I don't get frustrated in life unless I have to deal with wrong people. It's a privilege to be capable of doing stuff which most people can't. People are dealing with much worse things. Soldiers stay in harsh conditions. Reading is nothing in comparison to that. We may get bored then we switch or rest or do something else. We may not be able understand it in one go then we seek help or give it another try next day. We may not be interested in that topic then we find something of our interest. Getting frustrated never solves anything.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been fortunate to explore all these things naturally. Years ago, I accepted the world as it is and decided to flow with it. For someone like me, self-exploration through my own experiences and failures works best. I don’t set goals for anything I do. I left high-paying jobs because they didn’t bring me joy. My PhD happened only because I enjoyed it-if I hadn’t, I would have quit that too. Acting is my way of truly living in the present and experiencing a spiritual journey by stepping into another character’s life. I never started it with any big ambitions, which is why I’ve always declined paid acting work so far. Maybe in the future, I’ll pursue it as a career, but for now, my main focus is research. Fitness, poetry, and TH-cam have followed a similar path. Fitness, specifically, comes naturally to me, and over the years, I’ve gone through different routines and multiple transformations. At one point, I maintained 7% body fat with a 40 bpm resting heart rate while balancing my academic commitments. I don’t train for aesthetics; I love the intensity and aggression in the workout. I moved away from slow, heavy lifts and bodybuilding-style routines long ago because my workouts have evolved into something much more intense and instinctive. Now, here’s something I truly want to highlight. Having engaged in physical, artistic, and academic pursuits at a high level, I can say without hesitation that academics, especially earning a PhD, is the most difficult. While the risks in sports or art are different, the sheer mental grind of academics, without the inherent pleasure you get from other fields, is unmatched. Earning a PhD is 1000 times harder than excelling in athletics or art. A Fields Medal or Turing Award is on a level that simply can’t be compared with other achievements. In academics, the sacrifices are enormous, often with little recognition-many dedicate a decade to research, representing India at conferences, and yet go unnoticed. It's a hard, long journey with far fewer rewards than other paths.

Honestly, your approach sounds like a Zen master who's turned his life into an art form whether it's in fitness, acting, or research. No, I’m currently pursuing only PhD. PhD students often need to travel abroad for research, if required. The scholarship is quite sufficient to cover expenses. Currently, it amounts to around 37,000 to 42,000 after two years, and students spend very little on food and accommodation if they are staying in a hostel.

First, let's talk specifics. The video is 5 minutes long, with 3 minutes dedicated to research life, something one can't find and 1 minute addressing the question. That’s 20% of the video, making it highly efficient. Second, my channel features a mix of content from my life, not solely centered around education. The internet is inundated with 'information-only' videos that I often find repetitive and unengaging. Instead, I share relevant aspects of my career and personal interests, like fitness, without rehashing the same ideas. Clickbait often buries or omits the real content altogether, which isn’t my approach. There’s no clickbait here; I simply don’t have time for that. As the title suggests, this is a vlog and vlogs include a variety of activities, with research being a significant part of my day. I strive to create a vlog that adds value-combining insightful information with engaging content. Moreover, the content fits my schedule and is preferable to not sharing anything at all. As a student at IISc, it’s challenging to find time to plan and record videos. However, capturing moments while I work and sharing useful information along the way makes it manageable. If the content doesn’t resonate with you, that’s perfectly okay; it sometimes takes time to find what connects with us. I don’t post to chase views or subscribers; I post what I enjoy, and if others find value in it, that’s great. If someone has a question, I make sure to respond because I feel responsible to help when I can. Rather than just explaining things, I show the real day-to-day life of a researcher, which I believe offers more genuine insight. Many viewers have found clarity and motivation from these authentic videos, with some even gaining admission to IISc or IIT-not because of flashy content, but because they connected with something real. That’s always been my goal-not gaining random subscribers, which is easy enough in today’s online world. I aim to offer something genuine, not content driven by views. For those who don’t connect with the content, that’s perfectly fine-they’re free to skip or move on. I prefer having viewers who resonate with me as a person, not just the content. Even if that’s just a few hundred people, it’s worth it to me.

