the biggest experiment in mainstream cinema
We rarely get big budget experimental filmmaking, but Robert Zemeckis' latest film Here is a film shot entirely in one fixed perspective. The camera never moves. And it is fascinating

Let's clarify here: There are two different things being talked about, the Monolith and the aliens which would have been seen observing Bowman in the hotel room after the stargate sequence. In the original short story, the monolith was a crystal tetrahedron, basically a 4 sided pyramid. When the Clark and Kubrick began to develop the 2001 book and screenplay together, it was altered to a crystal rectangle, and later refined to the mat-black structure we see in the movie. As for the actual aliens who left the monolith behind, Kubrick and his wife came up with several designs for alien creatures, including one where an actor wore a bunch of white dots on a form fitting suit and they planned to key out the body so that it was a being composed of thousands of points of light. Kubrick was set to include an alien almost to the point of the time to shoot the sequence, and finally decided to let the viewers imagination fill in the blank by excluding the aliens altogether, save for their incomprehensible chatter.
we are dancing like that in a show on April tbh
And they release the films on digital waaaaay before it comes to theathers, so I end up not seeing those films in theaters. For example, ive watched anora on my laptop on the beggining of december and its only coming to any movie theather near me in the 23rd of January, so why would I wait to see it in theathers when its already available all over the Internet? I think its kinda of a dumb strategy and make them lose a lot of money
I do wonder what the financial repercussions are but I guess it must overall be worth it for them since they keep doing it

I thought movie posters were designed to pique an interest in the movies. These did nothing but make me want to avoid them even more!
As far as I know, Fincher was only supposed to produce The Goon. One of the slated directors was Tim Miller, who later did Deadpool and developed Love, Death and Robots with Fincher. So, they eventually did work on an animated project together.
Ellen Kane deserves the most credit in my opinion. She choreographed the movie and served as the "movement director", training, managing, and directing over 200 children and teen dancers, actors, acrobats, and gymnasts!
good but the bouncy music
Lanky boii
honestly that scene sounds like it would’ve been so distracting
I have made a list of my unborn children and ranked them from best to worst
I’m really curious about when Fincher was approached for episode IX, specifically whether it was before Colin Trevarrow had signed on originally or after he left the project - I would’ve loved to see how he’d follow up from TLJ (my fav)
Watched the film the second time. Its getting better and better. Last time i felt this about a movie was with the Lord-of-the-rings-trilogy.
The movie is sooooo slow
It's unsettling in a profound way. It is the opposite of a cheap thrill.
Well said
Now people who say they love science fiction hate 2001 because it hasn't got lasers or a cute talking furball.
Reminds me of what I see in the science fiction section in bookstores. Not future tech and science, but rather a bunch of fantasy crap showcasing dragons and unicorns.
I cant blame Tarantino, Hong Kong movies are really that good tbh 😂😂😂
I loved Nosferatu (2024), much like I also love the original 1922 version (and the 1979 one too). As you said, it was so well cast, with everyone playing their part to perfection. And there were many nods in the film to the original even though none were really showy. And the shadow of Nosferatu's hands covering Wisborg were straight from Murnau's Faust, which I really loved. Definitely hope to see it again in a cinema, hopefully in IMAX.
I just left the theater and while it’s still fresh in my mind, may I just say how gorgeous and unnerving it was to see. Outstanding performances all around. Every expression of total and utter dread felt almost too real. I appreciated the minimal use of quicks cuts since it helped me feel almost as if I was actually there with the characters. Exceptional use of lighting and shadows especially when there’s a blanket of pure darkness around the Count but you can just barely make out an outline. Every aspect of this film felt intentional and I was in awe the entire time. As mentioned in the video there were a few scenes that felt a little drawn out but in my opinion, not enough to take away the immersion. So much time and passion went into the making this film and it shows.
This movie for me is a pure masterpiece. Not 10/10 but millions/millions!!!!! This movie has a special place in my ❤️ I can’t wait to pre order it and watch it every day
What’d you love about it?
@ in one word: EVERYTHING! It just some people can’t appreciate art. They can’t enjoy the movie, they have to criticize it and find everything that makes the movie bad
People need to shut the feck up about "nepo babies". Jeff Bridges is a "nepo baby". Michael Douglas is a "nepo baby". People only seem to be obsessing over the up-and-coming actors who have family in the trade though. Nepotism isn't a new thing, it has affected every industry since the beginning of time and quite rightly so. Why wouldn't you help your kids get into the family business, whether that be acting, plumbing or bear-wrestling? Worry about your own damn life, cos right now your jealousy is showing. Great review, it's an excellent film and a perfect update to a pair of classics. Subscribed.
