F-Zero X Expansion Kit Master Strategies (TAS)
Tool-assisted demo of a close to perfect execution of the fastest RTA viable strategies for the F-Zero X Expansion Kit tracks. This video is to show what I think is possible for a human in RTA and to show what the theoretical limits are.
Not all of the strategies are fully implemented in WR runs (yet) but I believe they are at least possible.
Faster strategies are possible on every track but I do not think they are RTA viable from what I know today.

Nice run with the shortcut on lap 1. My consistency with the shortcut is still quite low but I guess for any further improvement doing the shotcut on more than 1 lap is the way to go.

The most consistent strategy I have found it to be very slow on lap 1 on purpose to farm an S-boost. S-boosts are extremely powerful on this track. Ideally you'd want one in lap 2 and then just go all out and stay away. I played very conservatively but some more boosting would have saved a few more seconds here and could be needed with tougher competition.

This tracks lends itself very well to the Fire Stingray. You basically really want to get away quickly and then just drive tight corners. Lap 4 can be very dangerous with blue and red bumpers. I got a bit careless at the end but since I had so much energy anyway it didn't matter.

This is a very conservative strategy that brings consistency at least for me. The start of the race is always dangerous in the mines section and at the jump. I use the boost late after the chicane to wall bounce and align towards the finish line at full speed. This is not the fastest way to do it but it's easier. Exactly the same strategy as Mute City I. In contrast to my Mute City I video I show the "farm an S-boost in lap 1" strategy. In some lucky scenario's you will have it in lap 1 already otherwise use regular boost in lap 1 and use it in lap 2. Cutting the last hairpin helps a lot. In my first experience this track is a little harder than Red Canyon I to front run. It really helps to get ahead as early as possible. The red bumpers at the end can be pretty tough so I just took it safe in this run. This was one of my first races ever on the track since it only released today. Getting all boosts is pretty much required here, especially on the first lap. A good start helps because I don't find the skyway that helpful as a backup plan.

Usually, the strategy is to farm S-boost in lap 1 but in this race I stayed near the front. Cutting the last hairpin is almost required with Stingray.

The other startgrid with the mines is faster and a bit easier to get to the front with. Clean driving and taking the shortcut sharp is key here and will get you to the front regardless. The hairpin turn with ice can be a nightmare with Blue Bumper spawns.

This race is usually not a problem due to only 20 players being on it. Energy can be tight so any KO's during the GP will greatly help make things easier.

A very difficult lap 4 on this one depending on the blue bumper situation. A good start helps but it's also viable to farm S-boost and take the shortcut in the magnet section to get ahead in lap 2. Once you are ahead it's all about dodging.

A difficult track to front run. The start is crucial as well as not missing any dash plates. If you start on the right side and have to go against the wind it's an uphill battle. Especially if there are no dashplates on the runway.

The utilization of boost while in the air is insane... Makes mario kart skips look weak lol
the double tap turning section confuses me, I just started playing this game, so I'm definitely missing something, but to me it doesn't even look like you're using side attack? whenever I try this my machine instantly slides 5 miles to the side usually into a wall, and the red glow effect is absent in the video what am I missing? I'm using the switch's n64 emulator if it makes a difference
By far the hardest and best reward . Light Soul makes the Shadowgun premanently shoot level 10 shots without a charge , and improves ALL voodoo weapons too. . I recommend getting Patch 1.5 now , since its stable version with Tons of great fixes and improvements. Plus the silly Tete De Mort pink shooter gun ... same pink shots as Trueforms fires.
This game always gave a sinister feelings, when I would play it. I don't know how to explain it! But just a disturbing feeling.
I'm breaking grip even when I try to make easy turns doing strategy one, what's going on? I have an original N64 controller hooked via a raphnet adapter and I can't match your movements or I suddenly slide.
Probably a loose stick. You have to have a good stick for this game unfortunately. You can turn much more sharply with an original stick than say a Switch controller.
The problem I have is I lose grip after the big drift when I try to adjust for the dirt patches, the car is already going very fast so it wants to slide, and I basically lose all my speed for the double hairpins.
..... That's insane.
Hmm I went there and there's no bear. Did they move it, or are there requirements that have to be met first?
These videos were recorded on the original release but since there have been many patches in which they moved some of these

Despite my retirement from this series, I'm always happy to see my favorite F-Zero game get the TAS treatment. Long live F-Zero X.
Hello Wouter. Thank you very much for that very nice video. Some pretty sweet moments. I really like the air control before sliding on BB3, slight but efficient way to took that turn. The FF2 run is very impressive, I dig the DF4 run too. Overall even if not fully optimised still very good TAS runs, sharp driving but indeed close to what a human can do, it was a pleasure to watch anyway. I hoped a bit more on SO3 but I understand that loop skip and other tricks are hardly possible for a human to pull off even on a rare basis. On BF, I think you're best lap is too close to mine witch includes mistakes. I remember my goal being at 1:22:00 so I that think a 1:20:00 is possible for a top player using this strat or a close one, I think you could push a little more on this one. I'm glad that you're still playing F-Zero X, one way or another. BTW it was nice to race against you a few times in FZ 99 ^^
Thanks! Yeah the goal was to make the strategies not too crazy so they would be possible. On Big Foot I really tried but I couldn't find much time to save. I think your final lap is just really good in that run.
The precision, muscle memory and reaction times are insane for F-Zero X Speedrunning, at least to an outsider like me. These may be TAS's but damn.... Pure Madness, but I guess thats what F-Zero is about for me! Stay safe yall and thank you WMJ for the showcase!
Excellent! Especially, I'm surprised to watch Space Plant 2 jumping strategy. But I have a question. Why did you select 1500kg custom ship at Devil's Forest 4? I think this track requires turn ability and uses ACIDTD, so it seems to be faster by selecting 780kg one
780kg is better for the floating part. When I started the track I didn't know if it would be possible and then it was too late to redo it. If you try this strategy definitely go with a 780kg ship because it's much easier to get airborne.

My autistic brain couldn’t handle certain parts of the information provided with certain sections, I didn’t think simply explaining settings and grip would have me more lost than before. Regardless. Still helpful in certain spots for me.
