Not to shabby..Good Job.
One of the most dangerous wiring I’ve ever seen.
Where are you? Lol I noticed the ofah sticker. I'd love to do some motor mods this winter
Where can i get this.. everywhere is sold out and not sure if its made anymore or out of business..
Where did you get the split ring hangers used for the steering attachments on the motor shaft? Can't find them anywhere...
Got them at home Depot. But now I have trouble finding them as well. My buddy just simply took a about a 8-in long stainless steel screw. Put it right through the shaft, bolted it on and then put rings on the end. It does the same thing so you know being innovative.
Excellent video.
Thanks
@@jacolville5127 thanks for the great ideas
Hi, its Dean met you today at canadian tire, love you're idea.
that was a great solution for mounting the transducer!
By using the 1 in by 1-in Hollow aluminum tubes and bolted together, it's solid as a rock.
Sorry about that last comment, I thought you were talking about the transom not the transducer . I've tried it. It works really well and it seems quite well protected
Hey Tony: That'll rack up the views. Thorough yet still easy to follow. (Never seen that kind of goop before; good choice).
That goop is called water. Weld, JB water weld and it's incredible
Best trolling for the catch 120 I've seen so far. I'm going to do the same with mine. Thank you.
Awesome set up 👍👍
I’ve tried finding These switches are no longer being made no body in the world has them
This company WaterBlade seems to have gone out of business.
where can i buy this switch from
Awesome setup!
Looks like mechanical kill switch. Salt water might close the circle after polling the cord and then motor will not stop. Did you try it wet with salt water?? Good video
Good point on the salt water, and freshwater and I never thought about that.
What did you use to get the eye bolts on the shaft of the motor.
Dude your awesome. Inspiring. Ty. Will be attempting my own build this year with your guidelines on what you figured out. Ty again.
Do you have a video of how you constructed your control box?
Sorry I don't have a video on that. Get a closed plastic electrical box from home Depot, the control unit on a trolling motor is just a small little motor ,you'll see you can drill a hole for the control knob drill another hole to get the wires to exit the box.. I used waterweld to hold the control unit up against the top of the control box and I plugged the hole where the wires come out again with waterweld. What's that waterweld Hardened it's going to take dynamite to get it off. Simply take pictures of all the wires on the control unit when you take your trolling motor control unit apart. That way you can simply reconstruct it and seal it inside the electrical control box. One thing I did was take a 60 lb magnet and I screwed it glued onto the bottom of the box and then I put a metal plate on the kayak so it's on,it doesn't fall. I hope that helps, it's actually very easy and on the electrical box if you screw they are a bout 5 oR 6 bucks buy another one and start again. Good luck
Great job! Thanks for sharing.
What type of wire did you use to extend the trolling motor control
Good question that, what I did was look for a heavy-duty extension cord because I needed something that could take the amps. That I cut it up sacrifice to Corydon did the extension
My voice recognition isn't working too well, I said then I cut it and used it
@@SidZork01 awesome my trolling motor has 4 wires not including the ones to go to the battery how would I splice those to a extension cord?
@@SidZork01 is there any way you can show me a step by step on how you put it together
@@johnmcneal2411 use two extension cords
A very smart design! Yet incredibly simple. I saved this video in case I do want to convert to power someday.
I use both motor and paddles. But the motor sure gets you where you want to go in a hurry
Nice job.
which cables did you use to lengthen the cables?
I'm not sure exactly what I where I got it but I think I simply used an electrical cord there is heavy duty light duty etc right so you get something that's going to handle the amperage
Amazing. Well done sir! You made me want to upgrade to the Catch and try to replicate your build ! ... I'm jealous
Go for it, it's actually not that hard to do, just one step at a time.
Thanks. se123 definition of boat is "a hole in the water into which you pour time and money."
Simple but it will work thanks
Great video very informative. Thank you
Nice job on the transom design! I'm going to get my son a Catch 100 so finding your design comes at a great time. May I ask where you sourced the aluminum tubing? Thanks in advance!
Home depot and or Lowe's, 1" by 1" hollow square tube
I have the same kayak those are some great ideas and an awesome video thanks for sharing!
Iv looked everywhere for a carabiner like the one for your tilt want to use for R+L hand pull controls I don’t have foot rests on my PWR 100 you remember were or what you got them. Thanks again👍🏻🍻
Pretty sure I got it at home Depot, I hope that helps
Great Rigging wen you mention smaller battery is it a lawn and garden type?