I could say a lot about this movie, but I'll mention the fact that it's a more than 100-years old story remade from a more than 100-year old film, about vampires,ie the most overdone and "domesticated" supernatural being, and it actually scared me, nay, not scared, *horrified* me. That is an achievement. Such a cathartic, exhilarating experience this movie,Eggers is a true 4/4 for me. Also I wanna say, people who say Bill Skarsgard was unremarkable because "he could have been anyone".....trust me, if it'd been anyone else, you'd be feeling the difference. That *timber* ....
The voice he did was amazing
The only thing more alien to humans is to find humans like us on another planet
Just saw it for the second time. Eggers cement his status. Script is awesome. Shoutout to the actor that played the doctor I thought did an awesome job
Ralph Ineson, he's fantastic. Amazing acting in The VVitch too, along with Kate Dickie.
Ralph ineson’s always a standout in everything hes In. Great actor
That movie was great except for cady, she sucked
I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago and have watched every video since then. I absolutely love your commentary and no-bs approach. No dumb intro music of obnoxious led tube lights in the background - just intelligent film criticism. Your channel should have way more views, which I'm sure it will in time. Keep it up!
You’ve made my day. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Honestly it's garbage to me. I just didn't want to see a musical and them singing every 10 seconds making it a woke version..
Muppet Christmas Carol is honestly one of the best movies. It seems so underrated that no one talks about it and its grace. The songs are although really good and heartwarming, although some can be very hard to take in for Scrooge. The first song Scrooge tells about how mean and hurtful he really is. At the end he really learns how to be grateful and caring from the 3 spirits past, present, and future. Although, technically 4 includes Marley and Marley. This movie is just heart melting. ❤️ 😊
I love Shelly
Carl Sagan helped him arrive to this conclusion too. The most crushing feeling is the fear of the unknown.
Carl Sagan was the one who cinched Kubrick’s decision.
I love the fact that the aliens were never seen, it left it up to your imagination what they might have looked like
Jack Nicholson
The footage was sped up to make it look more spectacular, you can see it
rachel’s is better for a movie but renee’s is better for a musical (i believe she was also regina on broadway at some point) i can easily say renee rapp was one of the only good parts of this remake
this is garbage. like, why? no one 🦆ing asked for this. go remake she hulk.
Can we talk about how terrible Kady heron played by Angourie Rice was Renée was great, Janice brought the story to life
I am a big fan of the original I agree Renee rap brought a lot of energy Damien was good Janice was really great Angourie Rice as Kady heron was a disaster she ruined the movie!! and had all the charisma and singing ability of a wet bathmat.
I saw some people talking about how Renée’s performance was “wrong” because she didn’t play Regina the way Rachel McAdams did and that was a bad thing. But we already have Rachel McAdams’ version and nobody would be able to perfectly imitate that so I think it’s better that they tried something different in the remake.
I think what did it the most accurate was the Disney Jim Carrey animated version because they still speak in older English, but muppets brings some joy into it which I think is a great choice for families compared to the original darker story
We need Renee in Heather Chandler role
It was not a REMAKE...its the broadway musical adaptation
Love this movie! My family and I watch it as a tradition every Christmas - and is probably one of many pieces of media that has gotten me into Gothic stuff! ^^
I don't think they were strangers but quite common faces seen there, wasn't def their first meet. Also Manjrekar & Sanjay knew eachother from outside due to their line of work, I think Sunil too. This was the first time them thinking to pull something off like this & I think Police was always suspicious of it especially for Sanjay's character who always had a knack, bone to pick for this
Kurosawa used multiple cameras, and it worked well for him. Scott is one of the very best directors in the world. The problem is one of having a lack of good scripts to work with. And Hollywood is an industry/elitist club where decisions are made for political reasons rather than artistic reasons. So, if you don't like his films. Get the man some good scripts-start writing. I know Scott and it is not his fault that the good scripts he needs are not available to him.
“Hello London!!!” “Goodbye lunch!!!”
If you watch the movie, the shoes that Elphaba picks up during the song popular are actually the Ruby red slippers. I know they’re not allowed to use it for the movie, but I am guessing that was a little Easter egg because she was literally the one who picked it up not Glenda.
