Beginner's Golf Guide: How To Perfect Your Tempo!
Episode 8 of an ongoing series in which I'll show you how to go from never picking up a golf club or hitting a ball, to impressing your friends down the range with your newfound skill set!
Today I'm talking Tempo! It's a very important part of the golf swing; as if you rush everything you'll find yourself out of position very quickly. What we want to aim for, is a repeatable action that you can rely on to make sure you hit the ball every time. This will take some getting used to but we are trying to get a smooth motion from the top of your swing to hit the ball.
Let me know how you get on with this drill and if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments and i will get back to you!

    Looks too easy. How do you compress the ball (with some speed), if the club falls with gravity half way down down (so close to the point of impact)..

    • @StuartFoleyGolf
      @StuartFoleyGolf หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you use Instagram feel free to drop me a DM and il send a detailed video on how this works. The shortish answer is, better technique and slower speeds will actually generate more speed as your body won't stall through the shot. Many people think arms moving quickly is speed.... They are very wrong, if your body has to stop or compensate in order for you to make contact with the golf ball then you lose alot of speed. So this feeling / drill keeps the club head wide and will keep you on a better plane then with the body rotating your consistency will improve as this is a very repeatable action.

    Arms down using gravity is a good mindset - but be very mindful of “ turning “ - far too many amateur golfers are obsessed with the word “ turn “ and do turn - hips and shoulders - but way too early - throwing the club - outwards - ( anything in a rotational form will try to move out ) the hips will open up slightly at impact but the torso and shoulders should be more level ( particularly with the driver in hand ) but I like the use of gravity -

    So Stuart you don't make the trail arm longer in the transition/downswing for shallowing purposes?

    • @StuartFoleyGolf
      @StuartFoleyGolf 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Jake, great question, I have got a beginners video coming out on the downswing but in this beginner series I'm not going into too much detail as I just want people to start with simple thoughts. To answer your question, we shouldn't focus on trying to make anything work in a certain way independently, if you rotate correctly in the backswing without using arms you will have width / depth in the arm structure, from that position the club will naturally shallow as we continue our downswing. I will have some advanced guides coming on here but if you shoot me a message on Instagram I'm happy to send you a video back of anything you want clarifying. The username is the same as on here. Hope this helps

      So every coach will teach a different way and depending on swing tendencies will adapt that to the student. In this model we want to focus on shoulders and chest taking the club back which will encourage width and proper positioning. Rotating the chest on the downswing as a main focus will stop you from pulling the hands down and having the arms overtaking the body. If you would like a video on this, send me a video of your swing to sfgolfacademy@gmail.com and I will send a bespoke video back to demonstrate.

    • @StuartFoleyGolf
      @StuartFoleyGolf 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason we want to incorporate the wrist hinge is so the club is preset, this adds speed to your swing so long as your not throwing your angles in the release. The drill shouldn't have any effect on your swing positioning as it's more for helping with rotation. More for feels in the body as apposed to a ln actual swing in motion

    Why does your swing look so akward?

    • @StuartFoleyGolf
      @StuartFoleyGolf 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting take, not too sure how a swing can look awkward especially when working on a specific drill but Il try and clarify. When working on a drill you are trying to hit specific positions to integrate feels, every person's swing will look different and all will share different tendencies so each person will have a different position due to their body shape ect. But it's key to remember when drilling a move, it's only going to be in that position for a fraction of a second in your proper swing so it's vital we learn how it feels through repetition. Keep practicing and we will all lower our scores
