You seem to think fondly of the game, which I respect. I have nostalgia for some pretty conventionally bad games too. However, you can't deny that the whole thing was a massive cash grab. I mean, 30 bucks for each of the three while you're not even getting the full story is kinda bs.

I know I’m 3 years late to this but my thought is that video game music phases a similar stigma to animation. There are just groups of people stuck in the past or past thinking that video game music or animation are genres instead of art forms. People that convinced themselves that video game music is all stuff like Mario bros from the nes and animation is for kid shows as opposed to what they actually can be.

I really want video game music to have it's own radio channel, just cause I am tired of hearing the same 10 mainstream pop songs on loop that are average at best (I swear to go if I hear Sabrina's Espresso one more time I will smash every radio on every car)

This was my first and only fire emblem game (Conquest.) Never finished. The incest shit is disturbing as hell so i never bothered with the relationship system like at all lmao. The gameplay is one of the funnest rpgs ive played (if it counts as one) but the story is mellodramatic af and just not good. I think my biggest complaint with it is that in Conquest Corrin is a bumbling dumbass that tries to be a verbal peacekeeper in an active fucking war, and hes too stupid to realize the king hes serving is obviously a fucking villain. I get that the dude raised him, but he wasnt even that fucking nice to him. I mean, the dude is completely okay with killing his blood children if they dont kiss his ass and do his malicious plans. I get its mediveal times but holy shit why do you people not revolt against this idiot 😭 maybe its just me but it was super frustrating not seeing Garon getting his teeth kicked in for most of the game. Hes only a threatening villain because hes a king so his subjects have to follow his commands whatever they may be. The onlt thing i liked about the story was how in order to avoid being executed by Garon, Corrins attempts at peace had to be under the table, and he still had to partake in fighting people he didnt want to because ultimately its what has to be done to accomplish his goals. Its a nice moral dillemma that makes you feel almost like an anti hero

Fates was a fun game even with the story, the biggest gripe is the "Localization" aka failed writers and journalists who cannot even get a job in the field they want to work in. Honestly after learning JP I can only say that the localization is a crime and people like those should be banned from working in any kind of translation job, the sheer disrespect to the original work by just rewriting things for fun is insane. AI cannot replace these people soon enough, permanently. Elise being 10-13 is not really a big deal, remember this is JP where american modern trends did not catch on (even then if you think marrying at 10-13 is too young you would be seen as the weird one even in the 50s, it's just a modern trend and it's pretty much dying out already since one side of the spectrum produces no offspring).

I gave the video topic the benefit of the doubt, but when you get to the point that one game is objectively worse because of the choice of 'girls'...I don't know. You're playing the wrong game if that's what you want out of a FE game. Given how they started to ease more and more into that area, it comes as no surprise how the series as a whole is devolving with each new game.

I played all Fates back to back in 2016 as my second FE game… it was ~2 years after my college graduation aka boomer. It was one hell of a ride especially I played them all on Lunatic difficulty. However even back then I kinda disliked Rev because they fugged over Nyx, Arther and Effie for no reason… No seriously look at their stats, it’s 100% copy paste from what they were in Conquest but they are in mid game which there’s no way to salvage them unless if you got the DLC, even then I highly doubt you can. But yeah I loved Fates regardless. Btw, I heard about a mod its primarily objective is to balance BR and Rev difficulty to not be a snooze fest…. I think it’s called Abyssal Bloodline or something? I will give it a shot.. once I figure how to convert from .3ds to .cia

I finished Birthright and Conquest, but not Revelations. Don't know why. I was pretty close to the end too. Maybe I should now that I can play it in my phone.

Deadly video style man! I have a similar experience with ocarina of time. Shit hit so hard in my childhood it truly became part of my soul. I kind of see it as the vanilla zelda but not in a bad way. Its the baseline with a simple, classic, mature story. I dont think any song makes me feel more than the title song of the game which i think just captures the feel of the experience, beautiful and a little sad.

I only played this because of the Mommy Big Sister.

Now look at the state of Fire Emblem, now we have FE Engage and littered with tropes and waifus, every character looks like a VTuber.

They're okay, but Fates games are near the bottom in Fire Emblem games. If the story and supports weren't total dogshit, I'd hold the games in higher regard.

I know this is a weird thing to say. But I have to say. Despite the fact no one likes birthright I think the humour in that game is peak. That take is gonna get some crazy questions. But genuinely if anything, birthrights cast is a lot more lighthearted, except for Oboro and Takumi, but they are kinda their own thing. I picked up Conquest recently. So I’ll see how it is.

I must say, my first Fire Emblem game was Birthright. But when I found out that Sacred Stones was installed on my 3DS I played that. And I loved it... The characters, the music, the combat, the crit animations oh my lawd the crit animations. Now to be fair the Eirika route has much to be desired, but the Ephraim route is amazing to me.

I’m in a similar boat to where you were when this video was posted, pretty casual FE fan with just a couple games under my belt. As someone in that position, I enjoyed this look at it. I think one thing I do disagree on is the idea that it would be disingenuous to look at them all as one game. I think that the two games were marketed as two sides of one experience and should be treated as such. I imagine most folks who played one felt inclined to play the other. The failings of each bring the complete Fates experience down and the converse is true.

Have you seen the travesty of butchered supports and dialogue? One shining example is Beruka and Saizo C support. '...' that' it, done. Hahaha funny Ninja interaction, amiright?... You should explore the Capturing Mechanic. Capture enemy and select bosses to then be used in your army, which opens up so much replay value that the game already thrives in.
