    Outstanding interview and tour, thanks! I was fortunate enough to record with my old band at Michael's previous location on San Pablo Ave 10 years ago. It was an awesome time, he was so good at it and so inspiring with how he directed the sessions, the stories he would tell, and just how simple he made it for us. A few familiar looking items in his new studio I recognize from back then. He really deserves this kind of space. As a budding recording engineer myself, recording at the San Pablo place helped me to realize that even in a pretty humble little location you can still get great results if you have the know-how. He had also given me a few recommendations of things to try on my own sessions. One of his suggestions was to use D112s on the toms, and sure enough that's what he's got on his studio kit here.

    i think it may have all finally clicked for me, with each triad shape no matter the chord you are playing you are still in the g major scale shape correct? although you could also change to the d major scale over the d major chord as well right? thats the bit that always confuses me

    • @ChristopherBeanMusic
      @ChristopherBeanMusic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad to hear you found this video useful! Yes I stay in the g major scale in this video. You could absolutely switch to the D Major scale over the D major chord. The reason this works is because that scale contains all the notes found in the D Major chord. It always comes back to “are the notes in this scale in the chord”, if they are - you can insert that scale. Using 1 scale as my pallet of notes and thinking of triad shapes (like I do in this video) is just one way of approaching solos and improvisation. Switching scales is another equally valid way of playing, it takes a bit more legwork to not get lost on the fretboard in the moment BUT its a fun way to add color to your playing.

    Great content but I found the drumming in the background is so annoying and unnecessary.

      Hello Pete! Thanks for checking out the video and your feedback! Glad you liked the content - I’ll continue to experiment with some other background elements in the future.

    Pretty sure that the Sound City console which Dave Grohl owns now is actually a 8028. Nice video, great classic studio with lovely vibe <3

      Thanks for the kind words and checking out the video! You are correct! Looks like Dave’s is in the same series as Hyde Streets, just 1 tier apart.

    Your original music was worth the wait. Surprised at the light gauge string set, but sounded great in the mix. This was an honest demo. I appreciated the learning curve Christopher.

      Hey there Ryan, I went light gauge strings due to a hand injury a couple of years back. Thanks for checking out my video and the kind words!

      Thanks for reply. I certainly know about injuries. I started out w light guage and loved the flexibility.

    Minor Pentatonic Pos. 4, A shaped C chord? Uhuh, that's what I call simplifying things 😅 And surely a great way to communicate with other musicians. Sheesh. This is taking a restrictive bunch of boxes and forcing them to fit inside an even more limited "system" based on endless memorisation and falls apart as soon as you tune a single string to anything outside Standard. Play smarter, not harder... learn Intervals.

      Hey Tito! Thanks for the feedback! The CAGED system is just ONE way to break up the fretboard into different sections, and learn how scales, chords, arpeggios, and triads fit in each section. This video is just one of several in a series I did on the CAGED system that actually covers all of this - including intervals. So I agree, definitely learn intervals, they are INVALUABLE! As far as it falling apart when changing tuning, you are absolutely correct! But so would interval location - tuning to drop D for example changes chord shapes, scale patterns, etc. yes the notes needed to play those things (and their interval relationships) stay the same, but the physical location of these changes. Learning involves memorization and application. Setting restrictions while learning something allows you to compare it to what you already know and further connect the dots in your understanding of a subject, then you can apply additional ideas and concepts outside of what I’m presenting here. All the best!
