Save your money! Essential and Unnecessary Books for Fashion Design Majors
I had some similar thoughts when i saw videos of people trying the target blogilates line. The clothes just seemed way more low quality than the popflex versions.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed!
Great information to have . Thanks for sharing . ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Thanks for watching! ❤️
I think this is so important -- being a consumer that prioritizes buying "affordable" short-lived items (read: junk) -- rather than buying and using "expensive" quality items that last -- feels more expensive in the long run. And if we keep buying cheaply made things, we're just going to reinforce to these brands that they can keep selling us junk...
😔 it’s pretty disheartening when you really start to think about it
Cute!
Thanks for watching!
I am just beginning learning how to sew, like 2 weeks ago. One of the very important lessons of beginner sewists are: 1. Learning the tension and don’t be afraid of it. Do the sample with cranking up different tensions from low to high on that fabric, with half increments each. You learn faster looking at such broader spectrum of results and have better stitch outcomes and less stitch problems. The right stitch will just screams right. 2. Read the manual! I try to learn how to use the twin needles and so many vids/youtubers say different things. I pick up the manual and saw that there is an instruction there SPECIFIC to my machine. Yes. Do what the manufacturer/machine needs, and not what others tell you they do and you have less problems with the machine. 3. First thing I bought is a commercial pattern. To learn the basics of reading the pattern, make a garment, etc. Because from that alone I learn darts, notches, ease, body measuring, notions, laying and cutting patterns on fabric, etc. Follow a TH-camr who sew the same commercial pattern to see how it’s done correctly. 4. For hobbyists, I beg to differ on buying the basic sewing machine. I think the best machine, if you need to own ONE machine, would be a ‘beginner computerised embroidery machine’. It can sew, hem, embroid. The capability is just sufficient and on ‘sweet spot’ that it will last many2 years for all kinds of projects in mind.
Great tips! On buying a sewing machine, I always say the best machine is the one you can get for free just because it's a pretty big upfront cost especially when you're not sure if you'll use it. Not sure if I would recommend a beginner to seek out an embroidery machine specifically unless they have their heart set on embroidery! My everyday machine is an embroidery machine from my mom and I hardly ever use the embroidery function. Thanks for your thoughtful comment!
I especially like the sweatshirt idea. I think I will try something similar with the princess seams - maybe do those with some piping made from the reverse side of the fabric or even some contrast jersey strips.
That is such a cool idea, I would love to see it if you try it!
Thank you Nabila for showing and pointing out your mistakes so confidently, you give me encouragement to sew more and make me believe I am normal. 🙏🙏🙏
I love normalizing mistakes! Thanks for your sweet comment, happy sewing!
Repairing Stuff Is Good for the Environment, and Good for Your Mind
I agree, it's a win-win!
not enough people are mad about AI song covers lmao
Is the audio not from Jennifer Lawrence in Joy?
@@busybila the voice sounds super robotic, sorry if i was mistaken though!!
It was just the first try, if you try again and research how to do it beforehand and more carefully I'm sure it will be the same as the photo or better! Don't give up❤
Your husband looks like such a fun kind person!!
He sure is! 🥰
Well done
Thank you!
I like air dry
I feel like adding a distinction between the chest part to like the flowy part of the dress might give it a bit more dimension. Maybe adding a belt would help Still a great job on making it yourself.
Thank you! I've been making dresses for myself for so many years so I know that I'll get the most wear out of it if it's on the flowy side
Glad I found this
Glad you found me! 🫶🏽

just a bit short but nice!
The real question is how much did it cost you to make vs buying?
This is not a manual online. There is another option for that. However it responds to the paranoia that we all have when purchasing a new make and complex, expensive model. Having watched the other brilliant tutuorial, this particularly addressed the ??? that I had with the manual and that video. Well done. Very human! I have had other overlockers, the first 5 stitch long lasting model so I was totally out of date. My cheap models could not cope with my projects of various types over long term, ie. three years. My great grandfather and grandmothers were mass producers of their own designs as well as personal designers, so I seem to get a lot of dislike of patterns built in to my physche! it does push machines to the limit, ie. rucksacks, fire screens etc. so am hoping this will be my last and only machine, having just got rid of two through a service engineer who was reasonable but parts would cost a lot. Thank you!!
