Heiko shaves
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 พ.ค. 2023
Hey Guys, it's me "Heiko" of Heiko's Garage, I am starting my new channel.
"Heiko shaves".
I just switch from the old cartridge razor, that never gave me a really close shave to shaving with an traditional Double Edge Safety Razor. I am loving it. It is a great traditional way of shaving.
It is a nice way of relaxing, getting your mind off of things and just focusing on the task at hand. Very therapeutic.
Please follow along as we explore this great way of shaving together.

Congratulations
Thanks
Did you like the cream? Did you find that the razor fills with the cream and doesn't rinse out well?
I like the scent but not how it lathers. I guess it is a cream that is not supposed to lather but rather go right in the face with my fingers. It wasn't so thick that it would clog things up.
Irritation/redness was due to soap/cream. One way to discern if it's the blade or the soap is to check for areas where the skin is visibly reddish/irritated, like the area between the eye socket and sideburns where soap still makes some contact while blade doesn't make any.
Great review Heiko!! Alles gute aus old good Germany 🇩🇪. Was machst du beruflich in den USA…… etwas handwerkliches vielleicht???
Ich arbeite als Hubschrauberpilot in the Luftrettung, allerdings war ich mal ein Industriemechaniker, das ist aber schon so lange her.
I have found that holding the alum block on a (small) cut for 30sec will usually stop the blood. 🪒
I'll be more patient next time. Thanks
Great review Heiko. Have a wonderful week. 👍😀
Thanks, you too!
top review👍have a nice day
Thank you 👍
Ditto Buddy 😂
That I did not know. Thought it was like my Rex Ambassador/Konsul. Will watch more closely next time. Have seen one other Avanti vid, you have nothing to worry about Heiko.
I watched one. It was a head shave that I won't replicate anytime soon. 😉
P.s. to my last. There is at least one other vid review (have not seen). With respect to the numbers, set it before loading the blade. You never know.
The setting knob is the screw that tightens the razor, so it cannot be set before putting the blade in. I noticed two reviews a couple of days after I had recorded this video. I guess I was too slow to post the video. Cheers
Looks like a good product, a few potential tweaks to come notwithstanding. The stainless is always welcome. With respect to the Rockwell T2. My stainless version shaves on all settings, and it appears to be relatively blade insensitive - though I tend to use the sharper blades. Nice vid, always interested in your reviews. Thanks and cheers
Thanks
Awesome Shave Heiko !!!!!
Thanks
I am guessing, the alum you used under your nose made the lather coating for the following pass collapse and appear thin.
That is possible
Nice Shave Heiko! The Razor looks good and well designed but I wouldn't trust it at all because I've never used this kind of style razors and from what it seems is that whenever you go on a higher sharpness level the less there is pressure on the Blade to keep it in place because I didn't see a spring mechanism like with the Yaqi TFC tho I may actually go and end up with the Yaqi that you reccomended me which was the Yaqi Adjustable Slope with the smaller head
Right on
What you’re describing is entirely different to the Progress it’s based on, where the blade is squeezed between the cap and base plate at every setting unless you “overclock” it and go round the scale again to get some ridiculous blade exposure. On the Progress there is a spring between the two parts of the base plate, I’d have thought the Yaqi would be the same.
I think I will wait for their new slant adjustable..The Torqz The Avanti head is too bulbous.
Yaqi already has the Ultima slant . Are you talking about that?
@@Heiko-shaves No .this will be released this week...it's all new and is very elegant and futuristic..no resemblance to the Ultima
@@Heiko-shaves th-cam.com/video/aWzc0BlB_0M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yAsqnaYjQazeHsQT
I got your email. That is a new slant. I might have to email Grace again. Cheers
Despite having a gazillion adjustable razors, and not being all that interested in the Merkur Progress, I have to say that the Avanti has piqued my interest. Much will depend on the price point, and if they sort out the minor issues you raise.
Ack - the price is CAD $240. Far too pricey for me, so I'll be giving it a miss.
It’s a prototype razor
I guess or a preproduction version.
It’s already on sale on AliExpress
It's going to be $165 and they're working on making it + with a blade in 😬💚
Looks like a nice mild progress esk razor. Shame the # ‘s don’t line up. Sounds like it has great audible feedback!
My Yaqi contact told me they are working on the misalignment and will fix it before it becomes available. Cheers
Outstanding vid Heiko, Just what the doctor ordered, thank you and your colleague.
Much appreciated!
Good job Heiko, esp after a week. The Leaf razors are great and never an issue. Agree, with a stainless or Ti version. 😊 Alum block is the mineral without being refined into Aluminum. After over half a century of use, no toxic impact - thus far. Will have a look at the disassembly vid, as my leaf razors may need a service at some stage - they do get the full cleaning treatment after each use, but deeper maintenance knowledge, and how things are put together is always a good thing. Keep them coming, cheers for now.
Great video, I love seeing side by side comparisons. And great shave on both sides too.
Thanks 👍
Nice comparison Heiko, you take care💈
Thanks, you too!
