Dirty Diana: A Love Song for A Princess
Michael Jackson and Lady Diana Spencer look very much in love. My impression from the podcast You're Wrong About suggests that perhaps the woman we knew as Princess Diana was both "a big fan" and Mr. Jackson's girlfriend. The remark he made about wanting to marry her suggests they were engaged. This video contains no speculation about who the guilty party in Diana's death was.
Karaoke tracks include me singing along to:
A live performance of Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson
A live performance of Gold Dust Woman by Fleetwood Mac
Lyrics by Fleetwood Mac suggest that show business plays a role in many internationally known love affairs, deaths, and so-called tragedies. Perhaps some famous people die in random accidents. Did Paul Walker somehow forget every stunt driving maneuver he ever learned to die at age 40? Was James Dean really such an unsafe driver that he died en route to a race? Note that he was not on the races - he was "off to the races" at 24. Norma Jeane Baker's body was photographed when Marilyn Monroe was 36.
A woman I knew as Emma lived a happy life in Saint Louis, Missouri. Perhaps Jackie Kennedy accepted the role of grieving widow on the public stage but arranged some kind of escape? It's not impossible for an actress with many friends to stage a crime scene in the 1960s. Alternatively: I'm just a look-a-like with an oddly similar voice to both her and Stevie Nicks. Who knows. My temporary drivers' license says I was born in 1989 but sometimes I feel quite a bit younger. My lower-right wisdom tooth is about to erupt which would hurt a lot. Please share this video. Perhaps if I blow up on TH-cam I'll be able to go to a non-Medicaid dentist?
I DO NOT WISH TO HAVE MY TWO LOWER WISDOM TEETH REMOVED BY A MEDICAID DENTIST. WHATEVER ELSE YOU THINK, THAT IS A REASONABLE THOUGHT FOR A WOMAN TO HAVE!

I thought The Uglies were a metal band in Colorado that wasn't making it big. That band might not yet be signed. Other bands Zach, his siblings/cousins/parents are in are (I reckon) signed. I think perhaps some people in my life who care about me lied to me? I recognized a musician in Cheap Trick very recently. HELLO CHEAP TRICK RULES. @officialcheaptrick @kansas , and furthermore, even though I remain loyal to Saint Louis, Gates Barbecue is superior. Alas for my pride. Oh well. At least I lived longer than James Dean?
This essay is written to "Mama" but I am frightened of sending it to her directly. We have a tense relationship. I love her but good god. That woman was not lying when she "jokingly" called herself a Tiger Mother. My Mama has called me crazy too many times. I am STRESSED. Not crazy. Not dangerous. Frightened. Legitimately.
STRESSED IS NOT THE SAME THING AS CRAZY!

Squid Game: The Uncanny Horror of Capitalism

Dear Evan Hansen: What Media Gets Wrong About Mental Health

Dear Evan Hansen exploits mental illness and profits from real people's pain. This movie is more than just a bad musical adaptation: it's a case study of all the myths Hollywood sells about mental health and grief. Thank you for this. My friends and I subscribed to the Broadway shows and we saw Dear Evan Hanson without knowing what it was about or knowing the songs. When it was over, my friends and I did do the standing ovation. We weren’t sure what we saw. There are so many things wrong with DEH. I was a single mom during most of my son’s childhood. I worked, I went to school. My son’s dad was in the military and never lived closer than a 4 hour flight to us. But my son didn’t wish he was in a different family. I never felt small. I softened my son’s glove and pitched to him. The only Black character is a typical “token.” The racism and the sexism in this show are appalling. In addition to the disdain for Connor’s suicide. My sister killed herself last spring. I miss her everyday. My other sister and I are her son’s support. He is in the state hospital due to his mental illness. Singing you will be found will not help him with losing his mother, who was his best friend. Anyway- Reddit users also dislike deh. They say it won the Tony for one pop song- waving through a window. Anyway- thank you for doing such a great job explaining the problems with this show and film.

For me, this musical/film is not a commentary of all mental illness but a story of a one troubled young man. Evan selfish not because of mental issues but because of his point of view, because of his focus on himself. Of course, Hollywood trying to make this story "bigger than mounts". They love it. They love money. I understand what it is like to have a depression, anxiety (god blessed me with dysthymia and schizoaffective disorder if my doctor was wright). And yes, I know what it is like to have this urge, this buzzing sound in the back of your head, this dreadful thoughts about suicide. I am twenty-eight now, and I am still struggling with it. Sorry, my point about film only in the first paragraph. It wasn't meant to turn into a song of self-pity. Sorry.