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! I am also hoping this machine lasts me the long haul so will definitely do an updated video if I run into any major issues but so far so good!
Practice makes perfect! Keep going girl!!! 🎉✨
You're almost there ! Keep going ☺️
You can create a green crop top by adding light fabric at the waist to make a skirt. 👍
I love that idea! 🤩
Definitely your gray sweatshirt upcycle was one of my favorites. It gave me some inspiration to start thinking of how I want to change some boring shirts I have. That being said, I'm new to sewing as of a year ago and I have completed *drumrollllllll*....ONE project. I have started many other projects, but then messed up in some way and got discouraged. I really enjoy seeing other people's creative ideas to get inspo from, but my still basic understanding of sewing requires a need to learn how and why fabric selections, adjustments, and other decisions in the process are done. I look forward to learning and enjoying the creations you make this coming year. Happy New Year!
Thanks for watching, your support means so much to me! I hope you feel so proud of your projects- sometimes the projects that turn out in an unexpected way are the best teachers. It’s better to have tried. Your comment is really inspiring me to create more educational content in the new year so thank you!!
It's been awesome watching everything you've made this year, can't wait to see what next year has in store!
seriously, keep it up 👏👏👏
Aww thanks y’all!!
the sun shrug has got to be the coolest and most useful idea I've seen in a while!
Thank you!! I hope to get the pattern in my shop next year so more people can enjoy it 🤞🏽
I think length can be longer
I love this. My sister went to college in Boston and I’d ride up from CT to visit almost every weekend. I’d absolutely make this for her. So many memories on the T there.
That is so sweet!! Public transit rules 🥰
I mend socks with embroidery thread. Less bulky, more comfy. 😀
I actually switched to embroidery thread after I posted this haha
So helpful,thank you!!
You're so welcome!
Yours is even better, I would rather wearing yours ❤
Gorgeous! Instant follow! This is a hobby I’ve been wanting to get into for soooo long as I love fashion but being plus size makes it difficult. In January 2024 I told myself if I was still interested in sewing by 2025 I’d splurge and get my first sewing machine. Videos like yours definitely confirm I want to try this! Thank you for sharing your lovely skills 🩵
I think it needs to be a bit longer. Also, try to make the bottom part straight. It kind of fans out at the bottom. The original one doesn't. I believe the reason it looks so different is because the girl from the picture and you have different body types. I believe this type of dress looks better on a taller woman. You are much shorter. Other than that.. I believe you did a FANTASTIC job!!! Seriously!
why did i read that as ‘and then i go and spoil italy’ 😭
Just needs to be longer and more fitted at the waist 🩷
Cute
Love this idea!!!
Thank you!!
It doesn’t look that bad at all!
YES
❤️
Give a woman a dress, she'll be pretty for a day. Teach her to make a dress and she'll be beautiful for a lifetime ❤
We’re getting there, that’s what matters!
You shouldn’t have
The embroidery turned out excellent. Thanks for sharing.
As someone who hasn’t done embroidery often, I impressed myself! Thanks for watching!
Saw a high class Alteration shop in Perth Australia. A lot of potential
Thanks for watching!
Looks just like the picture to me. Not my style, but still.
Gather the back, the pleats make it bag the butt.
I think what you're seeing is a result of not pressing as I go, once I gave this a good press, the fabric laid nicely.
It needs a belt!
It looks like it’s made of a heavy Jean material while yours look more light weight and puffy aswell as not the right shade of blue grey from the orriginal
Love this, I’ve been trying to do this more lately!
You got this!
Muy lindo! Muy buen trabajo, muchas gracias por compartir
