Aglaonema Not Doing Well? Try This!
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Is your Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen) not growing well, dropping leaves, and not putting on size? First rule out over/under-watering and a light issue. Next check for pests. If none of these problems exist, it is time to take the plant out of the pot and look at the roots. Most Aglaonema plants are made from grouped rooted cuttings, and these cuttings are planted into the nursery pots with the ...
How to Treat Black Leaf Mold / Fungus : Indoor Gardening 101

This video is about how to treat your houseplant for black leaf mold or black leaf fungus. This mold fungus occurs on the undersides of leaves and is usually from high humidity/ increased plant transpiration and poor air circulation. Black leaf mold is common on Aglaonemas, Scheffleras, and can occur on other kinds of houseplants. It is easy to cure and all you need is dish soap, a rag and some...

    Thanks so much for all this info, Stephanie! I just adopted my brother's majesty palm and your video answered all my burning questions. I really appreciate you showing us your palm- it really helps me as a visual learner, and it gives me hope that in a few years my sad palm will be majestic like yours! I started watching your other videos (so many plants!), but didn't see all so just wondering if you have any citrus trees and, if you do, how you care for them. Thank you!

    Greetings! I bought a majesty palm at the beginning of summer 2024. It's been on my patio the entire time. It's the 1st day of fall, time to bring it in. Yesterday I noticed a mushroom growing on top of soil. I removed it. My question is...should I repot it THEN treat for pests or treat pests 1st? Also, I have a 2nd majesty on my patio as well. Do you think the mushroom spores could've infected my 2nd palm. What to do about yellow leaves on one of the palms? Do you think fertilizer would improve its appearance? Many Thanks!❤ Your palm is simply stunning

    Thanks for the valuable info! Would you say the majesty palm prefers higher watering frequency irrespective of the soil? For example, I have a majesty palm in a general potting mix and find that soil stays damp for at least 3 weeks after each watering. It gets plenty of indirect light throughout the day, though it's growth & appearance have been stagnant for several months. I've heard some people suggest "half" watering (stopping before water starts coming out the drainage hole), that way you can water more frequently and the plant would prefer this. Thoughts?

    So they virtually sell you a plant that is doomed? I get that it is faster to plant 3 or 4 in the one pot to make a larger plant and then able to get a better price but they use plastic? Why not use the jiffy pots that degrade then everyone is happy.

    • @allhouseplants

      Hi, yes you should be able to. Just make sure the trunks aren’t fused at the base (like, you don’t have to cut them apart with a saw) and *try* to be as gentle as you can with the roots. It will be traumatic for the plant, so try to cause as little collateral damage as you can

    Actually Brown Tips Could Mean A Humidity Issue. FYI..

    • @allhouseplants
      @allhouseplants 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you are correct, for a plant like Calathea or begonia that requires very high humidity. Most palms like high humidity, but can tolerate moderate humidity well. The most common reason for brown tips in plants that tolerate low to moderate humidity is overwatering (or in the case of dracaena chorine sensitivity) 💚

    I bought one from Home Depot recently and it was extremely root bound. I could not loosen them by hand and opted not to cut any of them off while repotting in a larger pot with fresh soil. Was this a mistake? Should I saw/cut off a portion of the roots?

    • @allhouseplants
      @allhouseplants 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, you don’t have to cut the roots of a bound plant. The pros go back and forth on that. Loosening them helps the new roots spread out faster, but damaging them too much can be dangerous for the plant 🤷‍♀️ What is important is that when you water, water by the base of the plant to soak that rock hard ball of roots, but also water well on the edges to attract roots OUTWARD outside of the ball. Roots naturally seek moist soil, that’s why it’s important to water all over the top of the pot to distribute it evenly.

      I just got a variegated Fiddle Leaf Fig in the mail today so I was researching their care. I'm not sure what's causing the brown edges, but one thing I learned from a Fiddle Leaf Fig group on fb is that double potting can cause problems. You could try taking it out of the decorative pot. Also, check out Professor Monstera. I followed a lot of his advice for Monsteras for my regular Fiddle Leaf Fig's and have had great success. He recommends Azos and ph Up or Ph down as needed. You could try checking the ph. Also using an indoor plant light for 12 hours a day may help along with a humidifier. One lady from the group recommends 12 hours of darkness in addition to the supplemental light. I also started adding mycorrhizae for 6 weeks til it's established. (not sure if that's the same as Azos or not). You might want to treat for spider mites too. I thought I saw some on the leaf. I use Ocean Forest soil and modify with Biochar, pumice and sand. I do a Superthrive root soak before potting. I also started using a moisture meter for water. I am not sure if you have the plant still but I was thinking maybe propogate the top and try starting over. Thanks for sharing and I hope yours is doing better! 🤗🪴✨

    I have several varieties of Aglaonema, & they are doing well. My only Aspidistra, however, has mostly browning leaves. I've had it for a year & a half. It sits below a high west window. I use a moisture meter to make sure I'm not over-watering. There is little new growth. It doesn't look good. I would discard it, but I had to send away for it & pay $30, so I'm not quite ready to give up on it.

    • @allhouseplants
      @allhouseplants 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hear you they aren’t cheap. I’m not super familiar with moisture meter use because I dont have one, but it does check deep into the pot, right? The bottom 1/4 of pots tend to hold a bit of water, even if you have drain holes, something about physics and water molecule properties. Anyway, my next ideas would be check it carefully for spider mites as they are prone. Also any drafts or house too cold? Last idea would be too much sun if it gets any intense afternoon sun from the window. Good luck, hope he pulls through! Oh, last last idea is too much fertilizer. They are very slow growing and don’t need much.

    • @williamlaine2116
      @williamlaine2116 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@allhouseplants Thank you for responding. Yes, the post on the moisture meter is 10-12" long. The plant sits below a high window, so direct sunlight does not reach it. I just checked for spider mites, but I don't see any mites or webs. I have been fertilizing once a month, along with my other plants. So far, I am only confirming my friend's opinion that Aspidistra are ugly.😒

      Sorry to hear, sounds like maybe the plant’s growth is being inhibited somehow…. 1. Is the soil evenly moist? Water if it’s dry. If it’s too wet, repot, or rough up the soil 4-6” down and put a small fan on it to dry it out. 2. Temperature- is it warm enough? At least 65 in the house? Plants are “cold-blooded” 3. Is it getting enough sun? Can’t make food without sun and water. Majesty palms love direct sun. 4. Humidity- want at least 40%. if air is too dry can keep palms and philodendrons from unfurling properly. Mist with spray bottle daily Is it root bound? Was it fertilized before winter? Now that it’s spring, maybe give it a little bit of fertilizer but go east for now. Good luck!!

      Yes, honestly I really struggled with mine too. I found them quite a bit more difficult to manage than regular FLF. I ended up selling it for less than half purchase price to someone local who had a greenhouse for it to live in. I would recommend you use a greenhouse or a plant cabinet if you can, with very bright indirect light, or direct morning sun.

    One of my majesty plams developed a bad case of scale insects. I never had this palm outdoors and none of the other plants in my house had scale insects. Therefore I assume the plant was infected when I bought it at the big box store. After using soap and water to attempt to kill the scale insects, I began using alcohol on a q-tip to kill each individual scale insect. I am not sure this palm is going to make it. So my cautionary tale is to make sure if you buy a majesty palm from a big box store, check it over very carefully for scale insects before you bring it home.
