Oh man....I am so screwed with this f'ing disease

I am 74 and have had Parkinson's for almost 12 years (tremor dominant type). I got DBS 4 yrs ago and it has been very beneficial. I only take 1 1/2 to 2 carbidopa/levodopa pills daily plus 3 pramipexole and one rasagiline. I try to eat healthy although I do have a tendency to snack too much before bedtime. I don't sleep as well or as long as I should. I have noticed some slowing in my gait recently likely partially due PD and partially to old injuries. I try to exercise 6 days a week alternating between cardio and strength training. I try not to get depressed about PD and instead take it as a challenge. Look for alternative therapies such as nicotine patches which can help with symptoms and are also neuroprotective. My background is in Neuroscience and I research constantly and take online college level courses to keep up to date. I also work on balance. I am still able to do my hobbies which include mountain biking , dirt biking and street motorcycles. I used to race motorcycles hence some of the injuries noted earlier. My neurologist says I am healthier and more active than most 74 year olds including those that don't have PD. I hope this helps someone. Don't accept defeat. I am no expert but truly believe that the three most important things you can do to fight this disease are Exercise, Exercise and yeah Exercise.

I suffer from a speech problem that is not diagnosed properly. I have the worst stutter imaginable. I am a virtual dummy and I can’t write either. I have done the Silverman therapy but it didn’t help. I am at a loss of what to do.

My name is David a Olsen. I’ve been diagnosed with Parkinson disease since 2017. My doctor has recommended DBS treatment for my Parkinson’s. My children think that brain surgery is going a little too far. I’ve been recently told about another procedure called Duval. Is that viable option where it gives you the medicine and you don’t have to take it orally it’s given directly to the intestine. Is that a better option and does it control the tremors and the involuntary movements, thank you for any help you can give me with this because I’m so confused on what to do thanks again for your video. Dont fall for the media hype. This surgery ruined by fathers life. He lost his speech, walking ability after DBS. Entire DBS had to be removed after 5 years because he caught an infection during battery replacement and he has been bed ridden since as they determined its too risky to put it back. He flew to the surgery on his own.

Thank you for this very informative video. If you may, I would like to ask you about a condition my wife faces after her DBS surgery two weeks ago. Actually since she has had this surgery she has felt a "pulling and tightness" on the right side of her head. It is also uncomfortable when she bows her head down and turns it from side to side. Is this the result of "bowstringing?" I have read the very little information there is online about this condition and I don't think she wants to live with these conditions for much longer. We are seeing our neurosurgeon today for the two week follow up. Thank you so much for any information you can give us.