They talk too much other than the ground-level things. The moment I see your video, I click, because they are too soothing and motivating along with very genuine information. I tend to ignore such comments when I’m busy, as they usually come from people who’ve already made up their minds and aren’t seeking clarification. For example, a comment like, 'From the title, I expected a detailed discussion on a specific topic, but it was a vlog. Could you share more, or maybe create a video on it when you have time?' expresses the same concern politely. Anyone would be happy to respond to that. We need to stop judging and jumping to conclusions so quickly. In my previous response, I clarified the content. I’m not a typical creator who makes content just to chase subscribers. Titles like 'Truth About Placements,' 'How to Get Admission,' 'Corporate Salaries,' 'How to Grow Your Biceps,' or 'Which Supplements to Take' are designed to attract views, and TH-cam is flooded with such videos. That’s not my aim. Showing the real life of a PhD student has value for many people. The title reflects the main point of the video, and if someone isn’t interested in parts of the content, they can skip them. If they have further questions, they always ask in the comments. I will create focused content on certain topics, but that depends on my time and availability. Sharing insights while I’m working helps me save time. People always reach out for more information if needed. If there’s a difference in interest-whether between partners, a student and teacher, or a creator and viewer-parting ways is fine. It saves time for everyone, and there’s nothing negative about it. What someone considers 'kabaad' holds real value for others. Changing it would deprive those who find meaning in it. If we were selling a product, like a movie, we would have a responsibility to please customers because of the financial element involved. But here, we aren’t selling anything. If someone likes the content, that’s great; if not, that’s fine too. The same goes for many things in life. People often get outraged over movies they don’t like, when they could simply choose not to watch them-just like many great films that go unnoticed.

It all depends on you. Any commitment won't allow frequent home visits anyway. For PhD also, one has to work consistently without lot of breaks. All are same with respect to that.

Absolutely not. One can get a job immediately after PhD without even trying in both industry and academics as long as the PhD is good. Getting the job of choice is not easy say, if someone wants to get a faculty position at IITs.

There is nothing like the toughest one. All fields come with their own difficulties and benefits. Interesting depends on candidate. Some people like theoretical side such as algorithms, cryptography, graph theory, quantum computing, some like systems such as compilers, os, databases, some like the ML side either theory or applications. Some choose depending on opportunities. ML is popular since it has lot of opportunities and scope. One has to read and explore gradually to find his or her interest.

Amazon isn’t the best place to draw a comparison. The pressure there often stems from factors unrelated to the actual work-things like unclear goals, lack of motivation, or tasks that feel disconnected from your personal growth. In contrast, a PhD, especially at a place like IISc, is about tackling meaningful problems you care about. If you’ve cracked Amazon, you’re definitely capable of handling a PhD. The key difference is patience and consistent effort, which are much easier when you're genuinely motivated by your research. Choosing the right area and advisor can make the PhD journey much less stressful. Plus, IISc's environment is a huge bonus: great campus life, weather, food, and the flexibility to pursue other interests. With smart time management, you can even carve out space for creativity, as you can see in my videos.

If you are sure that you want to pursue PhD in future then it is better go direct. But if one lacks in capability to get a PhD opportunity of choice then it's better to work on improvement for sometime because PhD is long commitment. There shouldn't be a big compromise in terms of preference.

It's world's no. 1 research university so excellent research environment and everything one can expect from a PhD.

It's not. Research doesn't end at work. For a researcher, every activity in a day has a research component and detailing. I hope you can notice that now. 🙂

1. Start extremely healthy diet and daily workouts. Doctors are also human and can be wrong. 2. Use of laptop is almost everywhere these days. Look for non-coding profiles, use printouts to read. 3. Research that doesn't require coding can be pursued. Research papers can be read using hard copies. Probably the theoretical research such as pure math etc.

After BSc, people go for masters and PhD to pursue research further. They end up in academics, their own start ups or some corporate job that aligns with their interest. Just with BSc, you may not get some great job since people just study the basics in undergrad. At IISc, companies dominantly hire MTech people or if some PhD wants to go for placement. I have seen some Math guys going for jobs after BS but most pursue direct PhDs after undergrad.
