Grant was born in New York City and grew up in Lake Placid, New York. When she was fifteen, she left Lake Placid to go to boarding school in Connecticut. She is the daughter of domain investor and millionaire Rob Grant. Lizzie Grant's management chose her stage name, Lana Del Rey, "I wanted to be a band but the label I was with and the team I had around me absolutely wanted me to be a solo artist. Lana Del Rey came from a series of managers and lawyers over the last 5 years who wanted a name that they thought better fit the sound of the music."
She released an EP titled Kill Kill in 2010. It was her first professionally produced EP, released under the stage name Lana Del Ray on an independent label with producer David Kahne, which was available for purchase on iTunes for a brief period before being withdrawn, for reasons yet to be made clear. When she was recording, Lizzy got to meet Paul McCartney. Lizzy said she saw a toy piano that made what she called a "sparkly jewelry box sound" and said she wanted to use it for her album, but Kahne said she couldn't since it was already on McCartney's. When she made a face, McCartney tried to comfort her. Her father Rob Grant, who has been helping his daughter market her album, said it's very exciting to live vicariously through her.

She was a mature girl with a great gift, not just to sing but to write songs. I just heard about his untimely death of being mauled to death by coyotes. I pray her family is able to survive all the grief that they will have to bear the rest of their lives. My old brother lost a son when He was young and he never gotten over it. I cannot imagine having a sentence like that to have to bear the rest of your life. Nothing can be more painful than that, that's for sure.

There is a reason. Something you cannot see. Something you don't know, but when she was alone and felt near the end she regretted her decision: "Oh, it's wrong. How much I liked him in the end. Now it's late. If only Heaven could forgive me." We understand she wanted to different. Not us! I believe in the occult. I'm not a musician. All her suffering is still there in that place. Many prayers should erase her desperation and the she will be free like wind as she wanted to be.
