FLL 6361 TechnoBots Practice 475 Point Attempt
This is FLL team 6361 Technobos during one of our practices. Please keep in mind this is a practice and we are aware of some things such as before we launch the climbing ramp program the jig was not in home. We've been practicing to achieve all the runs in under 2:30 seconds. This was the last practice of the night. Sometimes they score all 3 blocks in the tree and sometimes 2 of them fall. We accidentally forgot 1 peg on the elevator attachment and so they didnt score that, normally that is one of their most consistent missions. We have been working on the tree program to try and make 3 blocks more reliable. In this video they score 425 points but attempt 475. We have scored 475 points many practices but just not any I videotaped. I'll post a video of all 475 next practice. The robot does lift both flags on top of the ramp we just don't have that piece on so the robot doesnt drive off and fall to the floor. Feel free to ask any questions. Points are below.
Small inspection space= +5 per mission scored
Elevated Places= 55
(both flags 30pts + robot supported by ramp 20pts + 5 bonus for small space)
Crane mission= 30
(Blue unit is lowered 20pts + 10 bonus for small inspection area)

Design and Build= 140pts
(5pts per level. 10pts per color matching.
We have 21 levels and all 3 color matching.
21 levels 105pts + color matching 30pts + 5 bonus for small inspection)

I can not find part 2 and part 3 videos you mentioned in this video. Are they posted?
I have not made part 2 yet. I planned to continue this series shortly. Did you have any questions about line following?
I wanted to know if using reflected light for line following is more accurate or is reading color more accurate? Which one do you recommend for the actual competition
@@vkm20 reflected light is probably a better option to go with in my personal opinion. However if you use reflected light mode then you will most likely need to adjust the morning of competition.
Nate Simpkins thank you!
If wanting to turn faster Which part must be adjusted
You could gain just a few secs at 2:08 by pulling you arm while moving
Do you have a build of your robot. Also I only see one dog gear, where is the other one?
I see only 2 medium motors, and one dog gear. You said there was 4. Could you do like a video about your robot, and how your guys' attachments work?
how many motors do you guys use
4 large motors
how does the attchment at 1:53 where it picks up the astronaut and drops the ball wokr?
The hook that grabs the astronaut and the Ramp to the fall as re both attached to a latch. When the rack comes inward it presses the latch on the space module mission and activates both

Are you going to the world championship in Houston TX?
Could you do a full run of your FLL robot?
Funny! I actually came up with an idea to lock the solar panels at the very beginning of the year, and we are about to go to the world championships in Houston! We are actually working on that right now!