You need a Lithium-Ion battery, Life-Po4 . I have a 100 amp hour battery and I can go for 8 hours lol, and 80 amp power would probably be five six hours
Great video! Try building a pwm speed controller, it is much more efficient and will save you battery.
We'll have to look into that. With the lithium-ion battery I can go all day long right now so I don't run out of juice.
I think I have a project for the winter
I agree. Did the pwm for under $30. Less wires. I got a harbor freight deep cycle 35 ah. I can go 3 hours (all my back and butt can take ), no paddling (ugh) and battery barely drops below 100%. Best upgrade I did..
Those "clips" and "gizmos" are called pad eyes or rigging loops ;)
I don't go bass fishing 😅 Better not ever see them in my area either
Great Idea for the Transom design. I have a Pamlico Wilderness, that used to come with an OPTION to get a Motor with a VERY simiar FOOT steer and speed control and cost about $1600 with the motor, back in the 90s. I have a Pamilico know and am going to use your Transom design and reset this one up. Great Fishing machine to be able to get wherever you need....even in Strong Currents.
this is a lot less than $1600, and you can do 4 mph on the lake, so , not too shabby
You Little Genius You!
LOL
great work ....could you give the distance between the top and middle cross member or the length of the vertical piece above the middle cross member Thanks
Sub'd just for your ingenuity! I'm about to get my first kayak for my future rockhounding adventures. Definitely going to use a trolling motor. Have you ever considered hooking up a small solar panel to yours? I plan to use a 50 watt flexible panel that is currently on my van with the kayak motor & battery.
I have used the lithium iron battery a few times now and I absolutely love it. How to charge I just plug it into the house so I can't really tell you about a solar panel
Bat Tree that’s hilarious!
Love the simplicity of it all. I just bought the Catch 120 last fall, then almost immediately injured my hand, so I've only had it on the water a couple of times. Looking forward to trying some fishing from it this year! I think a trolling motor would be a great upgrade.
just 1 question, I dont think you mentioned, is this 1" Square tubing aluminum, or is it 1" solid stock aluminum,
It is tubing, it's Hollow and it's plenty strong. I have a 30-30 Minn Kota but if I were to do it again I might upgrade to a little stronger motor.
well done i have this kayak and i was looking to spend with new motor and all around like $300 to do another project i was looking at. you sir, are a legend, this is definitely the best way to do it, leaving everything fully intact as well, enabling disassembly in case you ever wanted to take it off, this is perfect, i work in a sheet metal shop for the air force and i have access to every tool imaginable, and i can easily make this, i just needed a better idea, thank you for uploading this, and thank you for taking the time to figure this out. what a legend. well done
Well I had to give a thumbs up to your comment, LOL. But seriously I'm so happy to hear how people are turning their kayaks into motorized kayaks it's great. Had my note for the first time this year yesterday, I'm up in Canada so the ice is just off the water. But with a Lithium-Ion battery,. man is this thing sweet. I'd say good luck for doing yours but I'm sure you don't need that.
Could you please send me measurements? thanks
I sent the measurements to someone on this site already, I don't know where, but just take the pipe, line it up on the kayak and cut it accordingly that's exactly how I did it.
*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*
I already asked you a few questions about this setup and now I'm at the point where I'm going to set mine up like yours. I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR SETUP and I have the exact kayak. one last question what did you use for the wedges to go into the handle so perfectly? Just the same 1×1 tube cut to fit? I figured if I asked I could save me some time.
yes, I took the same 1"x1" Al tube, about 3-4 long. Used a jig saw, cut it diagonally, from one corner to the other. End up with 2 wedges. Then just drilled small hole on the inside of each wedge and screwed it onto the main transom support. Put the transom into the handle, put it where I wanted it to be, with the locking screw at the front and from that put in the two wedges. Use a marker to get the exact spot, take it out and screw them in. Put electrical take to reduce the risk of sharp edges on the wedge once all done.
@@TonyBrunelle1 AWESOME Thanks again!!
Ingenious…Wallace and Gromit don’t have anything on you…
Lol
Impressive set up! Are you using lithium batteries? what kind exactly are you using? Thx mate
@@SidZork01 Yeah those heavy batteries get annoying very fast. I’m currently looking for a lithium battery hundred amp. Which brand did you get? Thx mate
@@SidZork01 i think most lithium batteries are made in china anyway.
@@allans7281 check out Dakota Lithium batteries... twice the power, half the weight and 11 year battery warranty!
how did you registered it .not that you instslled the trolling motor?
if motor is under 10 hp, not needed in Canada
