Grease Pencil Process Drawing: Over the Garden Wall - Fan Art
A full process video of how this "Over the Garden Wall" fan art was made in Blender Grease Pencil. The video is at double speed and has no commentary. The illustration process includes sketching, creating a rough colored mood, clean-up, coloring, and compositing.

Yes it is one of the biggest issues next to the lack of brush settings and a decent library system for them. All hope is with Grease Pencil 3.0 we get some improvements 🙏

I'd like to try Blender, but I don't have a tablet. What would be a good inexpensive starter tablet for animation?
Any pen tablet is fine. I started on a wacom bamboo back in 2010. Get a used one somewhere to safe even more money. The next level up would be a wacom intuos (or aquivilant of other brands such as huion) I recommend a size m which is just about dina4. Not too big, not too small! If drawing somewhere else with your hand and seeing the line only on the monitor feels weird, I would recommend getting a huion kamvas 13 pro. Also used if possible. I have a video about drawing tablet stands, that might be interesting to watch as well.. hope it helps 🙏

What tablet are you using?
At home and when traveling, I use a Huion 13 Kamwas Pro and at work an older Wacom Cintique 22 hd - from time to time i also use a Wacom Intuos 2d generation i think
Hey quick question. Do you really need a screen display tablet for grease pencil or it doesn't matter?
I would recommend a Grafik tablet instead of a mouse, but it doesn't need to be a screen display. A wacom bamboo or wacom intous style tablet is great as well

is there a way to create a audio visualiser? not 3d, but with the grease pencil elements in 2d
if the section (min 1:19) about displaying the soundfile wasn`t the right thing, have a look at the "pullusb" addon on gumrod here: pullusb.gumroad.com/l/sound_waveform_display hope that helps

I have a problem. Does anyone know why the pencil stroke appears only after releasing the mouse? I can´t see it as I draw the line. I use windows.
on what version of blender do you work?
@@2dToolbox I used the most resent one and then I changed to 3.6 to see if that fixes it. It didn´t.
did you try resetting to the default blender Settings? >File>Defaults>Load Factory Blender settings
How do you make the fill tool not cover the pencil or pen tool lines??? New to Blender. Please help!
Do you try to fill on the same layer as the line art? You should make another layer below the line just for the colouring. Now, all lines should always be in fron of the coloring@@romarhafnaouiwellhereweare2583

Make sure you ar on 24 or 25 frames per second. Then you could also extend the length of the frames from hold on 3 to hold on 6 frames each

In my options, it doesn't even appear "Solid" to fill. Man... sometimes, Blender gets on my nerves. EDIT: For those who can't make this Fill tool work: Create a new Material, change the setting from "Stroke" to "Fill" and change the color in this one. Grease Pencil is not the most intuitive stuff.

Hi, thank you very much for this video!!! It helped me a lot, but I still have a problem that I dont find the solution anywhere :( My problem is that I put de audio and I clic play, but if I stop it to focus In for example frame 50 and then click play again, the audio in frame 50 will play as it was frame 1. So for lipsync its very complicated, because I have to start always in frame 1 to se what happend in frame 50 or 100 o 200... Someone knows what can be happening?

Hello @2dtoolbox I have a question, in the navigation I can't find how to rotate. I did the exact settings that you are discribing in the preference in input and keymap, but I can't rotate with ctrl + alt + middle mouse. I am searching this rotation thing for so long, can you help me with this ? Thank you
Hey Anne, I found out after the video, that the rotation only works with the grease pencil add-on installed. Just go to preferences - add-ons - search grease pencil in the search bar and tick that box next to the addon. Restart blender and it should work 🙏

Yeah get you. On the other hand it allows for a lot of personal flexibility of how you want things to work behind blender. Just whish there would be a safe these settings for future files other than the safe to starting file

LIFE SAVER! Also the scroll frame needs add-on as well. And the rotate canvas is actually ctrl alt mmb, as your fingers show.

Thank you for the great videos! What beginner course would you recommend to start 2D animating (not just drawing) in Blender? There's many videos on YT, incuding yours, there's a bunch of classes on Udemy, but none focused on animation - it's usually only character creation or background building.
There are some really great videos here in TH-cam by @alexgrigganimation . Toniko Pantoja has some great content about the basics too
I downloaded and added the Storytools Add-On in preferences (Blender 3.4.1) and the box is checked so it appears active but there is no drop down menu and it doesn't show up in the tools sidebar like the Grease Pencil Add-On tab. Any ideas?
