T.S Henderson Cine Film Archive
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ต.ค. 2013
A channel primarily dedicated to showing the cine film archive of my grandad, T.S Henderson (1902 to 1979), of George Henderson & Co, Kelso, Scotland, however I intend to publish some of my own contemporary content.
If my grandad was alive today, he would definitely be referred to as an "early adopter" or a "gadget freak". He always had to have the latest gadget, and being heavily into his photography and filmography, the latest still camera or cine camera.
I did not realise quite how prolific he was with his cine camera until my mum started to get some of his old reels digitised. There is a wealth of material that I am currently sorting through, editing and enhancing the footage as I go.
Areas of interest include:
The Scottish Borders, particularly the Kelso area.
Royal Highland Shows in the 1950's and 1960's.
The area around Seahouses, Northumberland.
Vintage agricultural machinery from the 1950's/60's.

CLAAS Harsewinkel Harvester Demonstration - Scottish Borders Circa 1950's
A demonstration, somewhere in the Scottish Borders (the tractor number plate is a Borders plate) of a CLAAS Harsewinkel harvester. I'm not sure whether this was organised for Geo. Henderson's with a view to them possibly distributing the CLASS machines in the UK post second world war, the company did certainly have some German connections, as they purchased several used nail machines from Germany post war.
CLAAS is an agricultural machinery manufacturer based in Harsewinkel, Germany, in the federal state of North Rhine Westphalia. Founded in 1913 by August Claas, CLAAS is a family business and one of the market and technology leaders in harvesting technology.
After their return from the First World War, the Claas brothers and sisters moved their company to Harsewinkel in 1919, where they bought a disused hard stone factory and continued production. The export of Claas products now also began from Harsewinkel, initially to Holland, France and Belgium.
In 1930, the development of the first CLAAS combine harvester began, initially as machines using the fore-cut principle. The first CLAAS straw baler was produced in 1931. In 1936, the company launched the first combine harvester designed specifically for European harvesting conditions. This was then mass-produced from 1937. Until the production was stopped due to the war in 1943, approx. 1400 machines were produced.
At the same time as the 1000th combine harvester was built in 1942, development of the CLAAS SUPER began. This came onto the market in 1946. By the end of production in 1978, more than 65,000 units had been produced by this combine harvester family.

Geo. Henderson Stand - Massey Harris - Ferguson Agricultural Machinery #masseyharris #ferguson
มุมมอง 1.1Kปีที่แล้ว
This is collection of slides I have recently had professionally digitized, shot by my grandfather T.S Henderson. They are various shots of the Geo. Henderson stand at what I presume to be a Kelso Show, or possibly a Royal Highland Show. There is so much detail in these images, particularly people, that I thought it best to create a "slideshow" with some zoom effects, so as you can see the image...

UPDATE 21/DEC/2022 - I now know that this crew were on their way to Gun Rocks, and the Tyne Tees (ITV) TV van was there to film a week long documentary, unfortunately which seems to have been lost. More info on Gun Rocks here: www.gunrocks.co.uk/ Some archive footage my grandad filmed in 1970 (most likely July) showing a diver crew at Seahouses harbour in Northumberland. This is a new version of the footage I previously posted, from an RNLI Lifeboat event held on a Gala Day in Seahouses harbour, Northumberland. The original video I edited was created from a digitization of the cine film carried out around the year 2000. I had all my grandads cine reels re-digitised in 2022 by a company called Each Moment, using the latest technology at the time - they cleaned t...
Cine Film Conversion - Each Moment - Review & Thoughts
มุมมอง 4232 ปีที่แล้ว
I have just had all nine reels of my grandfathers cine footage digitally converted by the UK company Each Moment - the footage, which this TH-cam channel is built around, covers the 1930's to the 1970's, and focuses mainly on the Scottish Borders, especially Geo. Henderson Ltd and Kelso, agricultural machinery, and the Northumberland coast between Craster and Lindisfarne. I was attracted to Eac...
A Kelso Drive - Scottish Borders
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A quirky little bit of footage I found at the end of one of my grandads cine reels. He has either got my gran to hold his camera, or somehow secured it to his car, and filmed himself driving back from the Border Events Ground, along beside the Tweed, and over the bridge past the Kelso War Memorial and Abbey. If only he had followed his idea through, formed a company, and called it something lik...

