FO4 survival is absolutely amazing… WITH MODS.

I never understood why the institute had to be destroyed. It would make more sense to conquer it and use the scientists and equipment there.

After playing Survival mode (which I absolutely love) playing on the other difficulties feels so much less satisfying, accomplishments feel less. I don't use save mods either for that reason, it gives that same feeling.

The game still isnt hard on Survival. Only part I found tough was taking out all the Raiders in Nuka. And some of the tankier enemies in Far Harbor. Need mods to reduce the tank enemies, resources, and cell respawns to make it harder. Also the spesd in which you level. Hope the next game expamds Survival.

I played a bit of survival mode yesterday for the first time. My first death was accidentally killed myself with a molotov trying to throw it through a doorway.

This was a brilliant take on a difficulty I have only touched here and there and has inspired me to give Survival another go. Well done. Earned a sub from me.

You make convincing arguments however I just love being a pack rat and mods, thus no save and no fast travel are prohibiting for me. This is a Bethesda game after all and the number of times the game has crashed just because I am walking is staggering. I'll probably look for a modlist for survival and do a BoS playthrough. After 700+ hours I still have never finished this game

My number one thing against survival mode is how often the game crashes for no reason (I have zero mods and play with all updates). At least once every session I’m thrown out of the game due to unexpected error losing my progress. Therefore I need to quick save often. I want to try out survival mode but I don’t think I’d enjoy it due to this reason. One thing is if you die because of yourself, it’s another when it’s due to poor programming.

I just have discovered the fun of survival mode on fall out after owning the game for years 😂 i am looking forward to this searies

the survival mode changes this into a completely different game my first play through the world felt empty lifeless just checking checking off missions the mechanics get changed a bit then boom you have the best survival game ever made makes it feel super intense doing anything because there is high level risk makes some fights super terifying and stressfull its so intense and fun thank you for making this video you worded everything and explained it for everyone so well this is probably the best game ever made now because of this mode its so much fun dude

Came back to this game. My last recorded play time was back in 2016. I installed a mod where you can fast travel to any settlement you own. Makes my game a lot enjoyable. I still im pose rules on myself not to use gast travel a lot but when your settlements get attacked, i can actually go and help them.

Although you can technically avoid the mechanist enemies spawning by avoiding the initial fight, you really have to be careful about getting to close to that intersection, especially in survival when you have to walk everywhere. If the area loads in and the fight starts, rust devils will start spawning. In my game I didn't even notice that I'd triggered the fight. Just started seeing rust devils one day well before I wanted to.

Ok but why does being thirst lowers luck? That makes no sense at all 😭

Get Sneak 3 before you go downtown exploring passed Diamond City. If you don't, you will step on a landmine or floor trap and die every 20 minutes.

I guess if you play on survival mode you don’t bother with settlements. I don’t see how you could get to them in time to help with raider attacks if you have to walk. I sometimes end up arriving at the end of a fight and fail the quest to assist even with fast travel! I really think it depends on what “floats your boat”! If you want to test how tough you are against the npcs, rads and bugs survival mode is your thing. However, if you are driven by exploration and storytelling the standard playthrough is probably a better choice. You may as well suggest that removing the VATS system would be more realistic and I would agree but I doubt Id ever play Fallout that way, combat would just be too slow for my liking. The great thing about games like Fallout is that we are given a choice, many good games don’t. Accepting that players have different motivations and offering choice is the sign of a great publisher in my view.

I've been following (and enjoying) this series since your fallout 4 video essay. You made a really compelling case for survival mode and I decided to start my own game. Now at level 50 in survival. Looking forward to the next video!

Hey my guy, you said fo4 video essay is what brings traffic to your channel. I think that’s how I found you also. Was recently in a Facebook discussion about what is the cannon ending without the sole survivor. I say it would be institute. Minutemen lose in concord, BoS in Cambridge and RR are snuffed out by institute. Institute still gets their reactor running but the comment section was full of people sharing why this was wrong or right. Didn’t know if this was up your alley for discussion video essay

I basically finished the game on the older survival mode, it was tons of fun. The slow healing on stimpaks was cool. Playing the dlc on new survival was a bit jarring, especially because that Island in the south was my main home & I had to walk in power armor or swim across the water to get back & forth until i built a vertibird pad there

You did a fantastic job of summarizing why survival mode makes the whole game feel complete. I tell anyone who is nervous about starting it that once you get the hang of it anything less then survival feels like it’s just not the same game.

Love the video fallout 4 is one of my favorites.

Playing on survival in VR is wild. I’m playing as a sniper with a hunting rifle, but I have a sawed-off in my back pocket that I’ll line up in VATS and blow heads off like crazy. VATS functions like bullet time in VR, but it also lets you move in VATS. You can either use AP to dodge an attack or use it to blow someone’s head off. It’s so fucking awesome.
