This is Wanda. She's an R-body New Yorker from 1979 - which means she's kinda rare; especially in this shape and with the options she has. This is not meant to be serious. I'm just trying to have some fun and figure out how to edit audio/video on my Mac. Bonus pop-culture points to anyone who can name the song, band, and year of release for the background song. No cheating with the Google-nets,...

    I really love these R-Body cars made by Chrysler. It's a shame that you don't see too many of these anymore. 1979 was the year that Chrysler went almost out of business due to bankruptcy and that's when Lee Iacocca came along and served as President and CEO of Chrysler after being fired from Ford on July 13, 1978 after nearly 32 years of working for Ford.

      The ones with the 360 V8 are rarer; that engine was discontinued for 1981, leaving just the Slant Six and the 318 V8.

    ..my uncle had a '79 newport 4dr, 318, light gray, in AZ. i was likely going to buy it & drive it up to wi for a fun summer cruiser about 1990 with a 100k on it, super clean car..but some knucklehead hit him head on in a pickup & totalled it! R body was a great car.

    lol you named her good show my first car was just like your wanda minus the sun roof she had wire hub caps the very same color local body shop called it cream 1 and cream 2 hope that helps I called her Lisa 360 cu inch motor 2 barrel carb she gets about 25 mpg cruising a lot less if you have a heavy foot you will get even better miles out of her if you treat her to some Mavel Msyster oil in the gas with every fill up you may have to have the tranmission rebuilt some time in her life other wise maybe one starter and an altator that motor will not quit if you treat her right enjoy her

    If memory serves, this is the Champagne edition based on the two-tone paint scheme. Very nice piece of history here. I remember seeing one of these in a dealership in '79 and it suffered from so much of what almost bankrupted Chrysler - lousy quality. The seat tracks were loose on the driver's side and so many other clear examples of a bunch of assembly line workers who literally had zero interest in giving a darn. I love these cars, though. Very nice and thank you for sharing. Good job on the video, too!

    I just found and bought a '79..not a Fifth Ave. model but very nice with button tuft leather seats and 360 V-8..I tossed the 2 bbl carb and stock intake and had my mechanic install an Edelbrock 4 bbl and performance intake and duel exhaust with flowmasters..sounds wonderful! This is a car from Ark. and has 64,005 miles on her!The paint (brown) had faded from sitting out side but I know a guy that did a wonderful job of bringing her back inside and out..NO rust on this car ever! Going to be my everyday summer driver!By the way..I named her "Doris"...

      Frederick Landry 1981's are the most rare. Whether base New York or Fifth Ave. Because that was the last year for the R bodies.

    • @attkrlufy
      @attkrlufy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Goldenrod636 - Believe it or not, it's factory. There's a ton of super-rare options on this car; it's one of the reasons I purchased this particular car.

    • @klwthe3rd
      @klwthe3rd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      attkrlufy The two rarest options are the power sunroof and the steel wheels. They had a more expensive aluminum wheel option with trim rings your car doesnt have but you do have an optional wheel. Pretty much everything else on the Fifth Ave that year was standard. Cant tell in the video whether you have the optional 4 bbl carb on the 360. Another rare option.

    I literally grew up in one of these. same color and year as this with original spoke wheels. My father literally kept it till the doors wouldn't close anymore from rust. got rid of in back in 97 and ive missed it ever since. Especially the smell. She had an old car smell like no other. Now we have a mint condition 94 lhs.

    There was an 81 version of the New Yorker Fifth Ave in tu-tone Mahogany that was stunning. Too bad they weren't better built and better sellers.

    • @klwthe3rd
      @klwthe3rd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      IstvanN1961 Yes I in know that color combination. In 1981 there were 3 tu-tone color choices and 1 solid color for the Fifth Ave. The rarest is actually the one solid color, Midnight blue metallic. But my favorite was the tu-tone mahogany color treatment as well. In 1979 if you u ordered the New Yorker Fifth Ave you only had this tu-tone color treatment of cream over beige. Interior color was champagne. I should know I owned one.

    Back in the day, my Dad traded cars every year. He had Cordova's until 1980 and he bought a New Yorker Brougham, metallic Black with Ivory leather interior, fully loaded, save for a moon roof. Great sounding stereo with Dolby noise reduction on the cassette and auto reverse. He just LOVED that car, and drove it until it basically fell apart. I remember the day he brought it home. It had, like, 12 miles on it and had that beautiful "new car smell". I really like your '79, especially since it's a 2 tone paint. Why don't we have 2 tone cars anymore? They were really classy. Great car & great video.

    Comparable to a cadillac of the day. I see Chrysler kept that awful ugly slanted 70s dash on into the K cars & later acclaim/spirit. I guess they finally did a real redesign when they made the breeze-stratus 20+ yrs later! Shame on em.

  • @attkrlufy
    @attkrlufy 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not much, truthfully. It's the best - and worst - thing about these cars. If you find one in AMAZING condition (a 2+, or 1-) it'll be worth, at most, $5K. Maybe $6K if it's super low miles. And prices just go down from there. But to love these cars is to do it more more than just money. ;)
