A really great dipole antenna construction video. Got me excited to build one! Cleanest construction process that I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing!
I’ve seen dozens of these videos. This guy is the GOAT 🐐 Well done 👍
How would you hang it wi no trees?
You're spot on @OtisDyson in your assessment of the three main radios. I'm a 70s CBer resurrected recently. Traffic on 19 is garbage at times. Whistling, singing, cussing, etc. And many of those are using what used to be called linear amplifiers!
Great job! What are you using for a 2 meter attic antenna?
Thank you! Your videos are going to get me started and I'm excited.
THANKS!!
Great vid. I found three low budget radios, GMRS, CB, and HAM. All small and portable, battery capable. On my longer car road trips, I bring em ll, and turn em on. I feel safer, each offer weather. I find em fun. It's normally quiet in my areas; But that is ok. I find GMRS more active, HAM, the second most active. CB the least, but overall, all re quiet in my regions. I tend to pack em in a book bag and bring inside. I fear car getting broken into, items stolen. So I try harder to avoid that. I got 3 outdoor mounted car antennas but discrete. I enjoy them when fishing, hunting, camping. Dear "group", read up on the wilderness protocol, eg ... frequencies such as 146.520 on HAM, and 20 on GMRS. Don't forget 9 and 19 on CB. Otherwise in general, these devices are fun stuff.
Great video - thanks for the insight
can i use it like reapeater? like, can be its analogue gper by mikrotik?
Can I ask why you went with a Sangoma controller instead of a Grandstream to match your Grandstream phones?
I have always liked FreePBX. I just like the flexibility and reliability it gives. I wanted to try the Sangoma server on this project to see what it would do. Most of the time I just build a FreePBX server. Sangoma is just loaded with FreePBX. Grandstream phones work well on it. :-)
I am using Grandstream phones and the wireless phones and AP’s and ip phones. They are a great chose.
@@Red1Wollip I like whatever works and what your comfortable with.😁
Should it have a ground and or a balun?
Yes, I was using an antenna tuner (not shown) instead of a balun.
New tech here. So if I have an antenna tuner, which I do with my FT-817, then I don’t need a balun?
you saved my life, liebe grüße aus deutschland 👋
A point of clarification: FRS radios are not limited to 0.5 watts on all channels. FRS is allowed 2 watts on channels 1-7 and 15-22, but only 0.5 watts on channels 8-14. GMRS licensees are allowed 5 watts on channels 1-7 and up to 50 watts on 15-22 but are still restricted to 0.5 watts on 8-14. Most GMRS or HAM radios won't even go as low as 0.5 watts, and it's common for them to have those frequencies limited to listening only or even to have them blocked altogether.
I’d much rather my kids hear the dirty talk on the CB radio than deal with the evil bass tord hypocrites and predators in USA churches.
why can't all TH-cam instructions be this clear? Thank you!
Thank You my friend.
Agreed. I think even I could build an antenna like this. Excellent clear instructions. Thank you Sir.
If you're traveling past high elevation offroad trails especially during weekends, GMRS can be as spicy as anything on CB, and the kind of folks transmitting that spice probably couldn't care less about any license/call-sign requirement. Or maybe they just mistakenly believe CTCSS = encryption because nobody ever breaks in on their conversation😂
I have seen a few diffrent forums that say that your ground plane should be slightly shorter than your hot lead.
Thanks!
My solution was to install both a CB and a GMRS radio in my truck. If I'm in a caravan, I can communicate with the other vehicles via GMRS/FRS and use the CB to listen for road information like slowdowns, etc. and pass it along to the other drivers. Both units are super-compact with all the controls in the handset. They're tucked away under the seats with only the mics showing. You will get little, if any, useful information about road conditions with a GMRS radio, but for caravans it's the best mode of communication because you can hand out FRS radios to every vehicle, since it's likely that few or none of your friends will have CB or GMRS. If you can only have one and you want it to listen for road conditions, then it pretty much has to be CB. Yes, it's pretty wild out there, but that's where the information is.
This is what I'm planning. I originally got a midland mxt115 for fishing, camping and offroading, but there doesn't seem to be much activity when I travel. So I'm planning on getting a CB for that reason and run both.
I can’t believe you are using the cigarette lighter as a source of power. You need to rethink your installation.
thank u so much for the info
Hello! Please tell me where the dimensions of this antenna were taken? Is there a calculation of this antenna in the mmana program?
Hi. Don't you need a BALUN transformer to unbalanced coax connected to balanced antenna? I think you do my friend.
Anderson Power Poles.......Ham Standard is Red on Right Tongue Up Google it. Thanks for your info!
With all options out there, CB is still king.
You never mentioned that it should be channel 19 on GMRS. This has to be done by word of mouth.
How do you get the left/right wire up in the tree? Do you toss something up in a tree like the middle section?
GE washers suck control board control board control board and finally the recycle dump.
You didn't show if you glue the caps for the three ends ... the legs & feed into the tee, when the wiring is completed ?
Great innovation/ creative...but without pvc adhesive there will be stress on the solder connections when mounted !?
You didn't show how you attached the ground. Did you solder or wrap the wires around and retighten? Otherwise good video
The bob ross of IT “it just runs”
Love it my friend!!!😃
CB is great for listening to hunters, gravel truck drivers, and people pretending to be HAMs. GMRS is great for talking to your friends on a road trip(or while camping), others people off-roading, and people pretending to be HAMs. I used to be a CB guy but after using GMRS with privacy tones I'm sold. CB is like a Call of Duty lobby with extra static. GMRS with privacy tones with your group is like using walkie talkies as a kid in the woods, much more fun.
Nice Job!!! Thanks!!😀
Awesome vid. Looking fwd to trying this. Just one question:Being in the attic doesn't block the signal?
I use them all. Ham, GMRS, FRS, MURS, Marine, My SDS 200 is so awesome to travel with. I like the ability to scan and listen while I travel using GPS location and use the complete database.
Great video, straight to the point and excellent instructions. You've gained a sub from down under 👍
It's a very nice and clean setup. Why not home-run the yellow/ red fibers to the blue switch location?
The way the building is designed, it just made sense to daisy chain it. Switches are in a row.
Thank you so much !! 100% worth it ! You saved me
This video helps a lot and i will 100% use it when i get my Hf rig in place. 73
Can this also work with non pass through RJs?
Absolutely😀
No balun?
I was thinking that as well 🤔. 1:1 would stop the coax radiating
Can't believe this worked. Thank you sir!
Great to hear!
Misinformation.... The control board ALSO has to be set (its personality). If not done, the washer will not function properly.
Quality content. Hope your channel keeps growing.
Much appreciated!
Love mine.. makes life and making jumper sooo much better
Best tool invented!!!
This is the only video that shows this fix. Quick easy. Thanks
Welcome!
Each one is good depending on the situation. Why not get GMRS, CB, and Ham. I've listened to DX on 40 Meters on a long road trip. Still use my Cobra 148 but haven't gotten my GMRS license yet. No GMRS repeaters in my area but there are some around Dallas and Fort Worth.
Newbie question. Does the final measurement include from the centre plug to the tip of the wire including the locking S turns?
It may effect it minutely. That's why I cut it a little long at first. Then take readings and shorten as needed.
I have a tech license, and eager to talk on 10 meters!, I will be building my 10 meter antenna real soon. I look forward to get talking when the conditions are good. KE5BGV is my call sign.
