THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY - Wishes And Regrets
G. I rock the Keis J505 Extreme heated jacket & Keis G701 heated gloves out of the UK. They have been making this super high quality heated gear for decades. Paid a little over $400 for both. They also make pant liners, socks, and body warmers. I ride a 23’ Tiger 1200 Rally Pro. Have nearly 11,000 miles on it and I’d say 4000 has been in colder temps where I used the heated gear. It has always performed flawlessly. Last long trip was Buffalo, to Northern Vermont. I won’t ride in colder temps without it. And the gear is substantially warm before turning them on. Also, the jacket is a very destination piece as well. Keis is the brand. You won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for the detailed review. That's great to hear your gear has held up so well!
Bike looks great, man! I stop riding when they salt the roads, and start back up again when it's clear :D Other than that, it's all about prep, you're 100% right - cold isn't bad if you've got the right gear :D Great to see you out riding and filming again!
I appreciate the kind words. I love riding year-round when I can.
I appreciate the kind words. I love riding year-round.
@@GBeWinginIt Me too! When the roads are clear, LOL.
Hey Gil! Awesome to see you riding still. I’m outside of Charlotte and commute 47 miles to work on my 1250GS Exclusive every day:-) Exceptions being rain and or snow ❄️ thankfully it doesn’t get as cold here as up yonder way 😂 I’ve ridden as low as 15°, honestly couldn’t tell the difference between that and 30 lol. Stay safe my brother!
Stay up and Enjoy those commutes.
To me, part of the ride is shifting. My ultimate sports car would also be a manual. That’s just my opinion. The DCT is impressive and no doubt quicker in a race. Automatics just aren’t as fun for me. I ride motorcycles because they are fun.
The old Dyna was opened up when he grabbed top gear, that was when the wing effortlessly and elegantly just pulled away... Nice kill I have had the pleasure of toying with a few HD's on my M109R, most of them top out about 110-115 mph.
Good to see you back my friend! It gets cold here in Oklahoma too! I try to stay ready myself, but sometimes its a hot minute till I can ride🤷be safe brother🙏
It's definitely a challenge to stay motivated when it's cold out, but well worth it.
Yes, we in the GSA family stay ready to ride year round. Temps closer to 40 degrees for me when I went out to ride today. Ride safe.
I agree - ride safe!
33° Ouch! Yeah, bruh, that's cold. Glad we have heated gear. Nope...not riding in the white stuff❄. Fortunately, we can ride all year round in Northern Cali, albeit we are in Florida at the moment. Ride safe G.
I’ll be in Jacksonville for a few days to celebrate my birthday next week with my 8 grandchildren and three of my daughters. Can’t wait.
In Maine, out in 13 F today for 60 miles. As long as no snow or ice on roads I'm good for about 100-150 miles a week during winter. ACF50 for anti corrosion, frequent chain lube, de-icer in my pack for the ignition, battery tender and heavy covers for outside storage. I've experimented on clothing for years and have a great system now.
That sounds like a great way to keep riding in the winter!
I keep it ready to go at any time. Any day I want to ride, I'm going to ride. Good to see you out and about in this new year!
I love that attitude! You can't let the weather stop you.
I'm with you too, brother! I don't remember if I asked you before, but I have my BMW top and side case from my Preview 1250 GSA sitting in my garage. I'm selling them. If you want them, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm not too far from you. I'm in Roville Center.
Is the top box black? Condition? What size is it, and price?
@@GBeWinginIt Yes, they are black, and I barely use them. The price can accommodate it for you if you want. I don't want to sell them on eBay!
I'm with you...out of Buffalo NY I rode 700 miles from January to March last year it was great. Ride safe and in peace.
Buffalo is tough, I can imagine the cold! My daughter went to college there and experienced it daily during the winter. Stay warm.
In Eastern NC, generally put on tender once a month, ride out a tank of gas same time frame...
That sounds like a good way to keep things in tip-top shape.
I have a r1250gs and Ive ridden across the USA a few times through sandstorms , rain , etc theyre amazing bikes
I hear ya! They can handle anything you throw at them.
I love my 2021 GW Trike 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Dude you sound like a Wendy’s drive thru
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m a backpacker with hard to break habits, so I wear light comfortable stuff I can layer. Klim Marrakesh jacket and Rally airbag vest I wear year-round with LD Comfort base layer, light windstopper liner, and Warm n Safe heated liner and touring gloves. Pants are DYNS jeans over Bohn Armor “pantyhose” (my wife still points and laughs), and thermals when it’s cold. Not happy with my boots and I’m looking around.
