I love my 264 win mag
I got a sorghum plate i want to use. The manual says to use a solid plate with it which i also have. Can anyone help me how to install the seed plate and the solid plate. I’m stumped. Thks
@@richardwhite3066 The solid plate installs underneath the sorghum plate in the hopper. The two should mesh together.
Maybe im just picky but if mine won't shoot like the top right minus the flyer just the 4 rounds it's getting traded to the local gun store
6.5 prc is close at long range to the 264 win mag and has a bunch of ammo choices. I have a 260 rem and ammo is hard to find.
And boys dont forget the 25-06
Great sheep gun
I have a curt A16 and the jaws don’t want to open what should I do
No pressure signs? I would hope not you're about 4 grains under the max charge according the Hornady manual.
Need to find that die ? Part# & or others that will do the same ? Thx, MCM
I'm using RL-16 for it's "temperature insensitive" characteristics and with Sierra 130 TGK, Peterson brass - still get a 96% load ratio and 2755 fps w/MOA accuracy. RL-17 got the 123gr over 3000 fps with W-W 243 brass (highest case capacity). I usually size REM 7-08 brass (in 7-08 dies) then neck turn prior to sizing down to 260 brass. Using the Bison Armory case capacity tool helps sort the brass minimizing Sd.
Your going to love the 264 win mag If you can find it a 700 rem , I've had both the 700 rem shot better and less recoil, but each to there own, out of 20+ years of guiding. Never had to have a follow up shot ever with it. 20+ elk no counting mule deer ,shooting a 130 gr hornidy
Are you able to shoot lighter bullets as well, say 40-50gr without issue? Im guessing 1:8 barreled Tikka not usual 1:14.
I've shot 52gn with no problem, but it does not like 45gn at all.
That's funny, YOU telling Winchester to GET WITH IT!
I bought my 1st 264 Win Mag in 1975. I went to work for Bill Wiseman (Wiseman/McMillan) Rifle barrels in 1982. I made the416R Stainless Barrel that is a 1:9 my choice. I have access to test tunnels and universal receivers. Why a 1:9. My Winchester Model 70 XTR is a long action. I chambered the rifle for the 120 Nosler Solid Base seated out to end of magazine + 0.025” to lands. Result was a rifle that will shoot 0.192 MOA avg 5 shot groups. The muzzle velocity is 3,376 FPS. The results it turns in on Pronghorn, Mule Deer, Whitetail, Sheep, and coyotes is spectacular! I have shot Pronghorn and deer and get baseball size holes thru both rib cages. Killed 2 bull elk with a 140 Partition. At ethical hunting distance there is no need for the change. The cartridge was never designed to be a target cartridge due to the heat and cleaning and cooling cycles. History of why the 1:9 twist. The gun was marketed in the 1950,s as a Western Plains game round. Scopes were fixed powered. This took some of the holdover guess work out. There were few choices in 6.5 mm bullets in the USA. There was also few powders slow enough to push the bullets. Therefore, Winchester came out with a 2 dimensional bullet. The 140 needed less twist to spin it. The rifle would also stabilize a 100 grain bullet at 3,600 fps. Back in the day shooters weren’t playing sniper and trying to either kill animals or steel at 1,000 yards Outside of a couple of military matches, example: Camp Perry. I big Weatherby cartridge fan as well for hunting. They always get the job done and rarely have to shoot anything twice. Why do they not change the 264? The cartridge has a short neck in order to shoot the long heavy bullets you would have to shoot them single shot due to magazine length restriction on a standard action or you give up case capacity. It would still probably outperform the 6.5 Needmore. If you are dying to have a super high velocity 6.5, then give the 6.5X300 Weatherby Magnum a try. Cartridge was winning 1,000 matches in the 60’s & 70’s as a wildcat. Big dose of US869 and you are there.
You sir, ARE A SMART MAN! I loved reading your comment. So true!
I've been shooting a 264 (couple of them) since the '80's. Great round, that simply got some bad press. Look at some of the newer, even more "overbore" cartridges that are a success. The creedmore mimics the 1891 designed swedish round in regard to performance. Rick Jamison once wrote an article about 5 factory rounds capable of passing 4000 fps. Cost me my first rebarrel, but put many long shot groundhogs to rest. I've since backed off the recently retired 85 gr sierra @ 3660.
🤣🤣🤣 I would not buy or not buy any of these powders based on this trial. This particular rifle will shoot factory ammo better than than the groups in this video.
BS to pay that kind of money for a trigger and have to modify it to safely work because some dumbass engineer to lazy to set it up to drop in correct kinda like there ruger trigger i just do my old style trigger jobs that cost $15 and have same pull weight but not be out $200 and still have to operate on it
My question is have you tried the VLD in the 264 mag the 140gr they said the 1-10 twist in 270 wouldn’t stabilize a 160 or higher bullet but ppl have shot 170 BT in 270 win just fine
If you like the 22-250 but like old before their time cartridges. That have been phased out for no reason. You should look into the 220 swift.
It wasn’t Winchester’s marketing that was the death of the cartridge. It was gun writers writing that it was a barrel burner and nobody wanted it. Then Remington released the 7mm rem mag 4 years later in 1962. The 7mm had the ability to shoot 175 green bullet, and had more bullet options than the 264.
Not sure where you are in the states but i have a parts planter i picked up at a local auction for 100 bucks. Id like to get a set of plates 3d printed for the okra Milo and millet plate
I use 34.9 grains of varget in my Tikka with 62 grain Barnes TSX
Have you considered a 6.5 PRC?