My friend Kev Welsh is restoring and old Ferguson TEF20 in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders, and has put together this great wee video of "Hedge to Home" showing the progress he has made since rescuing Harry. Massey Ferguson 65 & 35 Tractor, Plough & Massey Ferguson 711 Potato Harvester
มุมมอง 9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This footage shows what is either a Geo. Henderson & Co. demo event of various agricultural machinery, or has been suggested an RHASS event, possibly a ploughing match. Their are two red tractors, a Massey Ferguson 65 and 35, and the machine with the revolving table and workers on it is a Massey Ferguson 711 Potato Harvester. I'm not sure of the location, however the Geo. Henderson sign around ...
Royal Highland Shows Ingliston 1960, Dundee 1957 & Kelso Show 1950's

This footage shows three different agricultural shows, held at different venues around Scotland. First, we have what has been identified as the very first Royal Highland Show held at Ingliston, just outside Edinburgh, in 1960. This show was attended by HM Queen Elizabeth. and there is footage of the royal party arriving, a Landrover display, crowds, Ingliston House and Scottish Country Dancing....
Harvesting Demonstration In East Lothian 1950's - Cropmaster, Fordson, Nuffield, Ferguson, Whitsed

This is a nice piece of footage showing various agricultural machinery being demonstrated to what looks like a group of potential buyers or dealers. Machinery includes tractors by David Brown (Cropmaster), Fordson (Diesel Major), Nuffield, and Ferguson. Harvesters include a Whitsed produced by Root Harvesters Ltd of Peterborough. Kelso Horse Sales - Vintage Footage
มุมมอง 2832 ปีที่แล้ว
This footage appears to be from one of the regular annual Kelso Horse Sales, and judging by the clothing, maybe the late 1950's or early 1960's? You can see it is being held in Springwood Showground, with well known Kelso landmarks in the background, including Ednam House, St John Spire and Hogarth Mill. I have used a nice cover version of the classic Rolling Stones track "Wild Horses" as the s...
Seahouses - Landing The Catch 1969 Vintage Footage
มุมมอง 1.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A twelve minute long piece of footage shot by my grandfather in 1969. It shows the fishing fleet in Seahouses Harbour unloading their catch onto the quayside, where it is either sold direct to the public, or loaded onto waiting lorries. The original footage from 1969 was of a very low resolution, it contained a lot of "noise" and had an obvious colour cast. I have upscaled the resolution to 108...
Ferguson TEF Tractor and Trencher - 1950's Footage
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This footage shows another Geo. Henderson & Co. demonstration, this time of a trencher attached to a Ferguson TEF tractor, shot in the 1950's. The trencher, as its name suggests, is for digging trenches to put tile drains into fields. The winch on the front is used to provide the forward movement of the tractor (you can't quite see what this winch is anchored to). The handle going back and forw...

