This is actually the 1989-90 season and April 1990 in particular (especially as Nick Powell on voiceover cites Buster Douglas v Mike Tyson, Crystal Palace v Liverpool (the FA Cup semi-final) and Mr Frisk (the horse which won the Grand National a week or so earlier)).

Highlights or not, this is one of the best games of RL I have ever seen.! When RL was the greatest team sport on the planet.

late bal numapo was the rugby league king in the 1980s right from ssy village league to highlands zone and made it to kumul. around that time nrl premier star was curtrburry bull dogs tried his to NRL as he was deemed to be the world best center due to knee injury in nrl hrs return home and hang his boots..

They were legends then but it seems like the players were plugged directly out from respective village leagues to represent PNG. Even the Lions as well. No quality and structure in the 80s.

They are all in white bar black shorts on one side, so must get confusing for the officials in the melees to work out decisions.

Its hard not to get ridiculously sentimental about games like this. A good sprinkling of legends in traditional kits, all plying their trade on proud Swinton 's great old ground. 😊
