Sail forth! steer for the deep waters only!
Reckless, O soul, exploring, I with thee, and thou with me;
For we are bound where mariner has not yet dared to go,
And we will risk the ship, ourselves and all.
-- Walt Whitman

Beauty Is Suffering [Part 3 - The Poet]
Beauty Is Suffering [Part 3 - The Poet]
Words are quite fundamentally mysterious. Throughout history, whether they have been spoken or written, they have shaped our path to where we stand today. Before writing, the primary method of passing knowledge down to the next generations was through poetry and dance. We could not have the society we have today without utilising our most valued tool - language.
Those unique amongst us, with particular skill in prose are as Auden wrote, passionately in love with language before anything else. As poetry is very much autobiographical in nature, many of the most celebrated poets in history expose themselves to the world in a way few people can.
It is this vulnerability and frailty within which we immerse ourselves and experience the poem through the senses. As Keats wrote, upon hearing a poem, we are not meant to 'figure the it out'. Just as one swims in a lake, the purpose is to not immediately swim to shore. The point of swimming in the lake to be in the lake, to luxuriate in the sensation of water. A poem emboldens the soul to accept mystery.
In order for us to connect with a poem, the poet must write about the world, not through knowledge, but through experience. It is in these moments that the poet has the ability to capture the true essence of that which took place.
More often than not, it is in these moments that the poet suffers the most for not only can they experience the situation as we do, but to their own peril, can put the most accurate of words to that which we struggle quantify.
It is through their eyes, do we see the landscape of human experiences more clearly.

Beauty Is Suffering [Part 1 - The Mathematician] It is not his specific journey which is crucial, it is what his journey represents. Whether we are listening to a piece of music, using a piece of technology, or gazing into a painting, we are, in those very moments, connecting with some sort of human experience other than our own. In many cultures around the world, there is a tendency to idolise...

Beauty Is Suffering [Part 2 - The Musician] Often missing from our understanding or enjoyment of music is a most important question; how did they do it? The beauty we hear in music today, whether it be at a concert, or laying in our own bed, is largely a result of the thousands, if not millions of individuals outpouring that which cannot be put into words. The common strand in much of what we l...

For those wondering what was so obvious, it is not actually that simple, it is not something that normal people can understand, the solution to the problem is about 65 pages.
One of the best feelings in life is turning your childhood dreams into reality.
0:37 That's not what the theorem says. It would be correct if you replaced the equals sign with the not equals sign.

For any Citizens of England, would you agree his determination is a good way of symbolising a characteristic of “Englishness”. Not to say other peoples don’t have determination, but this man’s determination I reckon comes out in a uniquely English way. To a degree an Anglicans feeling of conviction. That’s what I feel when I listen to him, but that might be a very Anglo-australian feeling/thought to feel.
Suffering becomes beautiful when anyone bears great calamities with cheerfulness, not through insensibility but with greatness in mind. ~ Aristotle ~
what about the sequel ?

It is so powerful and motivating to pursuit your dreams. I can feel his passion even after 40 years since he solved the problem.
This video moved me to tears.. as it immediately took me back to the years struggling towards my vision. What a powerful dose of authenticity, for those who can relate.
1:22 did he literally mean he understood it at 10!
so beautiful. I felt like when thinking of it it still moved him to tears. I cannot imagine how such an experience changes life.
0:36 uuhm you meant to write a^N + b^N ≠ c^N ?
What a beautiful human being 🥹
Yeah my face goes from hey man to Russian beauty flat when under load from general painful things. Then I get intellectual and my face goes to average looking male. Three facial holds in static nervous system, used to like number three but Russian beauty flat is way better with a beanie on. Like this is literally nervous system tension with one stimulus.
Beauty is suffering!

Legend
Wiles is beyond a great man for completing the impossible. Also I must now read all Aristotle for the quotation Suffering becomes beautiful when anyone bears great calamities with cheerfulness not through I sensibility but through greatness of the mind. Such a beautiful logical way of conducting life how I feel I live is exactly the same and maybe when it's mocked because of someone else's angry/stress etc etc it's definitely a quotation to make... I think I either want to study math or help humans socially involved either way this video has inspired me.
now compare this side by side with the way a greek mathematician would have handled it.

Great quote by Aristotle in the end, not quite appropriate here
I am 15 years of age and currently searching for disciplined corporation partners in which are similar ages. I plan on formulating a multibillion dollar corporation and desire similar minded people with the same ambitions.

hey @astudyofeverything it has been 11 years since you've uploaded. i just found your channel some days ago. not sure if i agree with all the ideas you've brought up in your videos but hell i cant help appreciating the making of these videos in such an ineffable manner. if you see this, i hope you're doing sound and well.
I nutted on knowledge like this once ... It was when i was being bullied in school and I read Beauviour's The Second Sex and then read the Upanishads by P. Lal. No woman has givene such pure joy. Bliss 💕 philosophy and ofcourse coarse unnamed high mountains which represented the women I wish were companions to me. He looks like a man that hs been graced by the nude queen's presence which imparts untold wisdom. We call her by some name in my culture but I wish not risk offending her pupils.
Can anyone help me with this? If we equate a=1, b=2, c=3 and n=3 will the equation stand true?
no 3³ is 27 ≠ 2³ + 1³