Next time please don’t spend 3 min on rambling
I feel like they rigged our competition. We got 148 points 2nd in robot game 3rd in project and 5th in core values. They pick 5 people for regionals but we did not get picked. A team that had 20 points got picked, which isn't fair at all!
To start off, congratulations on 2nd place in robot game. Hm the event rules state that teams must be in top 75% robot game scores to advance. How did you know your individual placement in the judging rooms?
@@natesimpkins4875 We knew basically every team there, and we compared our score sheets.
And the team with 20 points, I think got 4th place robot game
@@ritamr2690 being involved in judging and behind the scenes in past competitions I can say comparing sheets is not a viable way to measure your rank. To my I'm knowledge the judges here in New Jersey do rank teams individually. With that said its possible your rank may not have been what your team observed it to be. That's just my guess on what may have happened. I'm sorry you didn't advance ,but you guys still scored higher then us in robot! Goodluck next season and if you have any questions feel free to comment.
@@natesimpkins4875 We only had 148 points you guys had a chance to score more.
Ripple Effect: Right. The first missions in the challenge tend to be "collector" missions which harvest items for use in later missions. If the collection fails, subsequent missions that rely on collected items are compromised. That makes these first missions the most critical. Solar panel: I know exactly what you're talking about, but here's an alternative view. If one team places an obstruction on their mat (a panel holder in this case) that prevents another team from performing a mission, some judges may rule that this is interference, and grant points to the team that was unable to complete the mission. I've already heard this concern voiced in the competition in which I was a judge. The attempt to place the device failed, but the team was cautioned by another judge that the approach might be questionable. In the competition(s) you've seen this year, have you seen any teams use this approach? I have a removable arm on my final mission to push the oposite array in the final seconds. If the other team has already pushed both solar panels towards me (or it appears they might) I can remove the arm. Yes, the other team scores a 22 point bonus that way, but if both teams push each other's arrays then nobody scores. If the other team had some sort of blocking device on their array but failed to move 'my' array, the force of my robot pushing against the opposite array might very well be able to overcome the holding device and move the array anyway. If it didn't, I would contest the result by saying that the other team's effort to block my robot is out of character with the core value of coopertition. U04 - SOLAR PANEL ACCESS 7 October 2018 Your Robot is free and expected to switch the position of any Solar Panel at any time. If the other team obstructs their panel, they are preventing your robot from "free" access. I note your team does not currently employ a holding device on the array. You might want to send a note to FLL and ask for a rule clarification.
In the solar panel mission there is no interpherence penalty unless you interfere within the walls of their board. (I was at a reception s few weeks ago and spoke to the game designers about this specifically.) They updated the mission rules I believe actually to where it states that.
No such update, not yet anyway. Seriously, you should get something in writing. R16 - INTERFERENCE • You are not allowed to negatively affect the other team except as described in a Mission. • Missions the other team tries but fails because of illegal action by you or your Robot will count for them. A judge might rule against a team deploying an item negatively affecting the other team.
@@hydrogenhead The updates state rule R16 is not a issue in this mission.
I am simply playing devil's advocate. The rules do not define this situation and a judge could rule either way, leaving one team on the losing end. It would be a pity for the losing team to be yours.
@@hydrogenhead Thank you still for pointing this out. If we did ever get put in this situation the students would argue that although the rules don't state this example directly, they do state R16 is not a issue.
great vid it was actually 11.59 seconds :(
As soon as the robot enters base the kids can grab it. They don't have to wait for the robot to stop. That's why I labeled it 10 seconds. Also I was measuring from when the robot started moving vs when it was fully in base.
What gives force to the car to drive?
Rubber bands
Good job. But I think M04 is wrong. Everything that touch the crater need to go through.
That is incorrect, the rule update specifies this.
Hi.. How to make line squaring?
Hi! Yes I can make a video on that

And btw shouldnt you get 110pts for this run? 26 for core samples 8 for the ball 16 for the habitation hub 16 for the cone module 22 for escape velocity 22 for observatory? Or mybe you dont count the gas in base becouse you will move it out of base later?
Observatory is 20 points for orange according to the app.
@@natesimpkins4875 ah ok espace velocity is 24 pts and observatory is 20 i knew they together give 44 so i tought that they are both 22 :)
You could extract the docing module fairly simply you just need something to go under it that has a slope and push it out...
I thought it would be a PID
I didn't make a proportional because if your robot is getting drift typically that is minor and a PID is way overkill and could even make it worse. This method is much more reliable, smooth, and easy to tune. I can make a proportional one but that would only be used if you have a but amount of resistance on 1 side from like a attachment or something. For general use my team has used this one for years.
it turns to the left and we have tried many programs it may be something wrong with the motors, but we are a poor team so we cant afford another one

Why are you not using the negative side of the switch ?
Can you expand on this question? I'm having trouble understanding.
@@natesimpkins4875 Your switch has a true and a false side. When X is less than 0 you go on the true side then why do you check again if the X is less then 0 and go on the true side again. Can`t you just put one of them as false ? if X > 0 you go on the true side of the switch if not you go on the false. The way you have done it just makes it more complex and time consuming
@@vlad4331 I did think about that, however then if someone accidentally typed in a 0 it may turn to the one side that is false. By splitting it into true only you can rule out the 0 by making #>0 or #<0 and do nothing if a 0 is put in.
It may have worked fine to do it that way too. I just didn't feel like testing it because I knew this method would work because it would rule out the 0 value.
@@natesimpkins4875 you include the compare statement and then another switch in the original false switch statement. So original switch states: If "TurnAngle" > 0 = true - do stuff, Else false; [New Switch] If "TurnAngle" < 0 = true - do stuff Else false; do nothing
