Confused: What size wrench for these bolts???
G'day folks, it's been a while since my last upload, but I have decided to put my conundrum to the internet community. What bloody size wrench/spanner do I need for these bolts? It's got me absolutely bamboozled. Cheers 🥂 in advance, JD.

G'day everyone, this is a bitesize video on how to make and wire up a Dual Battery System Volt Reader For Under $20! I have to own up and say I payed just under $30 for the volt gauge and switch from a local favourite store of mine, but I could at the time get similar items for around $15 on ebay. The full length version will come when I wire in the Warn Winch I'm currently rebuilding here: th-...

    Many years ago ( 50's 60's ish ) the British sold all their old Whitworth tooling to India and China. so India and China used it until it started to wear out then made modern versions of it. Roll on to the 90's and 2000's when Bunnings showed up in Australia and the likes of Texas in the UK . They wanted a load of cheep fasteners and as they were already buying cheep crap from China any way, why not get more crap in the form of nuts and bolts. Most of the buyers don't seem to have very much tech knowledge, they're just sent out to buy cheep crap in a fancy box that'll brake after a few weeks any way. Who give a stuff about a DIYer that's just going to use a pair of monkey wrenches any way.. I can't answer for the USA as I don't know what fasteners Home Depot sells..

    It may be Whitworth. Whitworth tools are sized by the bolt/nut thread size rather than the hex size. What happened to the Warn Winch you stripped years ago?

      TC and ABS only came out in 2002 with the 15p TD5 engine update, on the county and XS models. Lower spec ones from 2002 rarely have it.

    You are the only video on the entire internet I can see about this winch! I am having trouble installing my new motor! It won't go in all the way there are about 10mm of space (approximately) before it goes in all the way. There are no obstructions, just a pin inside the winch that my motor will not seal onto for whatever reason. I do not want to hammer in the motor and mess up the bearing on the end but do you think that is what I have to do? I just don't want to break anything. I'll let you know how it goes if I get a late response. Thanks man great video!

    When's the next video brutha? Keen to see how it all turns out. Bought a cheapo 12000lb winch off eBay, imax I think it is. I'm stripping it down and degreasing her as this is what all the forums recommend. The thing they don't agree on is the type of grease to use. Some say high temp bearing grease, others say extreme pressure grease, but all agree it needs to have good water repelling qualities. I haven't found a grease to suit all requirements as yet. Just wondering what you plan on using? Cheers mate

    @Rik Heijne TC, can be used to increase traction on the road as well, such as in wet weather, whereas Locking diffs will make it undrivable. Locking diffs are fantastic offroad if your axles can handle it (which stock LR axles can't), but locking diffs are a $3k extra to the cost of a vehicle, which so far I have never felt I needed locking diffs on the terrain I drive, and I push it pretty hard at times. You're better off learning to offroad properly with no aids to learn proper line picking, that way you can put locking diffs and TC to it's best use, and take your car further. I learned to offroad on an xr250r with 1 wheel drive and can get it anywhere a 4x4 can; it's all about picking the correct line.

    • @jamesderksen
      @jamesderksen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, I've been wanting to get it finished for a year now but more important car repair projects keep popping up and pushing it back. My life arrangements for the last year have meant I've been away from home most the year, further reducing project time, but this is to change come November. I will get it done eventually, I promise. For your interest, I put all the rusty stuff in a tub of water and molasses for 6 months and the rust was all gone. Did you find the video detailed enough, let me know if it could be more/less. Cheers Rohan, JD.

      James Derksen No it was great. Good length to run it and pause it whilst you were actually doing the work without having to rewind too often. I took to mine with a wire wheel on the angle grinder and have since put it back together without too much hassle. Haven;t mounted it bc i have now left the state touring for work.

    G'day sir! I was wondering, what does TC provide offroad that Locking rear and front axle diffs don't? Just a friendly question!

    • @sirclay4185
      @sirclay4185 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know your comment was a year ago but, one advantage traction control has over locking diffs is steering. A front locked diff makes a car basically unable to turn, where as using traction control to give the same or similar effect to a locked diff, does not impede steering.

    Hi, Thank you for the video! Around the 16th minute of the video, when you start to take out the housing of the motor, was it welded to the rest of the winch? I`m asking you because I have a Warn M8000 which I would like to repaint and that part seems welded....

    • @jamesderksen
      @jamesderksen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day Mate, No components should be welded on a warn winch. Everything was very stiff when a took it apart, so maybe yours is just really stiff as well. Although, if it was second hand, someone might have welded it, in which case, you case try to cut the weld apart, but I'd just leave it if that particular piece doesn't need to be dismantled. Good luck.

    • @juanialmarza2848
      @juanialmarza2848 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Derksen Hi, thanks for the reponse. A few days ago I could finish dismanteling my winch, and you are right, it wasn't welded, it was just stiff. Only thing left is to continue dismantling the winch motor so I can have all the parts sandblasted and then powdercoated. Do you think powdercoating is a good idea?

    • @jamesderksen
      @jamesderksen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Juani Almarza Sorry for the late reply, powder coating should fine on most pieces but you don't want to powder coat the inside of the gearbox if you get that done as well. Just remember that winches can get quite hot so just check that the powdercoating can take the heat. I'd paint the externals with an engine enamel as it is probably cheaper this way too.

    • @juanialmarza2848
      @juanialmarza2848 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks again for the response. I ended up completly dismanteling the winch and painting the exterior of the rusted pieces with rustoleum. The color isn't as nice as the original one but it seems tough. The only part that I sended powdercoating was the drum. The weekend I will finish testing the electrical wiring and putting back the cable. Then comes the mounting.

    • @jamesderksen
      @jamesderksen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, sorry I didn't reply earlier. All plans and information are in the description. Instead of a remote, you can use a 3 position toggle switch with off in the middle and momentary on to both sides (which is what is on the factory remote), and wire that switch up as per schematics. I do hope to do this some time in the new year and make a video on it. Regards, JD.

  • @jdsdefendercam7518
    @jdsdefendercam7518 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Rafael, yes, they can be a lot of work, but the final result is very satisfying. To clean off the solenoid box, just hose it with water, wipe it down with damp cloth and let it to dry out in the sun. You can do a similar thing to the insides of the motor as well. Just make sure as you don't bump the stators otherwise you'll have to reset them. You can wire brush the steel part of the motor armature. Be careful you don't brush the copper bindings otherwise they can get damaged. Good Luck, JD.

    Hi there, I bought it from Jaycar with mates rates, I think I payed about $22 for the gauge, instead of the rrp of $30. It's a good quality little thing and has click-in tabs on the side so it grips into whatever you mount it into. But You can get cheaper units that will do the same job. You can even use analogue dials in the same simple circuit. Regards, JD.
