    U know i was think being in the crew quarters could not be fun its right in the back were the weather comes pounding into when storms rage so that takes away the little rest u mite get...not a good idea to have that open back...but how else could they get rail cars in there....

    What a beautiful Bridge and Engine Room this vessel has, and the Bridge's period brass and copper housed controls and that fabulous radio frequency selector dial were really lovely. But it was in the Engine Room where the real gems were hidden from public view, and they were in abundance too! The Engine Room merited a documentary of it's own! I imagine that the vessel is quite labour intensive but generally quite reliable with only routine maintenance being necessary, albeit frequently! Being the last vessel in the USA so powered, she is quite historic in her own right!

    What a beautifully preserved wreck! The condition is phenomenally good considering how long its been underwater! The interior is fantastic, the detail wonderful, it almost looks as if she can be salvaged, repaired and relaunched! Oh, if only! It's nice that despite recieving fatal hull damage, she remained afloat long enough for the entire Crew to abandon ship in their lifeboats and that they were all rescued by the ship that sank them. Whilst the underwriters would have paid out for the cargo, fuel and vessel, in truth, the only thing that really matters is that the entire Crew were saved, an unfortunately not too frequent occurance on those waters! Thank you for sharing this superb video.

  • @felixcat9318
    @felixcat9318 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was nice that her holds were pumped full of water to sink her, rather than using explosive charges on her hull. This way was a more respectful way to sink her for her final, noble mission!

  • @felixcat9318
    @felixcat9318 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What a finely constructed vessel she was, with beautifully interconnected timbers. She was certainly an unlucky vessel, often at the hands of those entrusted with her care, and when that much larger steamboat collided with her it sealed her fate, and that of four of her crew. I believe that it is not a bad thing to dive on vessels in which crew have been lost, were I a Crew member lost with my ship I would appreciate that people took an interest and visited and that we weren't forgotten.

  • @felixcat9318
    @felixcat9318 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The images at 4:48 and 5:54 were fantastic, as was your uncovering the ships name plaque at the bow! She certainly took a fatal impact judging by the huge, bow shaped space where her timbers should be, and from the utter destruction of the stern, she appears to have hit the seabed stern first. Subscribed.

    I was surprised to see the galley stove exposed on deck, then I realized that there may have been a wooden cabin over it, but there was no signs of a collapsed cabin or timbers and other wooden cabins remained virtually intact. Did you get to inspect the point of impact which led to the sinking?

  • @felixcat9318
    @felixcat9318 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very interesting shipwreck, the timbers have held up remarkably well over the decades. Thank you for sharing your dive.

  • @felixcat9318

    A good dive in poor visibility on a particularly interesting wreck, which would have hugely benefitted from a narrator giving some detail about the wreck, the Crew, the sinking and its cause or any other relevant information. Alternatively, for the video to have remained sound free in order to not detract from the quietness of the surroundings. But to have put an extremely loud rock soundtrack to this video displays an acute disconnect to the subject of the video and its environment. Thank goodness for the ability to mute this truly hideous blasting noise that ruins an otherwise quite interesting video. Soundtracks like that are a surefire was to ostracise viewers!
