Dunlop Trailmax Raid 16.000km / 10.000 miles review - Norden 901
Dunlop Trailmax Raid is the hotest tire on the ADV market right now, and for a good reason. The compound and shape of it makes this tire great offroad and on-road. Crazy good wear ratio is what makes this tire special as well, and fact that it still grips awesome on asphalt even after all these kilometers.
Have you tried it yet? Thinking of getting one? Any additional questions?

You guys shredding nice on this trails 😎
Nice video, I am very happy with my rear Raid(10000 km) on my Norden Expedition, and I have boughted a new rear one. My question is about the front, do you think that the front is better or worst than TKC80?
I would prefer Raid over TKC80 for any situation in terms of grip. TKC80 only looks better IMO.
Wich tires are on your Scrambler?the standard ones I can't believe 😅
tkc80. very good tire for small scramblers.
My only complaint is with the Raid front tire on pavement it reacts to every imperfection in the surface, it gets old after awhile. but it is always good when cornering on pavement or hard dirt.
I didn't feel like that, but that is maybe because I am running mu front always at 2bar max.
@@stavrozinio I'll try them at a bit lower psi, thanks.
Running 26psi they are definitely happier these last few rides. I was at the Yamahas recommended 32 before.
@@ericschellenberger612 tire pressure is a very subjective thing. maunfacturers (tires and bikes) have to write an average best pressure, but I weigh 70kg with gear, someone weighs 110kg with gear.. someone rides packed with 30 kilos more, someone rides light. balkan roads are not same quality as the ones in switzerland, and not all of our ride-styles are same. different strenght of sidewalls/carcas, 18" or 17". knobs or not... so many factors to take into account when it comes to pressure.
Not sure about the Standard model but the TC and ABS on the Expedition are on another level from all the bikes I owned prior. I run TC and ABS off-road and they never hinder my abilities.
they work same on all models I have tested. great electronics but I use them basically never. offroad abs is 👌
Any camshaft issues on that Norden beast? :)
No. Checked at 30k and at 60k kms, totaled it in an accident this summer at 65.000kms, and now riding a new 2024 norden with xplor suspension. we will see how this one goes. previous one was an unicorn really. this 2024 spends about 15% more l/100km because of euro5+ and I can feel that, and it is annoying, but everything else seems about the same for now 🤙
@@stavrozinio stay safe brother :) good luck
would you change a Norden for a Norden Expedition for the sake of suspension despite the +3 cm to the seat height? you just said in the video that this motorcycle is higher than you are comfortable with
I upgraded to xplor in May this year, and am totaly fine with it. it is very high but I got used to it. barely touching ground with one foot, and I keep it at max preload for jumps. meanwhile I had a crash (totaled my 2022 norden), and got a 2024 (normal) month a go, and fitting it with xplor as I'm typing this :) I think apex is better for road riding still.
@stavrozinio so when riding with no jumps, 80% good road and 20% dirt xplorer suspention doesn't make much sense?
@@sys_userno need for xplor suspension for light-medium offroad. xplor is really made for more agressive and fast rally-like riding. I feel more comfortable on road with stock suspension honestly, but I really prefer taking 901 offroad.
fuck me
Mitas fall apart?? extremely durable tires. In perspective the Mitas tires will last longer than your CAMSHAFT on husquarna(KTM)!
65.000kms on my husky, checked cams 2x, as new. Anlas CapraX falls apart, and old e09. e07 will last for 50.000km but omly because it is made out of plastic :*
@@stavrozinio anlas is Erdogan tire, normal.. Lol 2x camshaft…
Hello brotha, l love this video! Im thinking about getting svart 401 2024 what do you think about his off road capabilities? Also can you tell me what tyres are you using? Thank you!! you should upload more videos
tnx bro. i think new 401 is not as good as 2018/2019 for offroad as it has very low clearance. I use tkc80 here, solid tire for this bike. maybe more videos next year... :) but I am regular on instagram with shorter stuff: @_stavro cheers 🫶
Hi there. Enjoyed your review. But, I hope you won’t mind if I provide my feedback. I am quite the aggressive road rider and reasonably competent off road. But….. I am not getting even close to the wear you are getting. So, I am quite perplexed. I ride a PanAm (yes, heavy bike) so am running 36/38 PSI. I tried 38/42 and they were awful. If you’re running 29psi on the street I am really struggling to see how you would get 16,000km. I suppose I might try 36/36 and see how that goes. Thanks and have a great day.
Yes, I hear from many people they get maximum as half as I have gotten outta them.. I do tend to train powersliding on tarmac and offroad alike, but I think it's just that Norden is 215kg, and I am 75kg with gear max, and since I travel mostly with tank bag only, basicaly sub-300kg (660lbs) is total weight for my most packed tours, and I travel often with only a backpack (9l) when I travel light. For example, my first Karoo Extreme (rear) made something under 9k (5500mi), mostly light touring during winter, and second time of using it I managed to pull out barely something under 4k (2500mi) of shredding in summer, until it became slick, so it has something definitely something to do with how I rode it and time of year and temperature. Also, have in mind that smaller radius tires wear out quicker, as they have to spin more times in order to cover same distance, which can make a noticable difference on long usage. Tire pressure is def a subjective thing differing from tire to tire and rider to rider. For example my current d908rr feels same at 14psi and 28psi as it is a hard tire and I am a light guy, while with trx raid I could really feel every 5%+/- of pressure change. Experiment with pressures is my only advice I can think of. trx raid definitely felt for me like a tire that should be run a bit under recommended pressure, but then again, it's my preference and roads I rode on are usually patchy and not smooth as highways. Cheers
@@stavrozinio Thank you for the detailed feedback - appreciated. Yes, agree, the weight is a significant part of the equation. And, like you, I tend to slide on both surfaces. I will play further with tyre pressures.
