    27:21 No. Stop trying to create scenarios to justify why a drill applies to cops. Ffs. It applies because it’s a demonstration of shooting skill. Period. If a cop sucks at that drill then it gives them things to work on (leading with the eyes, precise transitions, trigger control at speed). You’re talking out of both sides of your mouth. Shooting is shooting. That’s it.

      That's not really what was said in the video, it was more of a conversational discussion on how it could. In fact I say shooting is shooting more than one time in the video. Also those conversations were questions I had recieved from cops on applicability so it seemed that at least some people learn that way and that's fine. Thinking a one size fits all approach works for how some folks learn isn't super helpful, data shows that. I agree you don't need scenarios or that they can be harmful in some cases, but providing context is never a bad thing if someone needs it. The "cops are dumb" argument shouldn't apply as well.

      @@jacrispy9603 You guys did say that cops shouldn’t be trying to justify drills by creating applicable scenarios, but then (at the timestamp I provided) Cake gave a comparable scenario. Like I said, it’s talking out of both sides of the mouth. The reason some people continue to think that every drill has to apply to a real world situation is because of situations like this where “authoritative figures” give a scenario. We need to stop doing it. This isn’t about people learning a certain way, it’s about changing the paradigm and we can’t do that by continuing to follow the status quo. In my original comment, I gave the start of the answer you should give to cops (or armed citizens) when they ask you how a certain drill applies. You explain to them the SHOOTING SKILLS that are being tested/developed. There’s literally zero reason to give a scenario. If they ask for a scenario, you pause and take the time to explain why that type of thinking is flawed. This is another instance of getting people to become process focused instead of outcome focused. The “outcome” would be the scenario, the “process” is explaining what shooting skills the drill is working on.

Trying to get cops to think of it as scenario or build a story to it, is why cops look at other practical things and think it doesn’t apply. It’s shooting skill fundementals. That’s all. Not a drill based on a HRTS where a guy pops out. Just shooting. And then apply your fundamental skills to whatever your use of force is or isn’t some day. Local cop. USPSA master.

    Since your shooting fast and easily hitting those targets, would it make you better if the targets were alot smaller and maybe had no shoots right behind them so you cant just walk in and shoot a giant target? I dont understand how this is necessarily making anyone better at anything…? Do you think if you did this drill 100 times youd be a faster and more accurate shooter? Thanks

    • @Officercake
      @Officercake หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah, so this is ez mode in the video. Ideally you could have a friend out there with you to randomize the target placements, distances, how much of the target is exposed to you, and add in shoot/no shoot. When filming this I was out there alone so I didnt get that opportunity myself on this specific range day. I should have moved the deep corners further back though. Didn't give myself much room to work with.

    If 20-25% of LEO shootings occur at 12 yards or farther, I’d argue that you should spend at least 50% of your training ammo at 12+ yards. Fundamentals need to be much more refined to run a pistol well at 12+ yards, compared to inside 10 yards. Mistakes are magnified as the distance increases. I’d bet that a guy who can consistently shoot a clean Bill Drill in under 3 seconds at 15 yards can also shoot a clean Bill Drill in 2 seconds at 7 yards; but the inverse isn’t necessarily true. In my experience, people tend to avoid shooting drills at 15+ yards because it’s rough on the ego...which is precisely why more people should do it.

    • @Officercake
      @Officercake หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean, yeah, if you’re trying to refine your fundamentals then you gotta do what you gotta do. It’s all very situationally dependent on the shooter and where they’re at. For the majority of cops who don’t spend much time on the range, I’d rather have them get really good at the distances they are most likely going to be at for the limited time they do spend at the range. In a perfect world they would understand that they need to spend more time at the range and then they can get into the weeds of refining fundamentals at distance but the fact of the matter is that most only shoot once or twice a year at best unfortunately. Some will go once a month or every other month which is better but not sufficient. And then few will go pretty much every weekend which, in my opinion is the minimum to see actual results over time and implement an actual training program to refine fundamentals and start working at various distances to evaluate their ability. For the guy that goes every few months or less, I don’t think it does much good to go shoot bill drills at 15-25 because they don’t go enough to diagnose problems and then implement the solution reliably over time because they might not go again for a few months. Again, it’s unfortunate that all cops don’t go as often as possible to be proficient with their firearms but it is the reality currently.

    The unfortunate truth right now is that no matter how many cops actually do the right thing there are more that seem to want to go out of their way just to do the wrong thing. I lost all respect for cops in my area after being pulled over 3 times because apparently being a motorcycle rider and wearing a black vest makes me "look suspicious!" I have no rockers or badges of any sort and I ride a Burgman 650 executive which is a scooter so I wasnt exactly sporting the 1% outlaw biker look in any way. I was not speeding or doing ANYTHING wrong, yet they have done it 3 times now. The excuse was that my vest "looked like body armor" which is for one thing absolutely BS, it looks nothing like body armor. Second where I live it is absolutely 100 percent legal to own and wear body armor anytime and anywhere one wants. Body armor is not illegal to own or wear in Florida, so it is just cops fishing and nothing more. Until cops stop doing crap like that their reputation will NEVER improve. So sorry, not sorry I cannot support cops as a whole anymore. There are just far too many bad ones out there for the wrong reason these days.

    On a serious note, why do you refer to your self and others as “Cop”.. most officers refer to them self as “police or police officer” and not cop…when you announce you self on duty do you say Houston cop or Houston police? I’ve been called everything under the sun that you can call a white cop this day and age so “cop” “popo” “12” “pig” are all like nothing to me.
