Are all of your nodes running behind a single public ip address?
No, as i Said in the video, i have the nodes running in 3 different subsnets
And with can run multiple nodes with the same license?
One node pr. License
It is possible to run a node without the full license?
You do need a license to start.
Literally just building my first 2TB node with an old 6th gen I5 PC and a simple network switch for ethernet, very exciting!! Your videos have been super helpful, many thanks!!
Thanks man and i wish you Good luck! And Thanks for watching
Good setup. But, how much time needed to fill up 164TB with storj? I think, possibly never. There is was a huge data deletion at the last month. My node with 12TB space running 22 month and it's filled only at the 8TB for now. I have good internet connection and online up to 99%, good disk speed, but ingress is to low and periodical deletions is too big. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Or node location is no good.
I watched cause of that jazzy looking motherboard, as much as i like that case the money spent on that couldve been spent on a better motherboard, plenty of none server class pc cases that can house loads of Drives, Corsair Obsidian 900D/1000D, Phantek also make server sized cases, good job you dont have Graphic Card usage in mind for Video Editing or Gaming considering you only have 1x 550watt Power Supply, downside to that case only taking 1 PSU, FYI those PCI_E x1 slot SATA adapters come in 4 Port Versions as well, went down the windows route rather than Linux with Proxmox or Truenas kinda wonder what the use case is? and what about RAID? PS you can get x4 NVME PCI-E x16 Slot Cards pretty cheaply if you wanna use that other x16 slot as long as you can bificate the slot into x4x4x4x4 for each nvme drive on the card.
but i need more information from you about this and about earning from it
Hey man Thanks for watching, Maybe have a look at one of My other videos?
@@hgsoftware5129 your most welcome but i want to talk to you in instagram do you have insta or something where i will talk with you
Sorry but i dont.
If you ever redo or refresh this one you can look at Mobo's that can use ECC memory, AsRock boards usually do.
Yes! Not a bad addition in the future
I want to update the card and set the latest firmware. Do you know how to do it?
I belive My guide Also allows for that?
Did the case designers really not think of how to get the drive cables past the fans?
They made very Small holes, but they Where not Big enough for me :)
im wondering if theres someone who think this is not enough 😅
100% there Will be ;)
How is your node after a year?
This one is not running anymore, but soon i Will post an Update on My original nodes
Cable management: "It's not good, but it's a bit!" - heh, at least you made an attempt, and there's visible motherboard down below! Better than most of my builds :D
Omg!! No way you just commented on a video of mine!! Im such a fan Dude! Especially the 1PB pi build! You just made my day! No, my week!! Thanks Jeff🥹😀🫣😅
reliability = ECC ram if pushing that much data through your system with a supported cpu/mobo...
Yes Maybe needed in the future :) for now No.
Interesting Build, looking forward to some Performance test results! Thanks!
Thanks alot! If you enjoy the content then consider a sub😃
I can confirm that the SOC of these LSI RAID controllers tend to get really hot. Why they dont put a small fan on them is beyond me. Even with the good airflow in a server case, I still prefer a small fan on them.
Agreed. I added a Small fan the hopefully helps
2:57 - These "HP" drives look like HGST Helioseal Ultrastar drives (owned by Western Digital, whose name is also on the lower part of the label). This is also confirmed by the model number of e.g. the left drive (WUH721818...), which is completelty fitting the HGST Helioseal drives, except for the first letter, which is W instead of H. U = Ultrastar, H = Helioseal, 72 = 7200 rpm. 18 = raw capacity, 18 = available capacity... I personally am a big fan of these drives. They are very reliable and by many datacenters used.
Hey Thanks alot! That makes sense. Yea the drives was bought from a very high end local Company that uses the disks for windmills, they hard these they did not need so i Got to buy then cheap
Ton of garbage. Does hard drives failed so often that I wouldn't trust them with empty folders
Okay. :)
How much cost this raspberry pi nas to build?
Hey man, this is not a pi, and i dont know How mouch it whould cost with a pi
@@hgsoftware5129 nevermind, I already found prices to this raspberry pi mini rig
How is the name of the case?
Its in the description
@@hgsoftware5129 My bad, went right to where you list the hardware
is storj still profitable compared to chia? how much is 1tb expected to make monthly? i have about 300tb on chia atm and could consider switching
Hey man, you might take just one disk and convert to STORJ, but do not convert all at once. Because it takes a very long time to fill up your disks with STORJ, you only get data when there is data on the network. You make about 1,5 usd pr. Tb that is actually filled up
164tb? Rookie numbers
i got another 220 TB at my home - and thats more than i need :)
I did a double take when I saw you start Windows.
Haha i Can understand🫣 i have My reasons tho ;)
@@hgsoftware5129 I'm sure you do.
What reasons do you have? As a noob, I just avoid Linux cos unfamiliairity@@hgsoftware5129
Could you please write power usage in idle and power usage in tests! You will use Unraid or other solution. Thanks
Hey man, idle is about 100 watts with all drives plugged in. Will not use any raid, just jbod
@@hgsoftware5129 unRaid is an operating system for NAS systems. Definitely worth having a look into for your system
surprised how quite it is
Yea Its not Too bad, but Keep in mind the disks Where not doing much work ;)
14:11 I'm curious. Are you running all of them without redundancy/backups? If yes, what's your thought process on that.
