CLAAS Harsewinkel Harvester Demonstration - Scottish Borders Circa 1950's
A demonstration, somewhere in the Scottish Borders (the tractor number plate is a Borders plate) of a CLAAS Harsewinkel harvester. I'm not sure whether this was organised for Geo. Henderson's with a view to them possibly distributing the CLASS machines in the UK post second world war, the company did certainly have some German connections, as they purchased several used nail machines from Germany post war.
CLAAS is an agricultural machinery manufacturer based in Harsewinkel, Germany, in the federal state of North Rhine Westphalia. Founded in 1913 by August Claas, CLAAS is a family business and one of the market and technology leaders in harvesting technology.
After their return from the First World War, the Claas brothers and sisters moved their company to Harsewinkel in 1919, where they bought a disused hard stone factory and continued production. The export of Claas products now also began from Harsewinkel, initially to Holland, France and Belgium.
In 1930, the development of the first CLAAS combine harvester began, initially as machines using the fore-cut principle. The first CLAAS straw baler was produced in 1931. In 1936, the company launched the first combine harvester designed specifically for European harvesting conditions. This was then mass-produced from 1937. Until the production was stopped due to the war in 1943, approx. 1400 machines were produced.
At the same time as the 1000th combine harvester was built in 1942, development of the CLAAS SUPER began. This came onto the market in 1946. By the end of production in 1978, more than 65,000 units had been produced by this combine harvester family.

Geo. Henderson Stand - Massey Harris - Ferguson Agricultural Machinery #masseyharris #ferguson
มุมมอง 1.1Kปีที่แล้ว
This is collection of slides I have recently had professionally digitized, shot by my grandfather T.S Henderson. They are various shots of the Geo. Henderson stand at what I presume to be a Kelso Show, or possibly a Royal Highland Show. There is so much detail in these images, particularly people, that I thought it best to create a "slideshow" with some zoom effects, so as you can see the image...

The original video I edited was created from a digitization of the cine film carried out around the year 2000. Cine Film Conversion - Each Moment - Review & Thoughts

I have just had all nine reels of my grandfathers cine footage digitally converted by the UK company Each Moment - the footage, which this TH-cam channel is built around, covers the 1930's to the 1970's, and focuses mainly on the Scottish Borders, especially Geo. Henderson Ltd and Kelso, agricultural machinery, and the Northumberland coast between Craster and Lindisfarne. I was attracted to Eac...
A Kelso Drive - Scottish Borders

A quirky little bit of footage I found at the end of one of my grandads cine reels. He has either got my gran to hold his camera, or somehow secured it to his car, and filmed himself driving back from the Border Events Ground, along beside the Tweed, and over the bridge past the Kelso War Memorial and Abbey. If only he had followed his idea through, formed a company, and called it something lik...

Kelso Horse Sales - Vintage Footage

This footage appears to be from one of the regular annual Kelso Horse Sales, and judging by the clothing, maybe the late 1950's or early 1960's? You can see it is being held in Springwood Showground, with well known Kelso landmarks in the background, including Ednam House, St John Spire and Hogarth Mill. I have used a nice cover version of the classic Rolling Stones track "Wild Horses" as the s...

It shows the fishing fleet in Seahouses Harbour unloading their catch onto the quayside, where it is either sold direct to the public, or loaded onto waiting lorries. For those who may be interested, that device at 5-18, is called Multi-Pull, the forerunner to Pressure Control, on MF tractors. Great to watch that MF 65 with a five furrow plough. Although it is working in 'soft' arable land, you can almost see the weight transfer taking place from the plough, adding additional wieght and hence traction to the tractor rear wheels. The geometry of the rear linkage is such, that if imaginary lines were to be projected forward, the intersection of said lines would be the centre of the front axle. This had two benefits; in the horizontal plane, the implement always tracks centrally behind the tractor whilst in the vertical plane, the force generated through the top link, keeps the front of the tractor firmly planted on the ground. This ensures safe and controlled steering, and also prevents the tractor from rearing up, if an obstruction is encountered. Marvellous invention, the Ferguson System !

@@TSHendersonCineFilmArchive thank you for the quick reply, John Swallow’s mum and dad were residents of Seahouses, quite posh as well, my new wife and l had the pleasure of staying at Johns mum on our honeymoon for a week, Pauline’s dad, Andrew Robinson farmed at l believe Tughall, to this day Pauline’s youngest daughter Judy and her husband are still farming that very same farm, just a quick explanation on how we became acquainted with the Swallow family, back in 1963, Andrew Robinson ventured out to purchase another farm on which he purchased 110 acres Westfield Farm, North Kelsey, Lincs, Westfield Farm was only 1/4 mile next to my mum and dads farm (Minnitts Farm) which was situated along side the river ancholme, Westfield farm was to be run by John and Pauline along with an acquaintance Neil Scott and his wife Fiona to be their held as a farm worker, the enterprise was to be a barley beef farm, new buildings and one tower silo was erected, after a couple of years trying to make this farm profitable, it was decided by Andrew that beef farming wasn’t viable so he then decided in 1965 to start milking cows, (80 cows) they then added on another building and a second tower silo, this worked up to a point but was still struggling, so after three years, John and Pauline asked my mum and dad if they would consider being partners and join the two farm together making the acreage to 170 acres, this proved to be a success, I’ll leave it there because there’s a lot more to this story but at the end of the day, we were fortunate to get to know and be involved with the Swallows and the Robinson’s, very happy memories, on another quick note, the fish shop in Seahouses called Swallow Fish is of course once John Swallows enterprise but l think you’ll already know this?

i owned 2 T V O little gray Ferguson tractors i all ways thought the Perkins engine one was the best specially if fitted with reduction gear box i remember you could skin your knuckles on the raised bonnet with sharp turns of the steering wheel all ways thought the 35 was a vast improvement keep the video coming

I bought a 1957 ferguson diesel in 1978 for £600 worked it weekly sold it for £650 in 1987. Fuel lift pump lever broke, metal fatigue.. No other trouble. It was smoking at the end and would never start in frosty weather. Tried to buy it back. It is now like new and not for sale.

Visited the Highland show this year it's so heartwarming to see what it was like in 1960 thanks for sharing 👍

Apparently the yellow car at the end of the film is a 1902 Panhard Levassor which now resides in Dunbeath Castle Caithness. It resided in Greenlaw for many years under the care of Bob Young of the county garage who used it to transport the Greenlaw maid for many years.

Thanks Jacques, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, all the little details, like the clothes they are wearing, the vintage stands and machinery etc.