I recently fell for all the hype about this shaver and having a sensitive under chin looked forward to my first shave with it. Thecfirst surprise, the nice flat surface of the razor that was to allow it to feel its way to the best shave angle, was so small it didnt do that. From there on, it was all down hill. Thecshave was no better than a fifty cent razor, under my chin was so sore, Tgere was no way I could dream of using ut a secind time. In a nutshell. Bloody waste of money, clever sales patter . But no help atall with the shave. And I did all tbe special preparation as the exprrts do. Fking useless. Currently waiting and hoping the company I bought it from, will refund my money to purchase the crap. Ive returned to my cheap adjustable model, that also pains me under the chin. But cheaper.
Thanks for sharing. The only mild razor that I can wholeheartedly recommend is the Leaf Twig. It is my personal favorite.
Great shave comparison. I would never have guessed the Twig would have performed so well compared with the R41 on that amount of beard growth. And thank you for the German word of the day, which I enjoy.
Twigs are fantastic razors - you gotta get one.
Thanks for watching!
Have you tried using a Synthetic Brush by any chance and what's your opinion on them? I've got one From DS cosmetics and I've never had any issues with the brush stinking
The majority of my brushes are synthetic. I also have a DS Cosmetic brush and i love it. My absolute favorite is my new Simpson M7 synthetic.
very nice comparison Heiko👍Have a great weekend
Thanks, you too!
Hey Heiko! Nice shave. Imo you don't need to use aggressive razors at all unless you shave once a month and have no trimmer. Thanks a lot for german word, I'll wait for another one! Have a great week.
Thanks, you too.
Great review Heiko. I gave my Twig razor away because I just could not get use to the different shave angle. Have a great week. 👍🚁
I did the same thing for the same reason.
Thanks, you too!
Great video!! How do you compare the Leaf Twig to the Leaf Thorn?
Here is a link to my comparison video. th-cam.com/video/etol4RvMGsY/w-d-xo.html
Nice Shave! Heiko. Also you not going to lie but when you said "Let's crank it to up to a '3'" I got nervous cause that's the setting where I always end up with Nicks and cuts on my Yaqi FTC😅😅
Thanks 👍
long time no see, everything's fine my man?
Super busy with a massive diy project plus my day job. I barely have time for anything else.
@@Heiko-shaves awesome, stay safe and healthy dude!
Wie Gehts Heiko....Nice to have you back - hope the deck build went well. Love my Twig and it's as comfortable to use as you say, yet very efficient. Got a Mühle R-41 but afraid to use it too often. 😃
The deck build is still ongoing that is the reason for the low output of videos at the moment.
When i'm going over the corner of my mouth, like you're doing at 21:17 i kinda push out the corner using the tip of my tongue.
Good tip. Thanks
Mentioned it in a comment of a previous video. Glysolid is really a good product. Manufactured in Darmstadt, distributor obviously sits in Munich (at least for DE). Price in US seams to be quite high. 9,34 $ for two tins. Here in DE you can get it for about 1,75 € per 100 ml tin. 21:18 remaining stubbles are so annoying. :-)
Man the leaf twig looks like such an awesome razor, I like the way it loads and the way the blade is helped by the magnet that just screams quality in my opinion!
It is great, I just wish they would try to make that out of a more durable material.
All my favourite knots are synthetic, and I find they perform better than my natural hair brushes (I have badger, boar and horse hair). I find my best badger and boar knots are great for face-lathering from a hard puck, but for most purposes, synthetics are excellent.
I agree. Cheers
So what pistol were you target practicing with?
The boys were using an M&P 22 and a 22 single action revolver. They loved it.
Good to see 👀 you, i like proraso green too a wonderful shave today 🪒💈
Thanks 👍
Alum block is NOT aluminium... It's potassium alum. It's a kind of salt basically. So there will never be aluminium in your blood stream. As far as I know, there is no heath issue using it. I use alum block for my armpits too. Helps eliminating the bacteria thus eliminatiıng the odor.
14:18 I too found an inch long hair on my neck just below where I normally shave and it was strange. No idea how long it's been there but I hope nobody had seen it.
That is funny. Cheers
Nice review
TOBS irritates my skin, so I can’t use it, unfortunately.
That is a bummer. They have some great scents.
Really like your interview style. Great insight into each razor.
Much appreciated!
looks like a good razor but a nightmare to clean and maintain😅😅
Not too terrible. At least we can take it apart occasionally.
You're installing the blade wrong.
@Heiko-shaves If you had to compare the Yaqi's TFC between Yaqi's Stainless Steel Adjustable versions and the Rockwell T2 which would you say is has the closest Blade exposure and Curve between the two?, also nice shave!
I'm asking because I really love Yaqi's TFC but mine came with manufacturerment defect(the inside of the handle has its electroplating coat is scratched really badly to the point of where you can see that raw Zinc which once it gets in contact with water it starts creating a Tarnishing coat which results into the threads for unscrewing and screwing mechanism for the top to get stuck) and Yaqi's support is just playing d*mb with me so I just want to upgrade it to a version that doesn't have those issues and has higher quality but I don't know if i should go with the T2 or Yaqi's Stainless Steel Adjustable Series😟😟
The T2 is the mildest of the three razors but the T2 has a completely different design and the razor head is a bit too bulky for my liking. The Yaqi Ultima is more aggressive compared to the TFC. If I may make a recommendation, get either the Yaqi Ultima Slant or the Ultima Brass. Those two are very pleasant razors.
