Hi, l used to own a 1902?Hornsby Akroyd 4NHP Horizontal blow lamp start engine. It was very easy to start by turning the flywheel backwards against the compression it would then fire and run in the right direction at 120 rpm without any problems.

Something not right with either the engine or the operator, given that once started he couldn't get it to idle happily without all that fiddling. Painful to watch such dysfunction.

Might it run better if the hot bulb was at a temperature its original Engineers might recognise? Looks a bit hot to me, but then I read how it hasn’t run in 40 years. Burning out the gunk then!
