    • @camaroboy1968ss
      @camaroboy1968ss ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe, but the amount of bodywork the box needed, it was not worth it. Pictures never really showed how bad it was. A forklift had hit it on one side and buckled both layers of the side. That hit also then dropped the load into the bed and just made a mess of the floor and tubs. Plus to me short beds are better than a long bed. I drove the truck as a long box for a bit and was tired of it.

    Would you say the comp cams grind is an improvement over the solid 30-30?

    • @camaroboy1968ss
      @camaroboy1968ss ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say. Ive never had a true 30-30 cam to compare it too, but I know these Nostalgia+ cams have been refined over the old GM design to be a "better" cam. The cam is a very streetable camshaft with a manual transmission. It would need a decent stall for an automatic.

    • @camaroboy1968ss
      @camaroboy1968ss ปีที่แล้ว

      It woke the 327 up, got alot more "talk" at idle but once you wind it up to 3-4k it really gets with the program even with the manifolds. the L79 cam woke up a little earlier than this cam but kind of then flatlined. Where this cam in the butt dyno just keeps pulling.

      depends on what your goals are. If your wanting to go the full restoration route. Then start pulling the truck apart in sections, take pictures of how things come apart so you can reference later on when putting it back together. Bag nuts/bolts/screws and tag what they are for. There is alot of unique hardware used through out and some it not reproduced so best to save it all for when you put the truck together again. If your wanting to just get up and driving, tackle any leaks, do a complete fluid change of everything, maybe redo the brakes and replace any rubber fuel line or brake line as that stuff rots out from sitting. It all kind of depends on what your wanting to do. I drove this truck for a year before I tore into it and did the full restoration while I planned things out.

    We just rebuilt an actual 1969 350 out of a Factory Original SS Chevelle and installed the original Duntov 30/30 grind Cam back instead of the roller hyd cam that someone had installed in this true Gem of an Engine we found in a Salvage Yard Engine Building. We knew exactly what this little 350 was when we pulled the matching numbers off the Cylinder Heads and Block, it still even had the correct GM intake on it yet ! But anyway I digress, we took extra caution to restore this engine as absolutely close to factory original as was humanly possible and only had to give it a good bead hone and a slight oversize ring pkg, all new bearings, and the right cam and solid lifters and ran it in on our run stand.....it's amazing just how sweet one of those engines sounds with the right parts and pieces in and on them.

    Brother I have a 1970 C10 same color. Rebuilding the original 350. It has the SM456 4 speed big truck transmission, short length case. Coil springs, and an intermediate driveshaft support bearing. Do you have pictures or info. on the underside of how you did yours? The 465 is not a slip yoke, so I have to keep the intermediate slip bearing and 2-piece driveshaft. Will have to shorten the front drive shaft to fit the M21. Any pictures of info of your driveline build would help a lot! Beautiful truck!

    • @camaroboy1968ss
      @camaroboy1968ss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well when I cut the truck down from a long bed to short bed, I ditched the 2 piece driveshaft and went to a 1 piece unit and dumped that carrier bearing. With that I then made it a slip yolk as it was in the Chevelle the transmission it came out of. If you are just swapping the 465 for a car muncie 4 speed, you will need to shorten the front piece. I am not sure if the output shaft splines are the same between the 465 and car muncie's so that could be an issue as well.

    • @markjohnson9495
      @markjohnson9495 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@camaroboy1968ss gotcha. I must retain the center bearing so the coils will swing the length of the rear shaft in and out correctly since I am keeping the long wheelbase. Both transmissions use the same length 10 spline input I believe, but a 26 spline like a T5 has will also work. I was thinking to throw it in, shorten the front shaft, and use the Muncie slip yoke on the front, it just wouldn't slide anymore. Just haven't seen this exact swap done before.

    • @camaroboy1968ss
      @camaroboy1968ss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markjohnson9495 yeah just shorten the front shaft. I would double check and make sure both yolks are the same length. I never did check that. Only other time I have dealt with a 2 piece drive shaft where the yolk was non slip at the trans was a T10 4 speed out of a Buick and its yolk was much shorter, so you would need to cut down a bit more on the drive shaft so that the slip yolk for the muncie is not bottoming out. As long as there is a big of gap at end, you should be fine.

    Do you know the difference between the z28 and this?

    • @camaroboy1968ss
      @camaroboy1968ss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the biggest thing that was different between them was the Z/28 had the 302ci small block V8. That motor was only available with the Z/28 option. All Z/28's in 1968 are 4 speed cars, if you wanted an auto you could not get a Z/28 from the dealer. Also all Z/28's were coupes for actual production (1 prototype convertible was made). Other differences were various suspension components. The Z/28 had different leaf and coil springs that were set at a different spring rate. Also Z/28's originally were the only Camaro offered in 1968 with 15 inch diameter wheels. All other Camaros (including super sports) had 14 inch. The wheels on my 68 are off a 69 Z/28 Camaro as they are 15x7. 68 Z/28 wheels would have been 15x6.
