      @@vgames9207 To make things simple, the Blockmap is what does the collision checks in the game (basically a grid across the whole map). It exists to greatly speed up collision checks, but its very imprecise and janky. Its too hard for me to explain in short, so i suggest looking up a video on how it works.

      The balancing between the SSG and Shotgun in Doom 2 is at least not as bad as in Quake 2 where they for some reason made the Super Shotgun shoot faster than the regular one. Also spoilers but i unfortunately will not be playing through any secret level due to a massive lack of knowledge of these maps in my case, although it would have been interesting to try out.

      @wariofan-wq6fr Even if you don't play them on the channel, I'd strongly suggest you play them. They're very fun, especially MAP32, and, once you have a good route, they're not as hard as you'd think.

      Probably either WMD -fast (the hardest fully implimented difficulty on Steam and accessible by typing -fast in launch parameters) or Hardcore! (essentially nightmare on DOOM or DOOM II and exclusive to certain source ports). Both are totally beatable, even from pistol starts, but hardcore definitely takes some grinding and favorable rng.

    Think the missed projectiles have to do with blockmap bug. Gist is, there's a grid comprised of blocks that are 128×128 map units and, if an entity's origin is in one block but overlaps another, the portion that overlaps the other block won't have proper collision detection. It's worse in this game than other doom games because they at least had separate checks for projectiles that don't seem to be present here (don't recall exactly how this works), but hitscan is still fully affected by blockmap bug in both Doom 64 and other games.

      Interesting, that would also explain why they made Doom Guy move slower in this game, they problably did that as compensation. Im assuming the worse projectile detection is possibly an attempt to have the game be less taxing on the N64's systems? It would make sense considering they already got rid of alot of the Doom 2 enemies and made the maps smaller.

      @@wariofan-wq6fr Most likely this is for performance reasons. A fellow doomtuber named Coincident does an excellent video that goes more in depth, albeit specifically for Doom/Doom II. The slower movement in 64 is unrelated I'm pretty sure, it's just because the game runs at 30 frames per second as opposed to 35, and the speed per frame is kept the same.

      The remaining parts (including The Lost Levels since the re-release included an easy way to just start them in the main menu) were already recorded a while back, its just a matter of how much i procrastinate on actually uploading them and writing commentary for them.     That "don't try to walk under flying enemies" advice is even more important for pain elementals, their lost souls explode if they're blocked from spawning by a wall or entity. This can deal up to 128 damage per lost soul. Also, you had a bunch of rockets to kill things with, the autoswitch just went to the chainsaw instead of rocket launcher.

    at 4:15, those doors open if you shoot through the cage with gibs in it with a hitscan weapon. IIRC, there are switches in there that grant access to an invulnerability and a megasphere.
