Unique Way To Make A Yard Productive (Ultra Low Maintenance)
This mow-able row maintenance strategy can assist in making a yard or field more productive.
-Include diversity to reduce pest pressure on your plants.
-Work with plant communities that thrive together in your region. Blueberries need too many amendments here, so we went with honeyberries for example.
-Be sure to incorporate edible flowers to have things look beautiful in their season ;)
-Consider getting a European Scythe from Scythe Supply in Maine to maintain the rows without a mower
Resources:
For whole yard redos, look up Mike Hoag's work, James Prigioni, Parkrose Permaculture, or Back to Eden Gardening.
For doing this stuff at scale, look into Mark Shepard's work with New Forest Farm, or Stefan Sobkowiak's The Permaculture Orchard.

Why I NEVER Irrigate (Hot & Dry Yet Productive)
มุมมอง 1.2K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
In a world which abuses its water resources, let's look at practical examples of growing food in abundance without irrigation infrastructure. We're classified Semi Arid Tropics with strong tropical storms in the wet season, then pronounced dry spells with hot, drying sun. To make matters worse, our soil is a rocky, sandy, silt mix that cannot support ponds or standing water. Regardless, we use ...

    Very good video ! I have also this device at home and ... I exactly made the same mistake when starting it 😂 I can tell you I have wonderful neighbors (yes it's possible even in Switzerland) because the odor was ... how to say... terrible when I had to drain it to restart. But anyway, I confirm it's a great product and it works very well. Just an advice if you leave in a cold country like me, insulate your system as much as possible when you install it, it's not a detail, it's very very important.

      @@sinorlando for sure, when connecting the toilet I had to take the pipe with me to the store to physically measure it against the pipes there. I'm no expert, but what I bought was a 2" pipe, but some pipes that were labeled 2"s didn't fit. No idea why, but I'm not a professional

    What zone are you in? I am in zone 9b and we have clay soil. Can I grow peppermint ( in the ground ) in clay soil? If not, What type of soil do you recommend?

    • @Yachanantheavenger
      @Yachanantheavenger 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Same zone, same soil. The great thing about growing mint in clay is that it spreads slowly and helps break up the clay. Much easier to manage. Good luck.

    • @frenchiepowell

    Some labels have a plastic film covering the paper that has to be removed then, the water can penetrate the label. I soften the paper and then use either a cloth, razor, or SOS pad and the paper comes off quite easily. I almost never have to scrub very hard! Some labels I spray with WD40, let it set for a bit and then use a scrubber, a few drops of DAWN and then scrub! Sometimes I just have to resort to good old fashioned elbow grease! K think they all should be required to print quick fixes on their labels and use the same type of glue on all brands.

    I have been using this method for 2 years and have seen a few people have success with it mostly "David the good" grocery row garden:] I do have a tweek for you as well I like to heavily mulch the sides of the rows with hay and whatever I can find then cutting it when it grow's big and repeating the mulching process. This step helps control the weeds but mostly control the looks I get from people when they look at my garden hehe.

    • @frenchiepowell
      @frenchiepowell หลายเดือนก่อน

      😆 I love it! Keep up the great work! In the lawn section, not the field, I occasionally cut the weeds around establishing plants and make a mulch circle, most lawn clippings I get with my scythe and up in my veggie garden, so the rows are left to fend for themselves haha

  • @corymiller9854

    Good job! This is so true and been trying this method for a few years. I use compost teas other then this method but unsure if it is even needed now. My new garden is to big to buy fertilizer so have been using what I can and seems this is a better style:]

    Looks good, I look forward to seeing it in 5 years. My hedgerows are among the plantings that I'm most pleased with on my site, I have planted several at various spacings over the years. Getting a bagging lawn mower also totally changed my views of mowing after over a decade of just "mulching in place" where most of the fertility just oxidized into the air, now I have a load of fertile mulch to dump around my woody perennials every few minutes, which further helps suppress the grass in the rows.

    With urine, my parents had the best garden in the neighborhood. Everything was growing. The key with urine is to collect it and let it sit for several days. Once the smell is gone, you can use it straight up. You can also dilute it with water.

    My grandparents- farmers/ used cow and horse manure but also secret ingredient- urine mixed one to ten. Grandma liked to use kids urine because they didn’t have any medicines. Also banana peels egg shells ground up and coffee grounds. At the end of the season she left all the dead branches and covered with a layer of sticks, dry grass and leaves. By spring the ground was refreshed.

    Back in the day the Bison herds stretched from the West Coast all the way to the East Coast, I'm pretty sure there were three subspecies of Bison the plains the Woodland I forgot what the third is but I gotta hook it up again. But the point being Once Upon a Time the Bison were the ones that were killing and fertilizing the Earth. The herds could stomp out a bunch of dead trees and twigs and leaves and pushed into the ground along with their poop.

    I started from ground zero,we only had rocks for soil. I built mounds with everything that you listed except I didn't use pee. It doesn't gross me out, for some reason I just didn't think about it. I brought in a bucket today and announced to the family that we are going to use this to collect it. Of course I got ew out of it, but at minimum I'll start with myself. In the summer I want to build sort of an outhouse just for this purpose. This way I also don't need to run inside all the time dragging dirt. By the way you forgot wood ash, great source of potassium.
