those tools that weld copper nail to steel - then pull with slide hammer - work good also dt 250 I had got small dent in header pipe - made bike a little faster
Yes that would be good on the smaller dents. Heat and air pressure doesn't work as well on the small deep dents as it does on the larger ones. Thanks for watching !
Pressure washer would’ve done the job without heat
As I said in the video I'm showing how I did it , there are no doubt multiple ways to do it. Thanks for watching !
@ good work none the less I was just adding another way to do it especially for ppl without heat from a torch but I do think a plumbing torch would work too. BTW great job and thank you for making this video!!!
I have a Montesa Cota 349 with a one piece tank seat that the factory original clearcoat bubbled up just on the tank area but not the seat part. After sanding & polish should I reclear, if so what clear coat. What's your opinion on 2k clear coat.
I assume its all plastic ? Plastic is not easy to paint. It probably bubbled on the tank from the gas inside . Its really hard to stop a decal from bubbling on a plastic gas tank once you put gas in it . My advice would be to visit your local autobody supply and get their advice . Sometimes they suggest an adhesion promoter and or a flex agent for plastic painting. If you are going to ride it it could be hard to keep the clear coat on there. Thanks for watching.
Easier to fill it with water, plug the ends and throw it in the freezer over night.
As I said in the video I'm showing how I did it , there are no doubt multiple ways to do it. Thanks for watching !
🏍👍👍👍
Pipe and silencer look awesome!! Well done and thanks for the tips!!
Thankyou !
Now that was a helpful video! About how long did the heating and hammer tapping take to get those dents out?
About 10 minutes or so , at first 10 psi wasn't enough so I slowly raised to 30 psi so a lot of the footage I cut out since it didn't really add anything. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video , very cool before and after footage. Good skills to know.
I just got me one 2 days ago riding a few times a day
Right on ! Thanks for watching
Hi, nice job looks great. Can you restore one of these for a customer ? My gold swingarm on my 86 Honda XL600R has a big dent in it. I’d like to have a donor restored to brand new gold with the stickers. Please let me know. There’s a nice donor on Ebay right now. Thanks
Thanks . No I don't really do custom work , I make the videos to show people how I do it. I'm not familiar with your swingarm , if it was anodized you'll have to find a place that does that . If it was originally painted or clear coated you can look at one of my older videos of a CR swingarm that I did . Thanks for watching !
Awesome! I like your no nonsense videos!!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm still finding my niche on youtube. I don't think I'm an entertainer , probably more like trying to share what I know , hopefully it helps people along the way. Thanks for watching
Looks great ! Where did you get the bearings for the linkages ? I found the swing arm bearings for my 83 it175 but i can’t find the linkage bearings.
Hi, I ordered the two needle bearings for the link from Yamaha. The rest of the rubber bushings didn't need replacing. Check partszilla for what's still available from Yamaha. Thanks for watching !
Great job, great paint match, it looks good as new 👍
Thanks I appreciate it !
Another great video. Keep up the good work
Thankyou for watching !
this rebuild series has actually saved me from so much struggling while trying to rebuild my old dirtbike thank you so much man these videos are a life saver
Thankyou , and thanks for watching !
Great video, definitely learned a few things i didn’t know !
Hey , thanks for watching !
Nice work, great content, keep the videos coming Thanks
Thanks for watching !
Great video mate, engine looks spot on, 👌
Thank you !
I can relate I’ve fixed 3 it125 in the past 2years
Right on ! Thanks for watching.
That bearing ball is for the clutch pressure plate, goes in the hole first. Im building same IT, quite close to the finish right now
Hi , yes I downloaded a manual and I know where it goes now but thanks for letting me know and thanks for watching !
@@whatshappeningintheshop Did you get to the point when you install new throttle cable off ebay and it is too short? I did today 😆
@@Ch4llenger440 Lol no but that has happened to me before , some of that chinese made stuff is junk
@@whatshappeningintheshop True, when it comes to levers and cables I always go all original, but when it comes to 70s and 80s stuff its not always so easy. That swingarm axle was salvageable, you just need to know how to deal with it from the get go
I am also building a 83 it, i’m close to finishing up my engine, after that restoring everything else, painting the frame, refurbishing plastics, new bushings, etc
What oil do you use for yours honda’s motor
I put yamalube 2R in because thats what I had on hand and used back in the day for my CR's
Great video! I'm restoring a WR250F so I will be using your method. Too many people use gas torches which just brings the oils in the plastics to the surface and makes it brittle. and not the proper method you have done. Those little bits you did with the torch are on much thicker stronger parts too.
Thanks ! Yeah I try not to use the torch much but some areas are hard to get the buffer in . Its a lot of work to do a tank but just have to stick with it. Thanks for watching
Hi, I had a 1978 DT175 in the eighties. I liked the design of it, but the head gasket always blew through because the iron head bolts came out of the aluminum cylinder... To prevent the piston from seizing, I had to use a very large carb jet. Never got this problem fixed and then changed to four strokes... Watching your video I noticed that your engine had the chain on the right side unlike most japanese motobikes. But cylinder and head look similar to mine. Good luck with your restauration!
Thanks ! Yes yamaha in the early 80's had the sprocket on the opposite side . I have never ridden an IT so looking forward to learning and restoring as I go.