I like the way you think about layering for different conditions.
My heated gear is a mixed bag. Hotwired jacket liner with Warn n Safe touring gloves, and the heat controller mounted on my handlebar. When I upgraded, I wanted to keep my liner because I’ve had it since 2018, so no need to spend $$ to replace it. The hotwired gloves, however didn’t last. I also like Warm n Safe’s dual (separate liner and gloves) remote rheostat knob controller I mount on my handlebars. Very easy adjust heat levels on the fly compared to the hotwired buttons. If my hotwired liner ever fails or wears out, I will replace it with a Warm n Safe liner with nothing else to buy. Normally, different brands are not compatible when mixed, but Ken Phenix in Colorado reworked the power supply on my liner, and he has great prices on Warm n Safe products.
I appreciate your insights on mixing and matching brands. It can be a real pain, but luckily for us, there are people like Ken who can help!
I have heated grips on my Triumph Tiger 800 and the wind comes up ⬆️ under the bark busters and freezes your finger tips even with high grip heat on in 30 - 40 degree weather…no fun. I just ordered this same model and look forward to trying next week. Of course now that I spent the money I expect a winter heat wave here in Virginia next week.
You are in for a treat. I expect you will have a much more comfortable ride in cold weather. And expect a heatwave😂😂
Have a road king and GL 1800. Both are fun. But Goldwing will do to HD what you did. See ya 😊
Always loved the King never owned a Harley but that’s the one to own. What year is your Roadking?
Do you feel like you can ride that Sargeant seat several hundred miles in a day with no problem?
@@leadfooty Absolutely! I’m a few thousand miles on it now and don’t even think about what’s going on down there. So it must be working.
I would think the GSA has heated grips.
It has, however the back is the hands are exposed. Hippo hands help in keeping the warmth somewhat contained but pale in comparison to the heated glove. All work wonderfully in concert.
With the brand that you have, I would replace if it is not under Warranty. Once you try to repair Heat Elements it's time to replace, just like the Old-skool Stoves back in the Days LOL.... I have the Brand 'First Gear" now called "Warm & Safe" which has a Lifetime Warranty on there product. I'm on the same gear for now over 8 Years. Always a pleasure to watch your Vlogs.
Agreed! I’d not under warranty, just replace.
I have used WarmNSafe heated gear for five years with no problems. Have the Jacket and pants liners + socks. Previously used First Gear more then 10 years. Got burned once by a Gerbing jacket liner but it was about 15 years old. Like an external controller with two channel controls mounted on the bike.
You have a lot of experience with heated gear. I appreciate your feedback.
Good topic. I’ve had my First Gear Heated gear since 2011 with no faults and it’s still going strong. When it fails I’ll replace it with another set. Lots of good brands out there so buy whatever suits you… no pun intended.
I hope mine lasts that long, but I'm not getting my hopes up! Should’ve stuck with Gerbing, only reason I stopped using it was wear and tear and for. I was 30 pounds heavier in the later 90’s when purchased. Served me well for years. Live and learn.
Guess I've been lucky so far. Had the same Hot Wired top and bottom liners since 2018 and no problems. I do think about what if they fail out on a trip but usually a Walmart isn't to far away for some extra layers until I find a Cycle Gear.
Luck of the draw. You’ve been extremely fortunate. There’s a reason only a one year warranty is offered. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Gerbing USA or Warm & Safe are getting great reviews. Repair 3x you’re out. These type under-layer products that need to fit “on the snug side” for optimal heat transfer need a deep dive into the reviews. Iron Butt, BMW Touring sites, etc. Safe miles of smiles G.
You are right about the deep dive into the reviews. There are a lot of great options out there.
I been using gerbing for almost 20 yrs and not once has it ever failed me I replaced only once and it was really only for getting improved tech and maybe I replace the gloves every 5yrs and only because they made better gloves so for me I am sticking with gerbing love their products and I'm a person who hates to he cold i have the full heated gear jacket pants gloves and even insoles and i can ride in Temps 30 degree have road in as cold as 25 degree i ride all yr around
I started out with Gerbing in the late nineties , I should have stuck with them.
I dont use heated gear. But i think anything with a 3 replacements in 5 years, record. I wojld try a different brand or find another option. Thay seems like a frequent failure rate.
I agree wholeheartedly. In the late nineties i ran a Gerbing jacket for over two decades that was heavier and bulky that i retired due to rips and tears. Now everything new is thinner, fragile and comes with a one year warranty. What a tradeoff.
Hey, great to see you recording again, G! I have never repaired heated gear. I only have heated gloves anyway, but when one went bad, I got the pair replaced under warranty. With wiring, I find when it's small wires and they break, it's time to buy a new item.
