Today I will fly Spirit Airlines from Chicago O'Hare Airport to Las Vegas onboard their A321S in their "Comfy" section. It was not a good choice for an overnight flight. Filmed from 10/16/2024 to 10/17/2024. Join my Patreon: www.patreon.com/c/KalamazooAviation

Strongly doubt it. The infra bill was popular, declared a lot of open-ended funding not including the however many billions dedicated to Amtrak, and reflects what Trump was doing in his first term re: fixing our transportation equipment.
But this time he is appointing all his billionaire friends this time, including Elon Musk who is very anti train. In project 2025 there are mentions of eliminating public transit entirely and replacing it all with Ubers.
its sad that the president has the power to kill amtrak
Yh it’s sad that trump won but hopefully Amtrak survives
@@midwesternrailfan3257 it's really disappointing. I believe Amtrak will survive but it will definitely be a stripped down service.
He doesn't though lol
@@The_Mason_Transportation He does. He can stop funding for rail projects, including the 110mph upgrades near Dearborn. It’s also a big thing to consider that he doesn’t really support rail transportation, so he will refuse to fund railroad projects in the future.
@@kzooaviation Agreed. I definitely think Wolverine services will sadly be cut down to one or two a day.
Nice to see the Wolverine service using top and tail power.
P42 LEADER nice catch
Your script is way to large on the screen; calm it down a bit.
All venture cars nice catch

@kzooaviation yes but ive seen a horizon car here and there
Nice catch! I wonder when another Midwest Charger will get the new nose cone.
Thanks, I'm not sure
Would that Meta train drop you off right at O'Hare?
Kind of, it takes you about a 5 minute walk away from the rental car facilities and the city busses. You can take the ATS from there to the terminals. The walk is mostly outside though.
@kzooaviation I live in Milwaukee and mostly take the bus from the train station to O'Hare. Thanks for the information.

The “music” is really irritating.
@@warrengibson7898most people like it, feel free to mute the audio if you want.
MBTA goes from Boston MA to Providence RI which is great.
@@Necromancer1776 that line is diesel which I think disqualifies it from being an interurban as they were all electric. I think if they electrified it then maybe it would qualify.
@@kzooaviation for sure. Good news is that it is in the works. The first to electrify would the providence line because Amtrak has the overhead wires.
Good on the conductor for telling passengers to keep their shoes of the seats!
You could have ended the video by walking up to the bean sculpture in Millennium Park instead of following some custodian with a garbage can.
Saw him in royal oak
@@Benthetrainman cool
I remember the North Shore Line and the Chicago Aurora and Elgin ran their trains at much higher speeds than 79 miles an hour especially between stations.
The Amtrak station in MC is near the lake. Alas, not really near the South Shore. There is talk about moving it too, like South Bend.
@@johnplampin7274 that station is unfortunately no longer used
There’s talk of shifting Amtrak to the South Shore from South Bend west to concentrate passenger trains on one route.
@@maestromecanico597 I think Amtrak should serve downtown, the platform at the South Bend airport is way to small for the Floridan or Lake Shore. The current station location for Amtrak is too far from downtown imo.
@kzooaviation There's been talk of returning service to Union Station in South Bend. Very ambitious ideas going 'round.
The only heard serious talk is of Michigan Amtrak services being routed on the SSL west of Michigan City. Since so much has been invested in the 110mph dedicated passenger line from Porter to Kalamazoo it doesn't make sense to take a slower route through South Bend. The only issue area is NW Indiana at Porter where they move onto congested NS tracks, which could be bypassed using the SSL.
@ The intention is Michigan service trains would branch off at Michigan City and continue to Kalamazoo and beyond. The two east coast trains would continue on the South Shore to South Bend and then get on the NS Chicago line.
That’s my first time seeing or hearing conductor asking for ID to inspection on Amtrak!
The system will randomly ask for it so they always say have it available but I've never had to show anything except my ticket.
The two tracks that bypass the station are not actually express tracks. They are a different branch of the LIRR - the Montauk Branch with service east to Babylon (and beyond) and west to NYC.
Oh, thanks
On a scale of late to late, how late was it? I commute using the SSL and it's late 99% of the time.
@@MidwestCWS we were only a few minutes late I believe. I know the train arrived into Michigan City on time from South Bend
@@MidwestCWS I wish the South Shore Line would run at the high speeds like the North Shore Line and the Chicago Aurora and Elgin. Speeds which it would help the South Shore Line be much more on time in its schedules.
@@albertcarello619 higher speeds would require significant line upgrades. Back in the days of the North shore, railroad companies were much more free to determine maximum speed limits on their lines, however the FRA currently has federal maximum speed limits based on track condition and signalling capability. Without implementing PTC and significant infrastructure work, the South Shore cannot legally operate faster than 79 mph. Honestly, it's already a great service all things considered, and I was quite impressed the number of times I've used it as a sailor getting to and from the ports in Northern Indiana. I would personally rather see frequency and service improvements over speed improvements. Increasing off-peak and "wrong direction" frequency would be a much easier step to take immediately and could improve the convenience factor.
@@MidwestCWS The commute times should get better with the tracks finally off the streets in Michigan City IN and being now double tracked there allowing for 14 additional trains being scheduled.
That rolling stock has such an NJT Arrow III vibe! LOL!
I love how the EMUs use a crossing bell on the front
I believe it’s a gong bell
What a pointy nose!
I wish amtrak would use the venture café class cars instead of the amfleet café cars
The venture cafes should be on most routes by the end of the year depending on how fast Siemens and get them out.
The entire venture car setups are crap 🤣