Guaranteed to get seized bolts in a bike that old, but you got the patience for it.💯
Thanks, that was a tough one
I bought my '03 YZ450F in 2017 and hope I will learn how to tear it apart and reassemble it afterwards. Thanks for documenting your way to do it :)
Thanks for watching, biggest thing I can stress is to download a proper repair manual. You can find them for free if you join a YZ450F facebook page and look under the files section.
@@whatshappeningintheshop Thanks! I found the manual, but seeing the drawing is something other than tearing it apart in real life 😀So hopefully your videos will be helpful ☺
i had one of these in 2006 ,barnfind , first ride i broke my ankle on the first corner as i neglected to check the front tyre pressure after the bike sitting for many years ,had it for a few years then ended up selling it to a guy who wanted to restore it ,
Was it a good riding bike ? I haven't rode on one. Thanks for watching.
@@whatshappeningintheshop yeah it was actually quite fast for a 175, powerband like a yz250. i put big bore kit in it so it moved out ,
Another good video. Can’t wait to see more along the way of this restoration
Thanks for watching !
Good candidate for a restoration. Looking forward to how it turns out.
Me too, thanks for watching !
Nice!!! Project project ❤💯
Yeah it needs some love.
no way 10 max
It could be a euro model. They are white and red.if its a usa model its a 1985
I'm in Canada , yes its an 84 , they were red and white here. Thanks for watching
Are you sure that’s not a ‘85? I had a ‘84 and Yamaha was still black/yellow. Was a great bike. ‘85’s unfortunately are a pooch
The 84 was one of the worst bikes made..
I'm in Canada , yes its an 84 , they were red and white here. Thanks for watching
@@whatshappeningintheshopthat’s strange they turned red/white here in 1985
@@jasoncompton3735 Canada usually followed color schemes from Europe or Australia in those years.
If you have the knowledge and it seems you do i would invest in making molds with original parts and perfect doing so and label years model. Possibly make a business plan for yourself dude. Cool channel hope to watch it grow man
Thanks Brother !
3200 dollars is crazy i bought a yz125 1988 needs new contingrod berring but thats it got it for 500
I agree. Thanks for watching !
Good video In Northeast Ohio that bike may have fetched 1800 max, but more than likely would have got 1400 to 1500.
Thanks for the response , yeah it went for crazy money I thought. Thanks for watching !
Will love to see how the inside looks ❤
I didn't buy the bike. Thanks for watching.
Same failure on my 2003 YZ450F oil pump pinion gear broke the crank case casting. I picked up a 2005 case to repair my motor. My 450 turns over. Glad to find your build clips. Could not see any steel frame YZ 4 stroke repairs on TH-cam 3 years ago when I picked my 2003 up.
Hi, thanks for watching ! Glad my videos can be of some help.
Great job! I have a 2003 YZ450F here that needs full restoration. Your clips will be very helpful. What’s the graphics kit on yours? Factory stock look hard to find for early models. David Tasmania
Thanks, its a factory FX decal kit I bought from rocky mountain atv/mc . I wasn't crazy about the FX logo but like you say there isn't anybody making a true OEM replicas. When you put gas in the tank they want to bubble even with the slits in the film. Thanks for watching !
What would happen if one were to try and do the same on a "clear" ktm enduro tank?
I think it would have a shine just the same but white tanks tend to turn yellow from the gas so not sure it would ever quite have the same color as brand new.
what size piston is yours honda qr??
Its the stock size , there are also 0.5 mm oversize ones on ebay usually from Austrailia
Hey man I have a question, does it matter what spacer collar goes on what side of the front wheel? I changed the front tube and I was looking at the bike and noticed the wheel sits a little more closer to the right fork
www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/2003/yz450f-yz450fr/front-wheel The spacer with the step goes on the disc side
Hi I had a question, I have an 03 yz450. Do you know by any chance if these bikes have an oil filter screen
Yes there is a screen on the pick up tube in the center case. You can go on partzilla and look up the part number
@@whatshappeningintheshop thank you I found the location of it in one of your videos. I wanted to see where it was located. My bike leaks a bit from the oil hose on the right side underneath the clutch cover and from the drain bolt, I’m gonna check it again when I get home and drain the oil
Sounds like you got a low rpm stutter when accelerating. I'm sure you'll get it dialed in correctly though! Good luck!
The needle was in the standard position for sea level , I'm at 3500 feet so I dropped the needle position one notch so hopefully leaning it out will help, haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thanks for watching.
Basically a brand new bike,i love it!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks again.
This is gold, appreciate u sharing your restoration build with us!
I appreciate you taking the time to watch !
Looking forward to doing a similar build with a new to me 2003 i picked up!
Good luck with the project ! Thanks for watching
Do you know the measurements for the carburetor bolt mounting holes? Thanks
Sorry I do not
No Honda did not originally have those swingarms clear-coated
Thanks for watching !
Dumb ass....Yeah he made it look pretty but now it's dangerous to ride because when you sand on that aluminum it's only so thick the thinner it gets the easier it is to break yeah you made it look pretty but now it's dangerous
Love the journey, appreciate the content 👌 ❤❤❤
I appreciate that .Thanks for watching !
