It looks squid use ink to chase enemies away while stingray throw sand at enemies to do the same and the sand is more painful and blind the eyes

I was out near Democrat Point (Fire Island) on Sunday and hooked up a huge ray. Took my line out so far I thought it would spool me. Fought it hard. Got it within about 20 yards before it broke off. Wonder if it was one of these.
