Volvo 240 B230FT conversion
I normally do my own work but time, equipment and knowledge meant that getting some experts to do an engine swap was a better way of doing this.
So
B230FT engine from a 940
Standard 240 gearbox
New flywheel
New harness
Wasted spark ignition upgrade
Pretty much everything else is direct transplant from the 940

Hey man, b200e here. I've gone through an entire injection overhaul after almost 10 years that my dad put the car to sleep. From rear to front, I cleaned the tank, changed both fuel pumps, new fuel filter, new fuel pressure regulator, new injectors, WUR rebuilt (cold and warm pressures ok), head skimmed and new valves, new plugs, new cap and rotor. After all that done the car still runs kinda shaky. I messed a bit with the ignition advance and found that the car was running 20° idle. I've tried to get it to factory specs close to 10° at 750rpm and I still had a shaky idle, it defintely improved but not as smooth as I've seen in other videos. Recently I installed a wideband and adjusted the mixture close to 1%/14.1 and now it's running at 14.4-14.6 at idle and still not smooth. I will check the valve clearances as last resort. Car is running fine nonetheless. I've been working on this car since 2020 and I'm finally seen some results and it's road worthy again
Love ❤️ this car but in Lebanon it's finishing what can I do
Yeah I'm working on mine got it from eBay too open to look as good as yours
Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Having similar issues with my 740
Nope - still has a little stammer Getting the air/fuel mix measured and sorted this week as it's defo running rich
@@problemchild1976 I’m interested to see what you find out. Is the exhaust pipe sooty?
@@lewisfuller2911 no not really. The garage tweaked it today to get it through the MOT but I don't see any different tbh
@@problemchild1976 another quick question, do you hear the fuel pump prime when turning the key to first ignition position? I’m not sure if the K-jet stores pressure for primes on the key? I’m wondering if constant fuel pressure may have something to do with it?
@@lewisfuller2911 erm...... maybe The fuse for the pump sometimes becomes dislodged and while I don't hear the fuel pump, there is a noise when I fiddle the fuses and then it starts
Is it going to be out and about this summer?
Not sure mate - need to get it through an MOT but will try if time allows
How much would it ruin your day to ask what paint you used on the trim? The stuff just below the window scrapers! That turned out great!!! The whole thing really Been debating on grabbing an eraser wheel to my black trim and then repainting it but not a clue what I’d use
It was stone guard paint - probably not the best idea
freaking photo slide show. can’t be bothered to waste 16 minutes watching it.
That's no probs - 16mins for the whole build is a good summary ;) I'm not tavarish ;)
where can I purchase one?
Contact XeoStar on Tamiya club . Com
Здравствуйте размер дисков и резины можете написать пожалуйста
Amazing work. Would you be interested in doing the same on my 1993 Torslanda??
Haha
How did you fix it? Where is radio located?
I believe a hard reset worked - it's was some time ago
Had you any bother getting the wheels to fit/ not rub?
Yeah a little Had to raise the back to standard and put slightly narrower tyres on them
did you make that roof rack yourself? it looks amazing
No it's an original volvo part 👍🏻
Great work ,it was a decent example but you've made it outstanding.I don't think mine will be that good but now I want to try, once I've fixed all the little gremlins.
Still not great
This video reminded me of the time I laid an abo egg, up Tuncurry way.
Interested in how this works out - same issue on the 240 (my daughter) has inherited from her granddad. Done pretty much the same as you have but tried the spray can vacuum leak trick but no change (spray brake cleaner sparingly around manifold and around pipe work but no change in running). Its been 6months since the last comment so hoping you have made some progress as we have only just started this week (May 2023)
Nothing I can put my finger on tbh I'm only getting 20mpg also so I think it's also running rich
@@arniepa thanks - had all the plugs out and gapped them properly just in case but they were spot on - I'll take a look at the mixture adjustment
@@problemchild1976 finding some gold videos on the fuel system th-cam.com/video/Ax6O6Zhxx0E/w-d-xo.html - 2 minute mark he covers the mixture setting - so need to find my mixture tool
Could you add links to where you bought some of the parts please? - looking to restore my (now) late father in-laws 240GLT "F" reg and bushes and brakes being high on our list - along with water pump, radiator and thermostat .... then there is anything else we find on the way

What is the offset on those wheels? And do you use spacers?

Great keeping these amazing vehicles alive. I've got a 960 2.5 estate that I've owned from new. Now 27 years old, taking longer to get through the MOT each year, but that's because I can't get original parts now.
The community is pretty good at sourcing parts - classic swede and brookhouse in the UK or IPD in the US
Outstanding job...welldone!!😀
Thank you :)
What a transformation with minor changes
Cheers mate - good rotary polish made a bid difference
You cannot beat having a clean Volvo... awesome vehicles.. no Matter what the haters say.

Great work whe I first started work in 1987 in a factory thses cars would come up on notice board for workers to buy at a discount .they were our company x sales rep cars a few bought them I considered it but never did wasn't a teenager car .but looking back they are icons an amazing design yours looks fantastic
Yeah defo wasn't a teen car then - it is now. I bought this off a young lad and bought the wheels off a young lad too
Nice job👍👍👍. Did you find out what caused the original engine to die? I'm gonna have a look at a similar car next weekend, and I dont know much about them. I would be really grateful for any heads up... Jan
No engine swap (that I know of) Focus on rust as it's the hardest to fix - arches and spare wheel well. Trim pieces are expensive to get hold of. Otherwise normal bits for any other car. Check what engine Type of fuel delivery (carb, k-jet or normal injection) Fluid leaks are common so don't worry too much
Wonderful video, enjoyed watching it and see that you spent a mini fortune to transform the car for the better. Hope you finally get around to sorting out that rust properly.
Thanks - defo not mini fortune. Parts are cheap and labour is free. Wheels were most expensive at £700 inc tyres
@@problemchild1976 Mate £700 is a mini fortune to me 😂, but I know what you mean 😜
@@VWApachey 4 tyres cost £300 ;) Total outlay to get to this is around £4k (inc car)

Love your vid mate… I done the gearbox on mine with a washer and now I have it running on a brushless motor and 2s lipo and hitting mid 20’s… the 18t pinion gear I put in was a fun experiment as well 🫣 lol
Yeah inside the gearbox does help but doesn't stop the sides spreading The speed is great fun - I had to make a wheelie bar
Absolutely love your Volvo 🥰 what a beauty 😍

Man, that's beautiful and an inspiration. I was on the fence between a 240 and a Mercedes W123, but I think you just made my mind up.
I think the 240 utterly fits and gets so many looks The W123 is a nice car but has classic looks rather than retro The Volvo is so easy to work on too and I love the fact they used a 12mm for the nut and a 13mm for the bolt head - genius
where did you get the springs? I have a 88 wagon that needs new ones.
I use classic swede in the uk I think in the US there us IPD
Brilliant! I have a 240 Super Polar myself. All you need now is the B204FT engine and that thing goes like a stabbed rat. 💨
Thanks mate - love the car
Great job! thanks for keeping this 240 on the road! I love the clear indicators on your car
Thanks mate - the cars are worth it 👍🏻
