    Very informative video. Did you ever tried the sport seat from BMW which is 2 cm higher (at 840 cm)? I wonder how comfortable it is, because it may be different from the stock seat which is at 820 mm. Otherwise a great bike. Yours looks very nice. Have the SH36 panniers and they work very well. I have also the homemade inner bags. Can check everything on my channel. Cheers.

      Great question, I did indeed consider the sports seat from BMW before I settled on the Sargent precisely because it was a bit higher like you pointed out. Unfortunately my local BMW dealer had none to sit on and it's fairly expensive in the US at well over $500. I had also read a few reports of riders needing bar risers after some wrist issues with the sport seat and I didn't want to mess with that. In the end the Sargent won out on price, customizability, and ease of sending it back. I appreciate the kind words and checked out the SH36s on your Tracer 9, looks great! I also had a pair for years on my Tracer 7 and they were great... and I too have kicked them countless times on tour.

      @@inthewind773 I see. Here, in my country the sport seat comes 50 EUR. This is around 60 dollars, more or less. :) I always liked the R1250R and even the R1200R. Somehow everything it does, it does very well. I get your point. The Shad SH36 are very nice panniers for the money, I am completely satisfied with them. Thanks for checking my video. You can comment also. I mean in general. :) When I watch I always put a comment. Cheers. Gregor. Slovenia.

    Why would I need a converter if I am attaching to the plug and not the battery?

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The nav connection plug still delivers the full voltage of the battery, so it needs to be stepped down to USB's 5V. The benefits of using the plug are 1) that the cable is already neatly run to the front of the bike and 2) that the power is managed by the Canbus system of the bike, so when it's off it's really off. Hope that answers your question, cheers.

    The locks on these cases are a joke. An experienced thief opens them in seconds and quicker than he can cut open or dismount soft luggage. No safety what so ever in these boxes, my man. Also the blinker situation in the back needs adressing. Can't have them that tight as the boxes will waste the lights sooner rather than later, and also not safe because they are even somewhat hidden by the cases. Looks to me like the tail tidy and the boxes isn't best buddies, by your description of the blinkers positioning in original settinng it sounds way better to switch back to that. The Iphone mounting looks very shaky and it looks to me like the phone's zip ties will eventually eat through the fabric on that bag. Also it's not in an ideal position either as your eyes have too far to travel between the phone and the road. It should sit right above your bike's gauges. Regarding the phone, each to his own of course, but a dedicated mororcycle gps like the Garmin zumo models, will not let you down on a longer trip, come rain or high water. This phone will, but I'm guessing you don't want to spend the money on a gps...

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Only fair I respond in kind. You're right, an experienced thief will get into anything quickly, including hard luggage. Luckily most people are good and not lock-picking lawyers with a criminal intent. Hard bags are definitely more secure to prevent quick crimes of opportunity if you're stepping into a restaurant quickly or taking short hike to a waterfall. I think it stands to reason the local meth head would much prefer to simply unclip, unroll and reach into some soft bags than try to mess with hard locks. Over night at your destination you take your stuff inside with you, hence the convenient inner bags. You're right about the tightness of the bags against the tail lights, it's not ideal. Since I much prefer the look of the bike with a tail tidy when the bags are off, the best solution is actually LED blinkers which are quite a bit shorter and would enhance the look of the bike too. Haven't gotten around to it yet, but it's on the list. Finally, about the navigation, as a mentioned in the video it does wiggle around a bit but it's not too bad, and yes, line of sight is always best for navigation. Unfortunately there are no mounts available to go above the dash on these bikes, even BMW's own nav mount is where my bar bag is. I've got a ZumoXT on my other bike, so it has nothing to do with cost, just limited mounting options. I typically use audio cues over visual anyway, and often the phone is inside the bar bag while navigating to prevent it from overheating after hours in the Florida sun. I will say these mosko moto bar bags are darn tough and have a leather-like molle panel in the middle where the zip ties are attached... absolutely no wear from the ties as of yet. Works for me and I simply prefer it to using my handle bar clamp mount. Cheers!

      Thanks, ride it if you get the chance! The decision on the approach pretty easy because it just depends on which side of the pass you're coming from. In the video I ride north to south from Ferleiten to Heiligenblut. South to north is also great and provides a different perspective. Once you get to the end you can always turn around and go back the other way if you've got the time.

    I have the same set up on my 2016, except I have the BMW panniers. Good rec on the seat. I still have the factory seat and it's a drag after 3 hours. Also I lowered my pegs to give me more room...love this bike it can be pretty cramped. (I'm 5'8" but have long legs). Thanks for the vid!

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! It's an excellent and very underrated bike. Besides the padding being uncomfortable after a few hours, I thought the worst thing about the stock seat was the slight forward slope that uncomfortably pushed the crown jewels into the tank after a while. The Sargent has none of this, huge comfort upgrade. I'm OK with the leg position, even though I'm tall it hasn't bothered me even with the lower stock seat. Sometimes I'll sit on the pillion seat for a while to stretch the legs a bit if needed.

Since my bike came naked originally with no sport windshield I got the 8110 with the support arms. I believe if your bike came with the small bug spoiler or already has brackets you want the 8165, at least that's my understanding. Hope that helps.

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure, nobody "needs" a quick shifter, but many would argue it's very nice to have. I suppose that's why BMW now offers it on the new R12 NineT.

