    Q. Why did you embark on an ocean crossing if you don’t like waves, boat noises, you get seasick? What did you expect? Didn’t you do some shakedown/training sailing?

    • @yard2yacht
      @yard2yacht 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We don’t mind waves and we have some experience from living on our own trawler traveling full time. We expected to learn how to sail during the crossing but since the captain (boat owner) didn’t know how to sail we never learned. There was supposed to be a sea trial which never happened nor did we have any MOB drills. This trip could have had a tragic ending. Sadly the boat wasn’t ready and we didn’t do enough research to understand what all this meant. We should’ve never left Florida 🫣 Thank you for commenting and for watching the video 🙏

      @@yard2yacht Without experience NO boat is ready in anything more than 20kts of wind where you need good boat handling, I’ve seen macho charterers happily slam the hull going straight at small 1.5-2 m but steep waves, I could hear the rig shaking … I had also had guys willing to learn, who could pump steer on larger waves on the quarter (a very difficult course) at the end of a week. @@yard2yacht I think we all would prefer to not see this and have you be helpful, especiallywhen you two are clearly so inexperienced and unable to help with decisions, this was evident with cutting a dinghy loose instead of hauling it to the deck, if you were experienced, you would have done that before leaving to cross . Crew helps, if your useless and know nothing about sailing, you had no business going with Frank to be crew, making content for your own personal monetary gain is unscrupulous. Before you say captain has the last say, you had no business going on a trip of this magnitude with no real experience, if there was at least another experienced person sure, but two rookies and one captain, no way. If you were experienced and you had a captain refuse to do essentials like haul a dinghy before crossing the Atlantic, you woukd have gotten off before leaving. Fact is, you put your lives and Frank's life at risk, just to film content and make money. Shame on you.

    • @yard2yacht
      @yard2yacht 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You make many valid points especially that we had no business on that voyage across that Ocean. It was life threatening and none of the captain, boat or crew was prepared for it. In our defense we did suggest that the dingy should be stored on deck but the captain wanted it on the davits. Certainly a competent captain or experienced crew might have saved the dingy but that wasn’t us. As for filming, we asked for Frank’s permission before we agreed to go on the trip and he was happy with it. But of 816 hours at sea we filmed about 10 hours total which became five 15-minute videos of our time across the ocean . Thanks for watching our video and for your input. We do appreciate your feedback.

    There are so many amateur 'Captains' out there. No safety training just lots of so called experience. Experience of when everything goes well with everything working... Think twice before you take crew onboard no matter what they say they might have as experience. Most can't even do a clove hitch or a cleat hitch!!! I'm a professional skipper in the mediterranean I wouldn't go sailing on most peoples boats because they only do necessary maintenance and no preventive maintenance.

    Thanks a lot for this honest report! I only see two mistakes: 1. The owner should have hired a captain for the trip and not pretend to be a captain himself. 2. You, should have either forced him to hire a captain in Horta or jumped ship. Motoring into the wind during an Atlantic crossing because you don’t know how to tack is the craziest thing I have ever heard in a sailing video.

      We had plane tickets to leave Horta but decided last minute to finish the trip (a big mistake that we clearly regret to this day). We absolutely should have had a licensed Captain onboard and if there had been a competent Captain onboard I’m sure the outcome would have been very different. Thanks for watching and for commenting. We appreciate you 🙏

      It was memorable for the misery. We are fortunate because it could have been so much worse. Clearly, the captain, the boat, and the crew were woefully under prepared. Thank you for watching our video and for commenting.

      @@yard2yacht I plan to buy a small boat next year and learn as I go too. I used to get seasick on an aircraft carrier and the dark sea at night scares me.

    I'm not a sailor but loss of power + no working mainsail = Mayday, for me. Not to mention the inexperienced captain and crew.😮 The perfect storm.

    No way did you pass hundreds of container ships.With this embellishment it leads me to take everything you say with a grain of salt.

      We crossed over the shipping lanes north of the Straits of Gibraltar in the dark. This is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. Daily more than 300 ships pass through the Straits. Clearly we didn’t have contact with each of them but were tracking quite a few on our AIS that had a CPA of less than two miles where we had to hail the freighter/container ship or had to take evasive action. I've seen a lot of wild things, but an ocean crossing to get your feet wet is on another level. Perfect example of what not to do. Great post! Hope the 99% couch sailors watch it. Lives will be saved!

      Yes, we had no business trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean. We are very fortunate because it could have been much more tragic. Thank you for watching our video and for commenting.

    From the video description it sounds like you either did no preparation, or were completely incompetent at assessing if your boat was seaworthy or not. You also it hit 2 fuel docks before you even left? Were you just hoping the transmission would fix itself? I can understand the first time, but after that it’s just ignorance.

      Not prepared, not experienced, and not skilled. We are guilty and admit we shouldn’t have been in the ocean. Here’s a link to the full video. I boat but never got my sealegs, always feel uneasy. Maybe the captain just had a bad mental week, brain aneurysm, our brains can have sick week. We hallucinate or feel dread and fear for no reason. No one to blame, a simple medical problem that comes and disappears next week. Or i could be wrong. If people can see ghosts and UFOs clearly a brain can misfire. Or i could be wrong.
