You know Aretha Franklin was standing on her head when this woman first hit the scene. I know she eventually liked her but Chaka Khan had way more vocal ability than Aretha did. Chaka Khan is a perfect singer. I love all of her recordings and I love her voice even up until today.

The electronic piano musician looks like Jimmy Page. Oh, and this is clearly playing to a backing track because the drummer has spots where he does a long roll that is not visible in his playing.

The solo at 10:245 I can remember seeing on TV and wondering why this guy wasn't getting more attention at the time as a guitarist. In the blues rock vein he was right up there but was never in any of the usual lists.

My first two influences on guitar were Rory and Trower.

Saw them in concert in San Diego in 1976. Up to the moment they walked out on stage, I didn’t know they were actually ‘white’ except for the drummer!! Queen of my soul, nothing you can do, schoolboy crush, if I ever lose this heaven and pick up the pieces, Amazing musical collaboration, funky beat, blending of voices….. excellent LIVE. Bands today don’t compare.

Isn't it amazing how many of their songs sound just like the recordings (i.e., Pack My Bags). Her voice was so strong with her little sexy self. She looked to have Indian in her ancestry. I knew a girl named Keetah in college that reminded me of Chaka. She had fire like her too. But there was nobody like Chaka when she came out and later on she outgrew the group but they still had a sound that will never be forgotten.

So great to have these precious, rare clips. Rare Bird, I've loved you for so long.

If anyone on that stage gave less than 200%, I couldn't tell. They gave a REAL concert and not some cheesy, lip-synced version surround by dancers.
