Thank you very much! I recorded this with a 20+ year-old Line6 PodPro 2.0 modeler🙂I couldn't use a live amplifier in that appartment (nor in my current one for that matter) with regard to the neighbours. I used a Fender Black Panel emulation. It's from 1984, but I bought it used in 1988 (and it already was in the state it is in now, I don't know what that previous owner did with it) I have never played an EA-650, no.

Hello from UK Laurent, and thank you for your really helpful vid of your “impulse buy” Epiphone Century Archtop. Although now almost 80 and primarily a home jazz pianist, I’ve always loved the design, history and sound of an archtop. I now have an Epiphone Masterbilt Zenith c2016 which I love, although my fingers can nowonly manage abbreviated chords. Such a pleasure to hear you do justice to it……I also, when amplifying, use a Fishman Loud Box! Thank you again……please keep posting, it’s such delight to hear such good playing. Best wishes, Trev
I have a soft spot for those Ibanez MCs,** the golden era of original made in Japan guitars (1978 - 81) but all three are excellent. **Those Japanese babies play excellently, are really beautiful and though not cheap, they didn't cost an arm and a leg to buy. I remember my guitar dealer in Athens selling the full series in his shop, including this one, at very reasonable prices. I regret not buying it though I could afford it at the time.
Ibanez hadn't built their later reputation yet and offered very good quality for money. Their build-quality was equal if not better than that of Fender and Gibson back then. I only found the Super 88 pickups not great on the MC550, but those I replaced 🙂
Brilliant playing, and the guitar handled it very well indeed. I'm in the process of buying one second hand, and I can wait to get it. Thanks for the demo.

Saw Herb Ellis jam with Attila Zollar playing one.
Been playing over 50 years I've owned a couple Les Pauls and also one of those Ibanez guitars. The Ibanez although very well constructed had too much electronics in it for me to fiddle with and sounded too bright or clear. Back then I used to play more fusion, these days I play mostly bebop and the Les Paul seems to fit the bill overall. Never owned an SG. By the way Jan Ackerman was one of my early influences and guitar hero back in the day as well.
I've come to think an important difference is also made by the fact that its an 24-fret; that pushes the neck pickup futher towards the bridge.

Thank you! :-) I'm using 011 here, but I specifically bought this guitar for its better lead tone than my other amplified acoustic, so you might try 012 as well for a somewhat more powerful strumming sound.
Very nice sound and great skill. However, can you please describe the condition in your right hand that ended your fingerpicking? What is it called and how did you contract it? I have something in my nerves and I'm wondering if that's what I got. I hope not.
Hi Anthony, it's a condition called Focal Dystonia. It's not a physical condition, but basically your brain getting confused about which motion your fingers have to make. About 1 in 100 people get it, typically (like me) somewhere in their 40s. It typically happens to parts of the body (often fingers) that have to make rapid, precise movements, but wind instrument players will get it in their lips as well. It's not really known how or why people contract it. Some people can retrain themselves out of it again, but it's often a process of practicing many hours a day for several years.
I intend to make a bit more elaborate video about it, in combination with a demo of my Hopf classical guitar.
@@LGuitarB well you play very well. I guess mine is different. It's a neuropathy caused by a recent heart surgery. My fingers are stiff, but they're coming back. Nice job on your guitar. Stewmac is up to a grand and a half on those kits now.

When brand new one was the price in US was $3500 for the top... and thanks of what you said about all this is fantastic... and bought it 4 years later for $800... that’s cool
Oppps... sorry I paid, not $800... that was $425 20 years ago... and I still have it and that guitar is close the sound, sorta, a Gibby ES-175, but the Gibby moves more sound than the Pe-175... either one is great, but the PE-175 is a little lighter than my Es-175. Sure my Gibby was made in 2001 for those 175 a little thicker... to me

I have exactly the same! It is excellent and a very nice part of my collection. I love to play it acoustically as well as amplified. Both good natural sounds. It stands proudly beside my Gibson 175 in my guitar rack.

Apologies for me looking between my right- and left hand so frequently. It's because originally I wrote this piece to be played with my right-hand fingers, and I converted it to be played with a pick (because of a problem I developed in my right hand), and I really have to check if I'm hitting the right string all the time 🙂