You wouldn’t happen to have the contact info for the man you got the plates from would you?
His name was Charles and he had an ebay store. But he was up in his 80's and it was several years ago, so im not sure if hes still kicking around.
Looks like his ebay store is still there. It's cjoker123
Too much rant and not enough facts or experience. More research needed.
100 to 130 is what makes the 264 shine against the competition
Enjoyed your video very informative
I’d love a lightweight win 70 in 6.5x55
If you want a 6.5 faster than a 264mag get a 6.5-300 weatherby
6.5x284 is a good one too
I’ve been hunting with a 264mag since the 90’s. Shot the barrel out and had it rebarreled back to the 264mag with a krieger 26” 1:8.5. It likes 140 and 156gr Berger EH’s. Shoots small groups way out there kills deer quick.
Do u know the bdc bullet drop information for the 30-06 for each dead hold over ?
I’m a huge 260 Rem fan . I own a Savage model 10 predator . I just bought a PGW DTI action and barrel lacing into a MDT LSS XL chassis this set up is going to be also in 260 rem . I am a reloader as well . Enjoyed your video .👍
I’ll choose my m70 264 win mag over anything in my safe. I’ve taken 6 deer with my 6.5 creedmoor its pretty solid. But will never ever come close to my 264. I buy a new gun every year. I bought a bergara b14 6.5 2 years ago, a benelli nova last year and I might buy another m70 in 375h&h.
Could you 3d print plates for it
You can still buy a few plates brand new but they are like $120 a set
@@danielzielinski6410 I'm going to try printing one I only have one broken one
i have a pre 64 matter affact 1960 thats a featherlight.. pure gold
Thank you for this! I really needed it!
Now.that you've used it a few years how do you like it
I still love the thing. It is an excellent planter, I just have to take extra care of it since parts are so scarce.
@HyckoryStyckWorks they still make quite a few parts but the hardest parts are those fertilizer shoes. Pretty much anything plastic or rubber you can still buy new including a few sets of plates. I got lucky and found a NOS set of those fertilizer shoes amd discs for $150 a side which i thought was a great deal. Im about 70% done sandblasting and painting my 309 and going to do some videos of the assembly and rebuild those fertilizer dics bearings which hopefully wont take as long as taking apart lol.
@Hyckory Styck Works have you ever rebuilt the fertilizer shaft with rubber rotary valves? I just did mine and posted a short video on TH-cam. You can still buy the rotary valves
I think you should work with the 125gr loads more . Hornady 130gr shows Varget starting load at 44.4 gr going 2700 fps, 49gr going 2900 fps, 51.2 going 3000 and thats with a 130 gr sp bullet. These bullets would be great for Varmint. It looks like you are grouping ok just dial in a little more before blaming the bullet or powder.
I had to come with a quick coyote load for a thermal scoped Tikka 22-250 1/8 twist using the 60 gr vmax. I used Noslers most accurate powder/load of 36.5 gr of H380. Safe and apparently very accurate since I routinely bust them at 300+ yards. I have some doubts about your COL measurements. At 2.405 it's jammed up against the lands of the Tikka. My COL is 2.380.
Seems so much easier to just install a M-Carbo trigger spring kit. All you have to do is replace the spring. No other modifications necessary
That would be the easy route, yes. But there is no spring kit that can change the dynamics of the stock mod 70 trigger enough to even come close to the crispness and cleanness of a Timney.
@@HyckoryStyckWorks Does the trigger do away with the bolt lock, I know in some cases they do, which is why I never use them
Thank you for this most informative video on the Ford 309. I have two of them. One I have restored and repainted. The other is for parts. I use mine for food plot planting. Thanks again.
I have one complete but the hoppers are destroyed.. $200 takes it now but someday I may get to restoring it and using it so someone come grab it. Plates are there I think maybe 8 of them but they are plastic.
Where are you located
@@danielzielinski6410 you will be disappointed. I saved the parts that make it a corn planter but the hitch and frame have been repurposed. Already
@@danielzielinski6410 I'm in upstate NY.
@@danielzielinski6410 I'm outside of Utica, 20 min north.
@@danielzielinski6410 $50 and you can have all the shafts, gears, chains planters and hopper parts oh and the wheels. Everything did move and spin but I never used it
One up for bid in Glasgow Mt.
I got a new one a few yrs ago couldn't find ammo an had one box left ,didn't want to use them if I couldn't get ammo , got 4 boxs at Walmart today for 25 bucks a box they had one box left when I left im gonna get that last box even if my wife says NO .💰🙏🙏🙏🙏
Model 70, me too! I like my 3 position safety. I’m spoiled by the best. In the mean time, I’m rocking my Bergara B14 HMR 24” long 9” twist barrel with the 75 grain HPBT pills by Hornady… My load testing is going smoothly so far some mild loads of IMR 4320 has the bullets exiting at 2950 fps give or take. Peace Be The Journey!!
Hen get a 6.5 sniper rifle
Cool info
Got my Remington model 700 264 in the early sixties, still have it and it still has the original barrel. The rap about barrel burning has gone by the wayside with the newer slower powders. Always wondered how that label stuck for so long, while nobody ever makes that argument about so many over bored newer calibers. Oh well, my two favorite calibers are that great 264, and a superb pre 64 Winchester 300H&H.
I’ve been looking for a 2 row sweet corn planter and have seen a couple of these for sale locally. Did a search and found your video helpful. 22 years.....that is a heck of a run. Good video, should be helpful to many.
Thank you. Good luck with yours if you buy one.
@@HyckoryStyckWorks thank you.