I would have saved myself two months of agony had I replaced immediately. But hey, I like to tinker.
@@GBeWinginIt In that case, I would keep the old one and tinker with it while I wear a new one on rides. I sometimes like to tinker, too, but not at the expense of riding, LOL.

I'M WORKING ON A VIDEO TODAY THAT WILL SHARE MY CURRENT ISSUE WITH HEATED GEAR. STAY TUNED.
I wish I could use these but I fear they would hit the windshield or fairing on my cruiser at full lock.
At full lock they touch my tank.
@GBeWinginIt considering that they bend and flex my concern may be without merit.
thank you for the response , it was helpful
Any time!
Time to put on those Hippo Hands.
thanks for the review , please what kind of windshield is that ? and do you recommend it for a long ride day ?
Puig and it provides some sound protection at sustained highway speeds. So yes I would recommend it, especially if you don’t have a long torso.
I just bought a 2018 DCT Honda with 3800 miles for a great price DCT because of your videos: I love the DCT (still kieeping my Victory Cross Country).
Awesome. Give it time, the more you know and adapt the better it gets.
Have fun!
My 202 miled 2023 R1250 GS Demo was not quite the complete package, until I added a BMW Nav VI, Clearwater Darla's and Billie Brake light, Touratec Stainless Steel 4 point cylinder head guards, and a year end sale on BMW Vario Side Bags, with locks for $900 additional out the door. 5.2 gallons is enough for most anything I do. 550 # for a touring bike as nice as the BMW is nice. For bigger day rides, I sold the Sport Glide and picked up a BMW 1250 RT. An absolutely beautiful Sport Touring bike.
You’ve got great taste in motorcycles.
Waiting on mine to get delivered. Thanks for the ride along!!!
@@TimDevlin-z2f Best wishes on your new motorcycle journey.
7.5 beats the 5.5 we deal with in the GW!
That would be 7.9 gallons. No complaints here.
Words from the man, the myth & legend. A reminder of all things wonderful about two wheeled travel. A beautiful moment in time captured here for posterity purposes. So that future generations will also learn & benefit from this magic.
Motorcycles are indeed food for the soul.
Show full front and backsides of yourself in the leather jacket and Levi’s or motorcycle gear at the gas pump☹️☹️☹️
Gotta give credits to the Dyna guy for taking it head on without a shield…
He was rolling for sure.
I love all motorcycles no matter the manufacturer or the style. Every time I throw my leg over a motorcycle it’s a new adventure and has become such a large part of my life. Keep up the great videos ride safe. 😊
That's a great way to live. Ride forever.
Let’s goooo!!!
This bike is so good I don’t want to Vlog aboard it. I just want to ride.
@@GBeWinginIt I heard that!
I play with HD’s on my ST1300. They typically have no chance on the acceleration if they are stock.
Boy do they sound good! Hell of a trade off for performance though.
@@GBeWinginIt It’s a matter of opinion. I get tired of loud pipes. Use to have a cruiser and they get old. Nice bikes, don’t get me wrong, but on distance work it starts to become a scratch that won’t go away. It just adds to the exhaustion. On short runs, they are fun.
Upgraded to a Sargent seat and miles better for me. The stock seat was too much like sitting on a log. Also my Bike is the most beautiful… get outta here with that not the most beautiful talk!!!!
I run a Sargent as well the order there seasons. They make a great saddle. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so says the not so attractive 😂😂
My wife can drive it and thats the only reason for the purchase
@@TimeAttack2003 glad she’s enjoying two wheeled travel.
The two wheel motorcycle is so antiquated. I will absolutely spend my money on a dct goldwing
@@TimeAttack2003 it’s sublime.
Why is you DCT people have to always challenge people still wanting a manual and call us them same age person call us like some kind of dinosaur who can't take change Just because something changes and becomes a new technology and new things around doesn't make it better or doesn't make it more importantly what suits your taste and what you want and you like I've written at the DCT I'm impressed in a sense it was cool but I hate how it feels and I hate how it sounds and I love being able to blip throttle and have fun and play and slip clutches and do different things with a manual Just like my Corvette I love my stick shift Corvette the c8 went to an automatic DCT I will never ever buy that car and I have zero interest in it it might as well be a Malibu or something or a just some regular sedan it's boring so enjoy your DCT and ignore the manual people cuz we're not thinking about you
That’s a fair assessment. For the record I’m back on a manual ands loving it. I enjoyed my time on a DCT and would consider another down the road. Thanks for watching and commenting.