Lovely, thank you

These are from the Scottish Borders - my family were Ferguson & latterly Massey Ferguson dealerships for the area in 50's to 80's.
If you needed to stop you needed to immediately shunt back because the straw coming out the roter will back up and wrap round it. Not many of these 415s and 515s about
Excellent old footage.
Is that Black Watch soldiers? Looks like a military exercise, which i dont remember?
I think so - they used to appear each year at the RNLI event.
Look at number of boats in 57, then go to this man's video of 67 and see how many cobbles have disappeared from the harbour! I was up there 5 years ago ,😂 I don't think any boats fish any more just take tourists to the Farne islands. Great place. I wish I could afford to live there! Best regards to Mildred who came riding my motor bike un til we crashed, but we were both OK. But you never got on back again?
Yes, I have an affinity with the Company too! from far away: In the realms of where are they now, Any Idea who the Mannie walking over the Bridge is? Used to sit and have Tea / picnic, later, by the Bench @ Hogarth's Mill. and been to the Displenish Sale up the hill as well... still have some Souvenirs! Thanks for posting all these from the Archives. ... bit like KenDOdd, We, the audience appreciate it...the MAssey stuff too.
do U have any color movies of massey harris tractor dealers or home movies people made W sound of the 1940s 1950s 😊😊 please let me know it would be a great help I haven't been able 2 find anything different that I have seen 😊😊 OMG 9 9 2O23
For those who may be interested, that device at 5-18, is called Multi-Pull, the forerunner to Pressure Control, on MF tractors. Great to watch that MF 65 with a five furrow plough. Although it is working in 'soft' arable land, you can almost see the weight transfer taking place from the plough, adding additional wieght and hence traction to the tractor rear wheels. The geometry of the rear linkage is such, that if imaginary lines were to be projected forward, the intersection of said lines would be the centre of the front axle. This had two benefits; in the horizontal plane, the implement always tracks centrally behind the tractor whilst in the vertical plane, the force generated through the top link, keeps the front of the tractor firmly planted on the ground. This ensures safe and controlled steering, and also prevents the tractor from rearing up, if an obstruction is encountered. Marvellous invention, the Ferguson System !
James, thank you so much for that extra information - that's what makes this TH-cam channel so great, is everyone contributing facts to the videos! Keep 'em coming 👍
@@TSHendersonCineFilmArchive Not a problem, and nice to see that footage from one of the original Ferguson Dealerships of the era. 😊
At that speed, 2 things will happen, end up bunging crop up inside, some poor bugger has to scramble inside to un block, but just as bad, 30% of crop will be laid in field instead of in its tank.
Interesting Andy, I never knew that....and obviously, neither did they! 🤣
thanks very much harrys legacy lives on
Hi Charlie, thanks - glad you enjoyed the video. Plenty more footage to come, once I get round to editing it, and uploading it here 👍
I was 9 then , my grandad had a caravan on the Seaview with a fantastic look over towards the sea . It was all open then , lovely putting green and room to play on hot balmy summer nights . Now , completely ruined looks awful , the whole front is terrible !
Great memories, I agree about all the building and ruined views, unfortunately happening in many places. The dreadful thing is, a lot are holiday homes or for rent - the poor local workforce get priced out of living near their place of work.
@@TSHendersonCineFilmArchive Yes , i was a young boy at the time but it did look and feel a lot better in the 60's and early 70's , when i went there every summer holiday for 6 weeks . Its just not the same anymore and will never be again ! . . . .
T.S Henderson Cine Film Archive, YOU ARE A TOTAL arse h---l, You broke my hart seeing this clip from when i was young, Ahhhh, Thanks so much my friend i mean it. Chris .