Reposition flight back to KATL for another Long-Haul Flight, so Delta wants to make money instead of lose money by reposition so they sell tickets from Detroit to ATL
This is what we call in airline operations as a positioning service. At Lufthansa we did this a lot in the past between Frankfurt and Munich. Cheers.
@@strafrag1 yeah, I always try to ride one of these moves. I still need to ride the 767 though
6:36 The Amfleet café car appears smooth and controlled. Having the vestibule door open adds a lot of loud track noise. Stainless steel Amfleet cars are derived from the 1960s Metroliner designed for 165 mph operation on an upgraded NEC using adjustable air bags for springs in their suspension. The MTU Metroliner cars proved to be troublesome with their propulsion, but their passenger train car dynamics were very good. The stainless steel technology was licensed by the Japanese Shijncasen bullet train manufacture with technology exchange for the Metroliner. It was later discovered that Metroliner type service could be provided with Amfleet cars being pulled at 125 mph with much more reliable AEM7 electric locomotives on the NEC than the original MTU Metroliner cars. I rode on the original MTU Metroliner when I was 13 and it was so smooth at 120 mph looking out the front without looking at the speedometer I wouldn't of believed it was that fast. I thought it might be kph, but the engineer announced very clearly 120, 90, 60, 30 miles per hour when pointing at the speedometer with listings of 15, 12, 9, 6, 3, 0 with tick marks filling in between. It appeared less than half 120 mph.

Is that Howard st. crossing?
@@marquesjohnson1069 yep
@@kzooaviation I don't know how they are going to fix that situation.
@@marquesjohnson1069 it's currently in limbo as Amtrak claims that it's the city's responsibility since it's their road but the city claims Amtrak should pay for it since it's their tracks
@kzooaviation Amtrak would have to change the super elevated track to a milder angle, or the city would have to relocate the crossing.
@@marquesjohnson1069 they could also just add some asphalt to make a less intense slope
Your videos are too short and the descriptions at the bottom of the screen appear and disappear too fast. A narrative is much better than listening to music. The pictures are great and crisp😊
@@awJ1776 I keep them short because a lot of people don't have 20 minutes to sit down and watch a video but they might have 10 minutes to.
I'm a little disappointed, you didn't show the counter area on the new cafe cars, which as a former Amtrak LSA I'm curious to see. It kind of blows my mind that Amtrak removed the counter doors on the Amcafes, that means that pretty much anyone can go behind your counter. How is that secure? That's going to make it really hard to properly represent one "as delivered" in preservation someday if all the counter doors have been scrapped. Of course you'd have to recreate the psychedelic '70s wall and seat coverings, as well as recreating the original security shields that were supposed to allow the attendant to close up the cafe while leaving the display set up. They forgot skinny thieves who could climb over them at the top. Also, originally there were only coach seats on either side of the counter. I believe an Amcafe could seat 52. Eventually they replaced the shields with a security bar system that worked much better. Also the prices are mind blowing. When I started in 1985, they didn't sell a "combo", but a sandwich, like the turkey and cheese, chips and a drink was $3.60. I will go to my grave remembering that price combo, and I left 25 years ago. Oh, and a shot of liquor was $2.25 when I left, and Amtrak only paid about 90 cents per shot bottle. I remember when coffee hit a dollar a cup in the mid-'90s, but to soften the blow they sold a slightly larger cup and offered free refills.
@@paulw.woodring7304 I didn't want to film the counter because the worker was there and I wanted to avoid filming her.
@@kzooaviation I understand. You might have asked her if she could stand aside when she wasn't busy so you could show just the work area. I wouldn't have minded that when I was there.
