I’m not convinced. Though I will refrain from judging her too harshly considering she is in fact a kid as the people in this comment section have pointed out many, many times. But when you look at her actions throughout the show, prioritizing personal wants and romantic fixations over things that would benefit the world of Gravity Falls from a deadly threat. As well as repeatedly and consistently ignoring the boundaries of others and enforcing her will upon them with no regards for the consequences of said actions. Such as the time when she doctors a love potion, and uses it to pairs Robbie and Tabry together. Or when she forces Stan to tell the truth by giving him those truth telling teeth and so on. As I said, she is a kid so I will grant some leniency in my judgement, and perhaps Mabel acts this way because her parents never truly took the time to teach things like boundaries to her, but I will say that her being 12 doesn’t give her a free pass to just do whatever either. Kids need to be held to some accountability to be able to grow into responsible adults, and while this is a cartoon, imagine if Mabel was a real kid who drugged two people without their consent simply due to the fact that she wanted them together? Seems a bit troubling. And it’s troubling for me to think that there are kids who may be watching this, and think that this type of behaviour is okay. We, as adults can comprehend the difference between reality and fiction, but kids cannot, that is why what we put in media is so important, and that is why I feel that Mabel’s actions should not be excused, and that she should at some point be held responsible. I say all this because, even as someone with good parental guidance growing up, I still found myself heavily influenced by the media that I consumed in the formative years of my life, which is why I stress this now. So no, I personally feel that Mabel cannot be considered a good person, frankly the term good person is a generic and subjective term anyways, she may be a good person according to your standards, but certainly not mine. And that’s fine for me to say, it is my opinion after all. I would personally say that she’s a flawed person with potential to become a good person as she grows and learns to actually take accountability for her actions, but as of now, this is my stance on her character. And before you jump at me for not including Dipper in this, I feel the same way towards him, he also has many flaws to speak of, but people are heavily critical towards Mabel because her short-sightedness and selfish wants often lead to unnecessary conflict, and in the grander scheme of things she unknowingly and unintentionally causes greater strife and stress to them. I imagine it’s already quite stressful dealing with a supernatural 2 dimensional spirit, add Mabel’s fixations to the mix and it’s a recipe for disaster. Anyways, I’d be curious to hear others thoughts on this, leave a comment below if you’d like to contribute or counter what I said.

Why is it actually good

Let’s appreciate Mabel for being one of the only cartoon characters in history to change her outfit for every episode

Imagine being such a good show that Mabel is considered a “bad character”, whilst we live in a reality where Velma and countless of bad shows with bad characters (or even bearable shows with bad characters) She’s like the Tau in the 40K universe: the villains in most other works of fiction, the closest thing to good guys in the 41st millennium.