Wow! - great to hear they are still going strong, my grandad would be very pleased.
Same I have a Ted still one of our main tractors
You could have this taken down for Music copyright strike
No, it’s a cover version, and the band allow its use.
Just come across this absolutely fantastic footage, does John, Pauline, Hazel, Clare and Andrew Swallow ring a bell, l have a special relationship with that whole lovely family and their history, too much to put on here.
Hi Glenn, thanks your kind comments, glad you enjoyed the video - I have actually had all my grandfathers footage redigitized by a company that uses modern techniques and equipment, so I will eventually be uploading a better version of this video. The surname Swallow does ring a bell - I'll ask my mum if she knows, she would know better than I would, she and my grandparents holidayed on Northumberland 40's to 80's...I was born in early 60's, so maybe the wrong decade.
@@TSHendersonCineFilmArchive thank you for the quick reply, John Swallow’s mum and dad were residents of Seahouses, quite posh as well, my new wife and l had the pleasure of staying at Johns mum on our honeymoon for a week, Pauline’s dad, Andrew Robinson farmed at l believe Tughall, to this day Pauline’s youngest daughter Judy and her husband are still farming that very same farm, just a quick explanation on how we became acquainted with the Swallow family, back in 1963, Andrew Robinson ventured out to purchase another farm on which he purchased 110 acres Westfield Farm, North Kelsey, Lincs, Westfield Farm was only 1/4 mile next to my mum and dads farm (Minnitts Farm) which was situated along side the river ancholme, Westfield farm was to be run by John and Pauline along with an acquaintance Neil Scott and his wife Fiona to be their held as a farm worker, the enterprise was to be a barley beef farm, new buildings and one tower silo was erected, after a couple of years trying to make this farm profitable, it was decided by Andrew that beef farming wasn’t viable so he then decided in 1965 to start milking cows, (80 cows) they then added on another building and a second tower silo, this worked up to a point but was still struggling, so after three years, John and Pauline asked my mum and dad if they would consider being partners and join the two farm together making the acreage to 170 acres, this proved to be a success, I’ll leave it there because there’s a lot more to this story but at the end of the day, we were fortunate to get to know and be involved with the Swallows and the Robinson’s, very happy memories, on another quick note, the fish shop in Seahouses called Swallow Fish is of course once John Swallows enterprise but l think you’ll already know this?
Great video, thank you for posting
Thanks Alistair, glad you enjoyed it - plenty more to come, when I get time to process them!
Thanks again for a lovely film. The fishing boat John Wesley was skipperd by Tommy Trotter. She was built by Millers of St Monance in Fife. Trotters still run the bakers. Nice food!
Wow, thanks for that excellent info! - I have a friend who has a property in St Monans, he will be very interested to hear this.
The Cannon shown at the end of the film clip was lifted on Sunday 12th July 1970, so the filming must have been done then, or in the week leading up to it. More information can be found in the 1970 report: www.gunrocks.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Harvey-Report-Scan.pdf
Thanks for that extra information Nic!
Great film!
Glad you enjoyed it Charles - more to come!
Great video for anyone who knows Seahouses, the RNLI and the North East. My Aunty Bunty fell off that harbour wall into the mud at low tide when a young girl in the 30's! I remember seeing a similar manoeuvre between the Whitby lifeboat and an RAF Sea King helicopter during the 'Whitby Regatta' in the early 70's but it wasn't a human "casualty" that got winched up it was a box of kippers!
Hey, thanks for the kind comments Jacques - wow, some fall for your Aunty 😱 !love the box of kippers story 🤣
Cheers Mr Henderson. In them days it was called Flooding, now it’s called global warming. Very strange world we live in today. I also love your footage of seahouses as most of my childhood memories are from there. Cheers. 🇬🇧🏆👍
Thanks for the lovely feedback - working on Seahouses footage as we speak!
Excellent!
Glad you liked the video Charles - more to come!
Hi can I send you an image I would like a type of film identified. Thanks
Hi, sure…email it to me 👍🏻
Look forward to seeing more footage. I did a week of work experience at Henderson"s in the late 80s. You might remember my dad, Kenny Jack, who was a ghillie at Hendersyde.
Wow Marie - my Papa (my dad's dad) worked for the Hendersyde estate as well - he was a woodsman and also looked after the jumps on Kelso Racecourse - my dad was born and raised in Hendersyde North Lodge.
Ah fantastic. We lived at Sharpitlaw until I was 9, then Edenmouth. The footage of the 1948 flood showed Sharpitlaw. Lovely place to grow up.
Another lovely film. Thank you. Lifeboat Day was the big event on the Northumberland Coast. Usually August Bank Holiday. The guy helping people into the launch I think was Bill Weeks. A promoter of Northumbrian food and culture. Interesting to see the Trinity House cutter moored in the inner harbour. They had a store ashore and used the cutter to service the Farne lighthouses. If you ever go there, the Ship Inn is like a museum!! Thanks again.
Thanks so much for your comments! My grandfather owned a house in Seahouses (a caravan in Beadnell before that) so I am very familiar with the area, both as a child and as an adult - I was down there in July, and had a few beers in the Ship Inn! A great pub. Plenty more footage to come - I have just had all the reels of cine film professionally digitized using the latest technology, much better clarity (I'm currently working on a TH-cam video about this process and what company I used...it will be uploaded soon). So, not only will there be new, clearer footage, I will eventually go and redo the current videos with the improved versions.
Wow , what memories ! Seems just like yesterday , my grandad was Dick Ewart and he had a caravan on Seaview where i went every summer holiday from Newcastle . I was 9 in 1969 , i could watch these all day long gives me goosebumps ! . . . Thankyou ! . . .
What a lovely sight to see the harbour full of boats. In the first clip I'm sure the majority of boats were after the herring. Drifters and ringnetters rather than trawlers. I can remember just such a sight and the smell of fish and tarred nets. Thanks for some nice footage of a lost tradition.
Thanks for the lovely comment - I have just had all the cine film reels redigitised by a new firm (hence the lack of uploads for a few months), so plenty more footage to come...I will probably end up redoing all the current videos with the new, clearer footage.
Best combine MF ever made. They stretched the design for the 525 and 625 and then the problems started.
That's interesting, I was not aware of that.
Majors going by the reg mark was registered in Nov 55, Nuffield looks to be September 55 going by the number - SS as a prefix was stopped in November 55 , Id suggest the majors are new in the video as the one in the loader still has overspray on the rams lol
Thanks so much for that valuable information Jim, much appreciated! 👍🏻
Lovely to watch - thank you for sharing!
My please Rosalinde - plenty more footage to come! 👍🏻
@@TSHendersonCineFilmArchive Witch year was this ? Filmed ? ;)

