your depth of character, and makes you wonder if you're standing on your own merit, yes? I hope you are able to push past that and one day the fiber arts and many other communities can have enough diversity to not think twice about your 'novelty'!
I've got to say overall my experiences are positive. And totally outshine any small negative interactions I've had.
oh dear "the shawl of shame" i was pretty sure i knew your "worse" project :P it does look good on you though ;) that was a fun Q&A session!
@em4598 it didn't come to mind straight away but I think that's because I've blocked it out of my memory 😂
Your skeins are beautiful... you did a great job!
@@KYERRN thank you!
Your alpaca yarn is beautiful. It looks so soft and even. For the peacock socks, as the yarn is so busy I would do vanilla or a 3x1 rib 🧶
@andreamagill7034 thank you ❤️❤️
Hi this is the first time I have watched your vlogs and I really enjoyed it. The fabric is stunning. I have only started weaving in the past 6 months and I think a variable heddle will be on my Christmas list. 🧶
So glad you enjoyed it! The variable heddles really opens things up!
Immediate subscription! I have angora goats and just learned how to spin the fiber and could never find a good project for the art yarn I’ve been spinning. Love this! Do you have a recommendation for how to get into weaving ?
@gabestroh2149 well thank you so much! I totally got into weaving for a way to play around with art yarns in a way that will show all their unique features the best. I'm still definitely a novice with weaving, but I decided to go with a rigid heddle because it just seems a bit easier to jump into as a beginner. The fabrics I want to create are more about the yarn and I'm not hugely interested in weaving detailed patterns that I would need a multi-shaft loom so the rigid heddle was a better option for me.
@@FibrePunk Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely look into to the heddle! Keep being amazing!
Oh hi Marcus! Im Bruce from Canada. Discovering your channel :)
Hi Bruce! Thanks a lot for watching ❤️❤️
You did a lot better (got more done) for your tour de fleece than I did. I am really impressed with your hanks, they look beautiful.
Thank you so much❤️
Aww really glad I came across your channel! I LOVE the northeasterly blanket! Its on my to do list ... along with about a 150 other things ... eventually I'll get to it :D Love the yarn your spun, its a lovely colour xx
Thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️ I have my own to do list that's definitely going to outlive me haha
@@FibrePunk hahaha 🤣 at least you know who to leave the stash for! Haha Would you say the northeasterly is an easy pattern? Xx
I recommend the pattern Solar by Gillywizz, its free and simple enough but keeps things interesting.
First time viewer here. I love all of your projects…so far. 😜. But I’m only 10 min in. 🧶. I’m watching you talk about your ornamental yarn. I get it. I have a non yarn related question. I have two passions, knitting and plants. I love both ❤. Could you mention in your next vid the name of that gorgeous polka dotted beauty beside you? Cheers and nice sweater!😉
Ohh plants and crafts are my two biggest passions. The spotty plant is Begonia Maculata. Super available here and really easy going. It usually grows upright but needs a bit of support. My was reaching the ceiling so I've just left it to grow trailing down and it seems to be quite happy growing like that 🙂
Oh! and your sweater looks wonderful!!
Thank you ❤️❤️
I am so glad I found your video! I enjoyed you sharing your "ornamental" yarn story. I also have a bit of ornamental yarn, that will some day be in a project, but not yet. I also have a hard time remembering M1L and M1R. I have to use the mnemonic: "be right back" to remind myself that an M1R is picking up the yarn between the stitches from the back (so my left needle comes under that yarn from the back). Thank you for sharing your making!
I'm so glad you found the video too! Glad you enjoyed it ❤️ thank you for the M1 tip I think that will help me remember 😀
HELLO DEAR! I have a channel as well, and I have a few friends im gonna tell about you!
Your accent is so beautiful ❤I could listen to you all day 🎉many hugs Adrien
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
Hi Marcus. Great to see your projects. I am so impressed with your spinning. I don't spin so seeing how much you have done is really impressive. Life always eats into good crafting time sadly. Congratulations on the 500+ subscribers :)
Thank you so much for watching❤️ I'm happy with what I managed to make with the time that I had.
Wow! you got quite a bit of the Alpaca done. Yay!!!
I think I done OK with the time I had!
I really like the Crunkled Socks by Kay F Jones for easy, mindless knitting. They have a nice texture, but it's easy to see where you are in the pattern, and easy to work on without paying much attention. :)
Oh I just looked them up. They look really fun!
Interesting technique. Have you tried Tunisian Crochet?
I have done but it's been many many years since. Maybe something I need to revisit.