I think the most ironic part of the messaging in "You Will Be Found"... Is that he wasn't. Evan's great tragedy, the thing he unhelpfully uses to excuse a lot of his actions, was a situation where he wasn't found. Hell, Conner wasn't found either. I dont entirely know my point here, but the fact that they can act like it's this hopeful, truthful band-aid you can slap on when *their own story disputes it* is baffling.

I lost a family member to suicide at 14 too, and that feeling of "I should have known" resonated so much with me - even though we were just kids, and we couldn't have known. Such a good video essay, but what probably struck most with me was the part about "even the right words from a friend or family will not cure depression" because it is so true, and at first its so dark, but then it also is oddly hopeful, because it means it is okay, not weak, to take medication and/or go to therapy, which WILL help in most cases. Slowly, and it still will be so, so hard, but it does not mean you failed. Just that you have a very hard and difficult fight

I wish it were just i could be "found." Man I'm standing right here. I know what it's like, and I've been in that tree before. This show and film hurt so much. I hate it. Thank you for your video. Whilst I agree with the points of this criticism, I'd say perhaps the one thing to consider is that there's more than one message, I'd say in terms of its main message, the execution of that solely is poor, however we need to consider other messages as well and meanings that the musical communicates (I.e., not wanting parents of a dead person to feel like their child meant nothing to anyone). I would argue that perhaps this musical isn't supposed to be meant as a message for people with mental health issues, but moreso a commentary of reaction over one's passing, or at least that's what it should mean. Alongside this, the scenes discussed were in my opinion analysed individually as opposed to being in reference to the whole musical, as context over future scenes would create different meanings on current scenes. That's not to say the points made in this criticism aren't correct, moreso putting a different perception on the musical. I will concede that regardless representation is mid at best, and needs to be worked on. Extra: this is just my Media and English brain working together lol

I honestly don't think it's supposed to be about making him a symbol of hope but how a lie can get out of control especially with social media and what a person can do to feel accepted. I don't think it's just a ploy to get popular or a relationship with Zoe. I have experience with therapy and at times it can feel like it can focus on delving into your own feeling. I personally found CBT more helpful. I think it was complicated how the song reflected a deep wish of Evan but was ultimately a lie in the context of the movie. I didn't find it hopeful but uncomfortable but I did feel for Evan too. I don't know anything about the marketing of the movie btw. I also think that they employed the classical story trope of a lie getting out of hand and needing to be resolved but there isn't any real resolution, I wish that they showed the consequences of the lie and Evan trying to make amends and perhaps accepting that he won't be forgiven but trying to be a better person anyway.

This is a powerful video that calls out the empty platitudes and exploitation of Paul and Passek's work. The fact that Dear Evan Hansen got so popular despite how terribly written and dangerous its message is boggles my mind. I guess the songs sounded pretty enough to gloss over how it actively uses suicide as a plot device without any sort of sensitivity.

Did you ever consider, that with GOD all things are possible. I have a child who has battled mental illness for over 30 years. It's put our family through Hell, but we've stood together, helped him fight through it, and at long last we see the light at the end of the tunnel. Do people make mistakes? Constantly. Does that mean you give up on them? It shouldn't. Does it suggest that getting a little sunshine blown up your butt from time to time is so terrible? Well I guess that just depends on how cynical and hopelessly defeated you feel yourself. As for me and mine, we have, and always will. serve the Lord. And any message of hope, forgiveness, and love, is good enough for us, regardless of how aesthetically offensive it may be to others.

I think gen z and millennials are very similar and can learn from eachother, I don't think creating a "vs" attitude is healthy and it's just repeating the cycles of looking down at younger generations.

There is actually a cut song called 'Part of me' That was replaced with You Will Be found. Instead of just saying 'Things will totally get better!, Part of Me has more of a message along the lines of, even though your presence may seem insignificant, your absence will be noted and missed. “I was on the same bus as him” “My son went to school with him” The kid on the bus knew he was there, he might not have paid attention to that, but once his presence was absent it was clear.

Even though the broadway version didn't exactly handle him getting called out for his actions either perfectly, it at least had ' Good for You'. Of course, wouldn't you know it, they cut this out in the movie. The one shred of exposing his faults and why his actions were so harmful to others was taken out. :/ I have to admit however, that 'You Will Be Found' is more just about hope and hanging on, I don't think they're necessarily saying that everything is 100% going to get better. The flipside, however... I do kind of wish they would change the lyrics a bit? Cuz it sounds like someone is just got to come save you. From my perspective, you usually have to go out and get the help, people aren't going to come to you.