Yes i am! 👍🏻 none of the data is essential enough to need backups - so that is the decision i went with
@@hgsoftware5129 Damn I wish I had your confidence. TBH that's the main headache i had to think of. Seeing 1/3 of your storage blocked out by redundancy SUCKS.
Haha i understand the feeling ;)
@@jackipieggWrong view. You need to invest 3GB to get 2GB of reliable storage. You don't buy drives to store data but to be able to access data when you need it.
@@hw2508 With your logic 120TB raw will only get you 80TB. What a waste 40TB.
Hi, I started off like you, using a single SAS to 4 SATA cables. But ever since I found this adaptor on the chinese taobao site, it was a superb option. Basically, this link im sharing with u is a 12 hdd cage that has a backplane (SAS/SATA), and the backplane, u can simply use a single miniSAS cable to SFF 8047 to ur LSI adaptor. And boom! 1 cable to 12 HDD which reduces the cable mess. There is also a 6 pin port, the seller will provide u with a 4x molex to a single 6 pin port to power all 12 hard drives. I have been using it for months and works like a charm. Will share the link with u if i can
Hahaha im not affiliated with the seller. Just sharing with you. I have about 20+ hard drives, running a 250TiB worth of Chia plots. Really lucky to have found this solution and dm sharing with you
Hi man, Thanks for the reccomendation - but i currently do not need any more drive space :) you are welcome to dm me tho
@@hgsoftware5129 Hahhaha no problem!
using some of the second nvme as a cache would really help
Yea agreed, i might end up doing that
SATA is a subset of SAS and SAS has a SATA compatibility mode built into it as well. You could set your whole structure for SAS and use SATA where necessary and it would work just fine.
Thanks alot! Then i did not need an additional adapter ;)
SATA drives are compatible with SAS connections, you can't use SAS on SATA plugs, but you can use SATA on SAS.
Thanks man, might not need the spare connector then ;)
SATA drives work with SAS adapters... just get the cable to fit. Note the reverse (SAS drives on SATA ports) don't work
Thanks alot, then i dont need the spare adapter
Where did you get the white label Seagates from?
Hey man, these i Got from a trusted seller i have done bussiness with before :)
@@hgsoftware5129 I'll take one of the 12TB SATA off your hands if you don't find the 5th SATA port for it...
Well that Will cost money ;)
And btw. - i have more than one available
well, grab a 650w sfx psu with a mounting bracket for atx and then you can install a fan on the sas controller.
Did you see till the end of the video? I routed the cables above and was able to have a Fan and use the powersupply that was free ;)
@@hgsoftware5129 ooops, my bad then. well… all is well that ends well i guess then, haha. and if its free, all the better. cheers!
Nice build, think i would have maybe gone with a slightly bigger psu, 500w for all those drives is going to strain the 12v rail a bit. Btw sas cables can be used on sata drives.
Hey man! Thanks so much for the tips! 👍🏻 i Think 550Watt is OK for this amount of drives. Lets hope. Also Wow! Did not know about the sas to sata thing. Maybe i did not need that adapter after all!💪🏼
So it's not a 164TB home server...
Why? A workshop or home, server Can be used both places. I have this kind of server at home Also.
@@hgsoftware5129 I mean I agree with this, but not all 164TBs are installed at once in the one home server? No?
Installed- yes they are ;) running at all times - not yet - but that Will Come.
Finally❤❤❤
Thanks for watching 😃
Home server... and it stays in the workshop. So... no home server and title should be corrected?
Why? A workshop or home, server Can be used both places. I have this kind of server at home Also.
@@hgsoftware5129 Because this use, workshop or home, do not fit exaclty (IMO) to a "home server". I mean... Technically there are more home than workshops, therefore "home server" might be a bit more catchy than workshop server.
I disagree, a home server is just a server you Can have at home. My workshop is not a bussiness, Its a hobby room. So something i do When i relax. Not My job. Its next to My home, i Got home stuff there, like lego, old clothes and much more. I choose to Call it a home server, because you Can use this at home if you want, and build it, at home ;) You are free to disagree
Awesome build - i have also recently bought a Inter-Tech case, and i think the build quality sucks. The metal do bend way to easy - and the fan setup also not make sense. It looks like it supports 4-pin fans, but no manual or logical way to get it working.
It works Great with 4 pin. I choose to not use molex - Its standard 4pin Thanks :) For the Price i Think that is decent
Great video! Question: If you can host a node with raspberry pi, why would you build such a big server? Whats the difference? Im new to this Thanks!
Hi man Thanks alot! The reason i make such a Big server is because i use it for other stuff Too, and Also i Can expand in the future ;)
Btw. New server video Coming soon, here i Will be making a server with over 12HDD’s and over 100TB of available space
23:50. I get Status: 500. Message: InfluxDB returned error: error parsing query: found FROM, expected identifier, string, number, bool at line 1, char 9

You are not dumb, you are learning :)
