WRX STI Rod Knock

This was my 2015 WRX STI. It had 40k miles when this happened. I purchased this car used with 19k miles on it and did the oil changes at 3-4k miles. I have a very good relationship with Austin subaru and they were able to switch out the short block under warranty. As soon as the repair was done I traded in the 2015 for a 2018 WRX STI!

yes basic electronics; digital tach would be great; NOT a adv full tft screen but ; they aren't harleys for 2 up comfort.
all the roads in asia, non drivers ; I'd never get over 110km's or just 65 mph or so.

The Fatboy is a good platform to accessorize to make it your vision. I ride a 2007 Fatboy everywhere I want to go year round. It’s 18 years old now and still runs fine. I would ride it cross country any time.
Sounds good but just trade it in for a manual. You’ll have a better experience overall.

@@FIRST465 Yes, but it has a manual mode where the pulleys will simulate stepped gears and you have paddle shifters to shift between the gears. My Subaru Legacy CVT has them. It's fun and in pretty much every situation except straight line acceleration and fuel mileage, worse than manual mode. Any time I drive fast, drift, or anything of that nature, manual mode is better.

@@erickflores01 it's a CVT. Also, IMO, 2015+ WRX's have had a weirdness them just because Subaru decided to make them no longer a part of the Impreza lineup and make the WRX it's own vehicle. No UEL headers, the FA20, very economy car looking (yours looks good), 2015, for the WRX at least, the STi stayed much more similar, was the year they changed it. I know a few friends who have VA and VB WRXs. They're both cool, but only when in manual. EDIT: Thinking about it, it's not even really so much the CVT that makes me dislike 2015+ WRXs more than any other (I still love them. I love all Subaru's don't get me wrong but I have to throw shade at VA boys). They killed the sound of the WRX when they gave it Equal Length headers. They say it's for "performance" but the WRX has only gained like 30 horsepower since it's debut in 1992. No more boxer rumble, and hearing the quick shift of the CVT is just a bad rotten cherry on top.

I think the biggest problem people have with their bikes is pretending they’re bike is something it’s not. Buying a fatboy, you need to have in mind that it has limited riding. It is meant for nice relaxing cruises, taking in the sound and feel of the engine, and the views of the scenery you’re passing through. It’s def not a “‘only bike” vibe. Going from that to an XSR is crazy different, I’m glad you figured out what your needs and wants are man.
I couldn’t agree more. I unfortunately learned that the hard way. Hopefully later on in life I can have 3 bikes. R1, XSR and a Harley!
agree; its for cruising touring. I have a xsr900 for twisties; hills and a city bike for dealing with 100,00 scooters all over who can't drive at all. but those others are not for 2 up riding comfort so the fatboy works there

You really blew it with the worries on value going forward! That bike right now is worth as much as it was brand new.

That’s how my STI sounds like. Been driving it for a year and does not go away but no loss of power.
Psht my built block only had 6000 miles when it spun a bearing and it was 4 months past the warranty rip

Sorry If I am late, however I got the same ticking noise from my 2015 STi yesterday (91k miles/158k km). Never missed an oil change(using motul 5W30 as stated in the manual), never done donuts as I am not a fan of theese. It is driven hard tough, I have done pulls here and there but I always let it cool down a bit. The strange thing is that I expected the low oil pressure lamp to ignite, but it did not. Pulled out the oil stick and there weren't any silver shavings. Its my first subaru, so I am kindly asking. Does the oil lamp lights when this happens or it doesn't? Thanks in advance.
Sorry to hear that! My light was not on when this happened. Funny enough. Not even the check engine light came on. 🤷♂️. This particular STI was bone stock.

It happens . 2014 sti same spun a rod bearing . Cost me 10gs including new clutch while their at it. 133k miles
just drove home from work, i have the same thing just that it’s wayyyyy more less noisey. Only activates when i go past 3k rpms.
I quite like the tail tidy, although I find the brake light to be a bit on the small side. Love the engine guards. Nice mods bro. Ride Safe

@@erickflores01 Sounds hella good. When I had first watched your vid. Back when I had mine. I ended up doing pretty much the same thing along with the secondary cat delete. I had mine 2 years and ended up replacing the shortblock after about 8 months. I sold it about a month and a half ago. 😔

How do you like the Givi cage, put a red SXR or Yamaha rear brake cap on, I don't like that rear brake set up looks great don't feel people can see you good enough.

Damn ik its old but i had my s2k sandwiched in the freeway by 2 idiots not keeping their distance when its pouring rain luckily my damage wasnt shit compared to theirs also didnt have insurance at the time so i got really lucky. Stay insured folks dont wanna end up paying for something u didnt do

@@erickflores01 you still have to aim them sometimes. Had to do it on my 2008. The worst offender of stock blinding lights are toyota corolas tho (should be aimed by the dealership but 90% of them aren't)