Was nice seeing your WIPs! For the QnA, I was originally thinking of asking about what fiber craft you got into first, but I'm guessing it's probably knitting, so now I have to think of a different question... and I think I've just thought of a two more interesting ones. 1. What was your LEAST favorite pattern/project/yarn(for whichever craft you want to talk about) to work on/with? Or if there isn't anything you can count as your least favorite, I guess you can just try for your most favorite instead. 2. Have you ever made anything for your dog, or do you plan to? Because although she's already adorable, I think a collar with a little bow on it would up her cuteness factor considerably. Also saw other people mention this, but it's always nice to see another openly queer fiber artist! Hello from Texas, USA, where the nosier little old ladies in the craft shops have an at least 50% chance of looking at you sideways if you talk about "the gays and transgenders" while they're nearby XD (^ this is said in good humor by the way; it happens, but there are also a whole lot of queer people in Texas too, and many of them are drawn to the arts, including the fiber variety. None of the judgemental people matter to me when I also notice someone pausing at the purples and asking their friend if they think it would be a good match for their pride flag!)
Fellow Weegie here. I live in Germany though. Anyway what about a 3x1 rib. After the heel, I normally carry the 3x1 over the top part of the foot and have stockinette for the underside of the foot. Makes is slightly more interesting than plain stockinette but not too difficult.
I quite like a 3x1 rib for socks. They look good, let the yarn do the talking and I like the extra negative ease. I've only every been to Germany once, to Berlin but I loved it and would like to see more of Germany
Hi , nice to see another UK knitter. How about an all over simple rib as the wool is so busy as to detract from a lovely pattern and it would still be mindless bus knitting.😁
@SusanRoberts-uk6gi thanks for watching 😀 I settled on a really simple stitch panel on each sock. I have a load of sock yarn that I just want to use up so there may be some simple ribs in the future ❤️
I love the man of Aran sock pattern but it is kinda complex. It has a nice honey comb cable
@ericrangel1582 oh I love a honeycomb cable! Definitely a pattern I'll keep in mind for a less busy yarn!
No way, I’m visiting Scotland soon. What is your favorite knitting store?
Oh amazing! It depends where you're visiting. Glasgow you have The Yarn Cake. Great wee yarn store & cafe. Edinburgh has a few lovely shops including Ginger Twist & Bee Inspired Fibres. Hope you enjoy your trip ❤️❤️
Bring your eel wheel to your grandmas so she can see you do the process. You can chat while you’re plying :-)
The small drum is the licker in.
Thanks!
If you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend watching GillianEve’s (pretty sure I spelled that wrong) video about how much will blended into alpaca keeps it feeling like alpaca, but behaving A little bit more like wool. It might change your plans for the Spinning And carding. Otherwise happy Spinning and Spinning prep.
Oh thanks for the reccomendation I'm a big fan of her videos but I don't thi k I've seen that one!
Enjoyed your video
@@neilstephen6761 thank you ❤️❤️
Your yarn is too busy for a pattern design enjoy the colour variation. Love the crochet. Ornamental yarn is good for the mind and brings happiness. Happy knitting
Yeah it's definitely too busy for an interesting pattern. I've settled on a simple little detail. It doesn't show up super strong but it just keeps it a little bit more interesting. ❤️
What a lovely podcast! I am also a bus sock knitter! I like to throw in a simple slip stich pattern, or maybe a line of fancy rib down the back of the sock for interest. Just enough to keep the brain going without being a chore!
I've settled on a very simple stitch detail panel on each. Really keeps.me motivated 😀
The way I remember it is "left through the front door" (make one left, insert needle from the front) and "be right back" (make one right, insert needle from the back). I think I learned it from a Stephen West video.
Oh that's a brilliant way to remember. Thank you!
That rainbow bag is gorgeous 😮🎉. From Phoenix, AZ, USA
Thank you. Definitely one of my favourites.
I really enjoyed spending my Sunday morning "with" you. (I'm working on my duster.) I've been missing IVKN and it was absolutely delightful to hear your story about Liorah, yarn swapping and the bison yarn. I absolutely adore you, Marcus!
@manicspinner1959 Thank you for watching ❤️ I really do feel the absence of IVKN during their break.
Oh I can empathise, SYMPATHISE with your situation!!!!!!! I get gifted alpaca fleeces too 😱 They can be extremely dusty (I find that I’m more allergic to this dust than anything that’s in sheep’s wool). There are some consolations: 1) you don’t need hot water to wash… but, you’re going to need a LOT of water (as you’ll need to rinse twice as much as sheep’s wool) 2) having not paid $ for them, you can be very heavy on your skirting. Good luck! (Btw… garments made with 100% alpaca won’t have any “memory”… that is they will stretch and not go back into shape, so I always get my alpaca blended with sheep’s wool)
The memory of the fibre is something I'm taking Into account. I'm spinning some 100% that I plan to weave a blanket with but if I hope to make any garments (which I would really like to) I'll definitely need to blend in some wool. Processing alpaca is a lot of work. But the lack of lanolin really makes it easier!
Could you move the plant? Love the projects and so pleased to see that you are making yourself a garment!
I'm planning on moving the whole room around soon. I could just sit further up on the couch but I always forgot until I'm recording that the plant is a nuisance.