    • @zaphodbeeblebrox4574
      @zaphodbeeblebrox4574 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@inthewind773 I would suggest that they are offering it to simply remain 'current' with other manufacturers and for new(ish) riders that haven't mastered the art of riding. As for it being "nice to have" that is equivalent to a confessed sports car driver saying that an automatic gearbox in his Porsche 911 is nice to have ... maybe for him ... but it shows that he is just posing and not really a sports car diver. Even paddle shifts are contentious. Most die hard sports car drivers insist on 5/6 speed manual boxes and would prefer a Mazda Miata with same before a 911 with an automatic. Are you a bike rider or a two wheeled transportation 'enthusiast' ??.

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zaphodbeeblebrox4574 I understand what you're trying to say, but it's a bit of a false analogy. It sounds like you're a car guy, and about the closest thing to an automatic transmission in our world is Honda's DCT transmission, which does all the shifting for you (no manual clutch). Quickshifters have their roots in racing, about the farthest thing away from beginner technology you can get. They allow you to accelerate much faster when banging up the gears out of a corner as well as downshifting far quicker and more smoothly before entering one. If you do ride (my apologies) and have never tried one, I suggest you do, It'll put a huge smile on your face! 👍

This route just has it's own unique combination of beauty, culture and great roads that is unlike anywhere else, and is quite a bit less known and covered in the motorcycle community. Stay tuned to the channel though, I've still got mountains of footage from last season to edit, including some of the more dramatic scenery you're requesting. See you on the road. 👍

    Hi, thank you for the video! Would you be able to make a video on how to install the tail tidy the one on your bike? Thank you for your time!

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you got something from the video! I don't have any video footage for the tail tidy install as this mod was already on the bike when I purchased it. I did have to remove it temporarily when I installed the Shad 3p mounts and if I remember correctly it was a simple case of removing 2 screws with nuts under the rear seat that hold it in place. I didn't notice any additional wiring for the turn signal and license plate light, so I'm sure it's just a case of removing them from the stock tail. Should be a fairly simple install, you can do it! 👍

      Small world, I almost bought an Africa Twin from a dealer in Neu-Ulm a few years back. You also have the wonderful Donautal route right at your doorstep, which I really enjoyed. The best bet to avoid traffic on the Alpenstrasse is no secret: hit the popular passes midweek and as early as possible in the morning hours, but there will always be those bicyclists that get up even earlier than you! :) Danke fürs Zuschauen! 🍻

    Fantastic scenery, excellent roads but constrictive road rules that limit the pleasure of motorcycling.

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. Luckily the scenery, culture and roads make the ride, despite the recent heavy-handed restrictions on the popular passes. On the final day of the route the scenery becomes more rugged and isolated with lots of sweeping sections that really let you open up. Pure motorcycling bliss. Thanks for your comments and for watching!

    well done! In fact, I did the same with a 1250 from 2019. Two reasons for that, the first one being me belonging to the "not that tall" category with short legs. This is the only bike of this range to have a 760mm saddle height without changing anything to the chassis. The second reason is that it remains a roadster with all the fun that goes with it when you ride a lot in the mountains in Europe. The great thing is that it is confortable and stable as well and allows me to ride long roadtrips without fatigue in France, Italy, Austria, UK etc. Compared to your bike, from puig, I added a front fender extension and a rear wheel fender. I love this bike, should Inchange, I would buy the same one. (1300 should arrive soon now 😊)

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your detailed comment! The great thing about this bike is that it fits both shorter riders and tall riders with just the change of a seat. The rear wheel fender in particular is a great idea, I'm considering adding one at some point as I do get quite a bit of wet wheel splash to the bottom of the top case in the rain due to the short fender eliminator kit. You said it... comfortable and stable for touring, but also a ton of fun when the road finally gets twisty. 👍

    Very comprehensive owner's review ! Thanks ! The R, the RS and the RT are on my very short list of options to replace my aging 2003 Suzuki SV1000N, as I find myself traveling ~240 U.S miles to visit a good friend and doing less urban riding than ever. The almost maintenance free and CLEAN driveshaft it's a VERY attractive point for me. I'm sick of cleaning, adjusting and lubing my chain and having to clean the sling off of it caked on my silver rear wheel.

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad to help, any of those 3 R bikes would make great tourers. I hear you on the chain maintenance, not the most enjoyable job, especially at the end of a long day in the saddle. Besides Moto Guzzi and BMW's own retro offerings, the BMW 1200R/1250R is the only modern naked bike with a shaft drive that I'm aware of.

      Glad I was able to inspire some ideas. The 1200R/1250R platform is powerful, easy to handle at low speeds and nimble in the curves, but it also has enough weight to feel firmly planted on long highway stretches. High-speed cruising stability is something I always look for in a touring bike and I'm sure it's something you've grown accustomed to with your Road Glide. Best of luck on picking your next ride!

    Would dearly swap the R Nine T headlight for the Darth Vader one on the R1200R. But as you stated the vintage costume doesn't outweigh the technological attributes of the R1200R. The electronic suspension on the R convinced me to forgo the Nine T and like your good self haven't regretted my decision.

    • @inthewind773
      @inthewind773 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree completely. The R nineT has always been my favorite BMW aesthetically since its release in 2014, but the 1200R/1250R series just has so many practical advantages for touring and taller riders.