Thank you so much Marie, glad you enjoyed this historic footage! 👍🏻
Truly amazing. A time we will never see again.
Glad you enjoyed it, yes…a bygone era.
Lovely old film .I remember about 25 years ago getting some plough points at the foundry Kelso .also have a few tractors in my collection sold by Geo Henderson .
Ah that’s Brilliant Stuart - nice to hear from previous Henderson customers 👍🏻
Excellent!!
Aye, Kev has been working very hard on this project!
i owned 2 T V O little gray Ferguson tractors i all ways thought the Perkins engine one was the best specially if fitted with reduction gear box i remember you could skin your knuckles on the raised bonnet with sharp turns of the steering wheel all ways thought the 35 was a vast improvement keep the video coming
Ha! - great memories Robert! Don't worry, plenty more video to come...I have quite a few reels to get through :-)
looks nice sandy loamy soil the 65 was a rare tractor in our area plenty of 35 and later 135

Great film and so clear too nice to see a MF 35 like ours when they were new👍
Glad you enjoyed the footage Paul, and to hear your 35 is going strong 💪🏻
It's not a Massey it's a Ferguson!
Oops…you are quite correct David, I shall sort that 👍🏻

I bought a 1957 ferguson diesel in 1978 for £600 worked it weekly sold it for £650 in 1987. Fuel lift pump lever broke, metal fatigue.. No other trouble. It was smoking at the end and would never start in frosty weather. Tried to buy it back. It is now like new and not for sale.
Yes Andrew, a lot of people restoring these old tractors these days.
Visited the Highland show this year it's so heartwarming to see what it was like in 1960 thanks for sharing 👍
My pleasure Paul, glad you enjoyed the footage - plenty more to come!
Apparently the yellow car at the end of the film is a 1902 Panhard Levassor which now resides in Dunbeath Castle Caithness. It resided in Greenlaw for many years under the care of Bob Young of the county garage who used it to transport the Greenlaw maid for many years.
Another fantastic video. So much too see in these films.
Thanks Jacques, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, all the little details, like the clothes they are wearing, the vintage stands and machinery etc.