I’m a Dunlop fan. Never had any trouble at all with that product. Also great video and humor. I currently have Dunlop trailmax missions on one of my bikes. They wear very good and are predictable. Appreciate your video.
So what's a more reliable motor, the triumph 400x motor or the Svartpilen one? Really like both Motorcycles.
well, 400x just came out.. I have 30.000kms on mine with no problems. I am pretty confident 401 is better for dropping and offroading tho.
haha fun vid bra..got my sub......however...you said the vid would last longer than you last in bed.....should have been 30 seconds...not 6:28🤣👊👊
WHO SNITCHED!!?
PERFECT WHEELIE <3
Wow, I enjoyed every single second of it. thanks, man.!
thank you! glad you like it :)
Now this is the kind of footage I wanted to see!
I just got one! Any modifications on the bike's? I'm guessing you guys have changed 1 or 2 thing's ...please share
I'm using only fork risers from notable mods. tkc80 for tires... projektracing fender riser for mudguard... thats it.
That’s a ton of abuse to throw at the 401 tho. Doubtful it’d hold up long in that environment. Love my ‘20 but on asphalt and NC/TN mountains, that’s where it really lives. Kudos to the off road stuff. It is a blast on fire roads and dirt, but you can’t stand up on the pegs and not be out of sorts.
Great video brother😬🔥🔥
Nice moves 👌🏽
Ein klasse Bike Video 😎👍. Danke Jungs ✌️
Guess who wants to buy a svartpilen even more now?
who said u could have MY name amigo
Amazing work!
Awesome ✌🏾
fajerrrr
Hmm, those tyres looks kinda destroyed :D Well done! Appreciate the review, I going. to check them out next after the stock tyres are trashed.
Nice edit
I will never be half as cool as this guy. 😪 Might as well go back to selling insurance on golf carts down in Del Boca Vista, Florida.
Between your riding and your filming.... let me just say that you're a got dang Bill Picasso!
Both my favourite bikes
Insanely good and a whole lotta fun!
How did you increase the low end torque? Or what modifications you did on the 401 ?
it's stock. only fork risers and tkc80 tires from mods that change how it rides.
@@stavrozinio OMG! That sounds like you've some great skills...
change the front sprocket.
@@darkseid1358 Duke 250 Sprocket? How much difference does it create in comparison to the stock sprocket ?
@@darkseid1358 Can this mod be done on the 2024 Svartpilen 401 ?
The video make me want to buy this bike lol
These stock?
So SP401 vs KTM690 is there anything SP does better than KTM on/offroad?
How did you like them in the wet on tarmac? That's always my biggest concern.
Superb. Very soft compound, sticks great on wet and cold. I will be getting back on to raid front + karoo extreme rear as I really love karoo extreme for my solo offroad adventures, but missing confidence on front with anakee/tkc80 at front.
Watched all the xcape reviews out there. But yours and the one bret traks are my favourites. Subscribed!❤️
Do you think this tyre would last 5k miles on a ktm 1290sas with 3 panniers?
yes, 5k miles sounds about right, but don't expect much offroad performance when you get close to that number. on the other hand, grip on tarmac will stay pretty great even when you make them slick :)
@@stavrozinio fantastic! I’ll be doing pretty much all road riding but like the option that it can do a little off road. Seems a great tyres and just wanted to make sure it’ll do the 5k miles. Thank you
@@markworthington1710 I just road 2,250 miles mostly road (some trails) around France and the Alps fully loaded (2021) 1290 SAR - guess there's 500 miles left on the rear
@@jimcalvert4678 I’ve decided to just put Michelin road 6’s on and see how well they last. May well need changed during my trip
Great review, everything I want to know and no BS.
Second vid of yours watched, but I appreciated the great cinemaphotography and dry sense of humour ... so liked and subscribed now.
Great video - subscribed and off to order the tyres for my GS. Quick question: what’s the camera and mount you use on the front of your helmet?
insta360 x2 in smallrig cage on normal gopro mount 🫡 its very wide pov when shot in 360 degrees, but quality much worse than gopro. win some lose some. tnx 🤙
🙂👍.
does your bike have a stock suspension? any mods? disapointed with the rear stock shock on mine
no suspension mods (as at the moment of filming this). for me it is fine on a bit stiffer preload even for agressive jumping as I am light (75kg with gear). I have switched to xplor kit, front and rear recently.
@@stavrozinio thanks! xplor much better?
@@TheSuperBaltazarfor offroad yes, but not for street.
Thank you for this awesome shots... Cheers from the Philippines 🤘
are they better or worse than anakee wild on road??
much better than wilds, and even more on the wet.
@stavrozinio sweet thanks man!
@stavrozinio just got some priced for myself, gonna be about $600 usd to get them and install them but im gonna get them as soon as I can lol
@@catalyst429 that's pricey. here they go about 380eur
Hi there, Nice vid! What mods do you have on the Svartpilen?
not many: fork risers (3cm), tkc80 tires, and projektracing high fender mount. rear mudguard taken off, and it's a 2019 model so it has high clearance.
