Smash is a platform fighter where your main objective is to steal stocks off your opponent by knocking them off of a platform (basically a ring out). Marvel vs Capcom 3 and UMVC3 are traditional fighting games where you have to beat the sh** out of your opponent until they have no health left. On top of the fact that MVC is a tag team 3v3 fighter and has assist mechanics, UMVC3 has almost nothing in common with smash.
